I believe what they meant was the pressure compromised the hull. "Journalists" tend to be very poorly educated especially when it comes to things like science or engineering. That is half of the reason modern "journalism" is so bad.

The woke billionaire owner said he didn't want white employees in order to fight mythical "white supremacy". So he got second or third tier affirmative action hires instead and this is the result.
When will these leftists learn meritocracy is a very good thing?

If it imploded, know that there's about 6,000 psi of pressure down there. Their bodies would've been vaporized before their synapses even knew what was up. Realistically that's the best way to go, if you're going to die down there.

Apparently the glass in that small window wasnt designed for pressure in 4000 meters.
And the CEO was aware of that.
The submarine made a couple of successful trips to the Titanic and I´m thinking the sub got worn down during those trips.

Apparently carbon fiber will fatigue with repeated use. So I'll bet either the carbon fiber failed, or the viewing window failed. I guess the end result is the same either way.
Best case scenario - The hull ruptured on the initial dive killing everyone instantly.
Worst case scenario - They lost power, drifted to the bottom and sat there until it finally imploded days later.
Guess we'll never know.

The US Navy's acoustical detection system recorded what they believe to be it imploding right around the time communications were lost.

Irony: wealthy people going on a sub that ignored safety standards to see a ship with lots of wealthy people aboard that ignored safety standards and sank.
Wow. So the U.S. Navy knew that the mini sub imploded and sank last Sunday based upon its under water listening network but the Biden admin refused to release that I fo and kept the story in the headlines intentionally. Why, you might ask? Well Monday-Weds Congress was having public hearings about whistle blowers in the FBI about Biden political appointees knowingly and illegally hindering the investigations into Hunter Biden's crimes and Joe Biden's bribery case. The Biden admin literally wanted to distract people from Biden corruption and weaponizing official government agencies and legal actions so they just made sure a competing story stayed on the news.

The Navy did tell search and rescue that once the sub was reported missing, and they had a chance to listen to their acoustic defense system recording from earlier in the day, but I guess although it was most likely the sub imploding, that can never be 100% confirmed until they actually find the sub, or what's left of it. Search & Rescue guys would keep searching as long as the sub still had a supply of oxygen at the very least, then they no doubt would've scaled back.
Perhaps another reason is that acoustic defense system is supposed to be top secret. I guess the Navy doesn't want others to know too much about its capabilities.
Here is what a wise man has to say about the sunk sub.

Watch the video again. Seems like she was the "replacement for the fifty year old white guys" who previously piloted the sub and the CEO was "just along for the ride".

We know who died on that sub. I don't have to watch a video. There were no females on board.
Stockton Rush (61 year old White guy) was the pilot of that sub, and was also the owner of Oceangate.
The other employee on board was Paul-Henri Nargeolet (77 year old White guy), who was the 'tour guide' on that trip, and capable of piloting it also.
And then the three passengers, who were all male also.
I'm not sure why I have to explain this, when it takes 30 seconds of Google to realize that females or diversity hires had nothing to do with this...
Ahhh, my bad. Of course the evidence of my own lying eyes deceives yet again, the bubbly vivacious bubblehead employee sharing video of the final descent of the sub was identifying as a 60 year old white male and the CEO simply hadn't got around to firing zim/zir yet.
Jewgle to the rescue, no diversity hires were present, pip pip.

The submarine had a carbon fiber tube with titanium rings embedded to both ends.
Now... What if the titanium starts to expand or shrink at a faster rate than the carbon fiber...
That would eventually break the titanium ring loose.

I think the real issue here is that carbon fiber doesn't really handle cycling fatigue well. That explains why the sub handled a few trips down in the past before imploding.

A leaked communication transcript has surfaced... Unconfirmed.
Apparently they were descending at an alarming rate.
They were supposed to be at 1900 meters but were at 2900 meters...
The "RTM" Aka real-time-monitoring system that is monitoring the hull integrity, started to go red 20 minutes before the implosion.
The crew reported crackling sounds from the aft.
Stockton Rush was trying to do an emergency surfacing but the submarine was ascending very slowly.
The part where the submarine was diving too fast... IF they had went down at a normal speed, the RTM would have alarmed them before they reached a critical depth.

I don't buy the leaked comms.
If that really was the case, the support vessel would've initiated search & rescue protocols immediately, instead of waiting the nine hours or so for the sub to return from it's normal dive before doing so.

Its probably fake.
But they may have wanted to be sure before they called in the coast guard.
They couldnt do anything since they lacked a 2nd submersible.
