I could have been 5 years sober on July 20th.
I got drunk on July 20 2009 for the umpteenth time, and woke up July 21 2009 feeling sick of the hangovers, and decided it was time to go to AA. So I went to my first meeting on July 25 2009. I wish I had stuck around, but I didn't. Instead I tried to do it on my own, then eventually relapsed in May 2011, then came into AA June 2011, but the damage had been done: I couldn't stop relapsing once every few months, especially with the incentive of the 24 hour, 1 month, 2 month, and 3 month chips. As of now I am about 2 months sober.

Don' give up just because you occasionally relapse RDL.

I have been a heroin addict for over thirty years and I have tried to quit everyday. As the poet Roland Romaine exclaimed, " I am but a sponge to the vices of the earth and I am indeed poisoned." I once went 32 days without drugs, it was the biggest victory of my life.
