Palestinian Islamist group Hamas launched the biggest attack on Israel in years on Saturday, killing dozens of people and taking hostages in a surprise assault that combined gunmen crossing into Israel with a barrage of rockets fired from the Gaza Strip.
Israel said the Iran-backed group had declared war as its army confirmed fighting with militants in several Israeli towns and military bases near Gaza, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to retaliate.
Israel's N12 News reported that at least 100 Israelis were killed. A Reuters photographer saw multiple bodies lying in streets of the southern town of Sderot.
The Israeli military said it had responded with air strikes into Gaza, where witnesses reported hearing heavy explosions and multiple dead and wounded being carried into hospitals. The Israeli military said navy forces killed dozens of Palestinian militants trying to infiltrate Israel by sea.

A number of rockets were fired at Israeli territory from Lebanon this morning (Sunday), in a possible sign that the Hezbollah terrorist organization is joining the war started yesterday by Hamas in Gaza.
Residents of the north reported hearing explosions from the rockets in the Mount Dov area. The IDF responded to the attack with artillery strikes.
"The IDF has been taking preparational measures for this type of possibility and will continue to operate in all regions and at any time necessary to ensure the safety of the Israeli civilians," the military said.
The Hamas and Hezbollah terrorist organizations are both financed and armed by Iran, which seeks the complete annihilation of the State of Israel and is supporting the Hamas assault. This shared connection to Iran has led to speculation that Hezbollah could join the fighting to create a second front against Israel.
Hezbollah possesses a greater number of rockets than Hamas as well as more advanced rockets capable of hitting anywhere in the State of Israel with accuracy.

but at the same time I don't believe that is the Israelis land. God abandoned them long ago and just because there are passages in the old testament which refer to the area as their promised land doesn't mean they have a God given right to be there today. They lost that right when they murdered his son.
But they are there, and despite being the initial aggressors they have the right to defend themselves and thus, if they entered Gaza tomorrow and completely took over I'd understand where they are coming from no matter how many causalities they incurred on the way in.

In an alarming development, the Yemeni Armed Forces have officially declared war on Israel.
Brigadier General Yahya Saree, the spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces and also the spokesperson for Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, announced that they have launched massive military strikes against Israeli targets in the "occupied territories."
In response to the missile strikes, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have been on high alert. They reported the successful interception of a surface-to-surface missile in the vicinity of the Red Sea.
"The [Israeli Air Force] intercepted a surface-to-surface missile in the area of the Red Sea. This is the first operational interception by the Arrow Aerial Defense System since the beginning of the war.
