Title: One of the Dumbest Things I Have EVER Read Online
Post by: TheProwler on March 07, 2024, 12:29:16 AM
Quote from: TheProwler on March 06, 2024, 12:58:11 AMWell that is a stupid opinion.

In a casino, the odds are against you.

In the stock market, the odds are for you.

Quote from: JOE on March 06, 2024, 07:44:28 AM.....both run on the same principle that there are more losers than winners.

Just like the casino that's why the stock markets remain in business.

They have to because if everybody won all of the time and made money their handlers wouldn't win.

Senile J is supposed to be a grown man who has at least a basic understanding of investing.

What an idiot!

That is indeed one of the dumbest things I have EVER read online. It is hard to believe an old man could be so ignorant of investing.

...and yet...investing is not saving, formosan/fashionista.

Shouldn't conflate the two.

I know it may be an 'innocent mistake' on your part, but it is also a misconception tho.

While there is a guarantee that your 'savings' in the bank will generate interest and be worth more in a year, this is not necessarily the case with your 'investments'.

They could be worth less in a year.

And while I'm certainly not a professional investor, I take tips from those who are. Altho nobody truly knows where the markets will be in a year, there are warning signs that this is not the time to enter the market or invest.

But that's just my take. I don't profess to be correct in my projections. But I base them on the probability of certain events unfolding and information imparted by those far more experienced, knowledgable than myself with the wisdowm THEY acquired through years of experience, trial and error.

I could jump in to invest, but I'd rather not at the moment given the conditions of the current market.

Why risk $25,000, $50,000 or $100,000 in a market with shaky fundamentals? I'd rather wait untll there is a clearer picture and the dust has settled.

First of all, you are trying to ignore the fact that your understanding of the stock markets is just
fucking stupid and wrong.

Secondly, "shaky fundamentals"?!?!?  The TSX????

What are you talking about?

They are established companies with PE ratios under 10 and dividend yields over 7%.

You have been exposed, Senile J.

You do not even understand the basics.

You dumb cunt.

Prowler this is one of the dumbest things I have ever read on line, investing is not saving. Guess who wrote it.

Here is the S&P since 1928-2021. Saving without investing is not saving at all. It's throwing money away because of inflation.

And what those charts do not show you is dividend income.

If a stock just keeps its value, but pays a good dividend, that chart would be flat, but there would have been dividend income.

Could you imagine being as stupid as Senile J, and trying to figure this stuff out?  That dumb cunt does not understand that companies make profits and those profits go to shareholders.

I don't know if you know this trick but if you go to a casino's roulette table and it lands on black twice, there's an almost 100% chance (way higher than 50%) that it will land on red.  So if you're considering retirement, have a big pay out, tax return, whatever you can just put all of your money on red after it hits black twice and you're guaranteed to get a fatass payout.

Everybody knows this.

Other people invest in stock markets, must be nice enjoy your single digit percent growth while real OGs double their money time and time again.

I'm certainly no financial expert Herman nor do I pretend to be.

But having read the news reports & financial news, I have a gut feeling that there will be a shakeout Herman.

This time feels like just before the dot com bust in 2000 or prior to the 2008 financial crisis.

There is no scientific nor factual basis to my assumptions just a gut feeling, that's all. May not happen right away or even this year. But 2025 could get rockey. Even Ollie somewhat agreed with me on this assessment.

PLUS the powers that be are using all sorts of crazy financial instruments to use or move around the debt, just like they were before 2008. They seem to be covering up and spreading fals information in attempt to calm investors and the masses. I remember in 2007 how they were pushin' derivatives on us - telling us "Don't worry! It's a great time to Invest."

As the Father of George W Bush once said, It's 'Voodoo Economics".

You may not agree with me & you're entitled to your opinion, but that's jes' the way I see it avatar_Herman.

Maybe avatar_DKG can weigh in on the current economic situation?

I'd like to invest if the markets have a correction Prowler.

Seems foolish to invest a considerable wad of cash right now if the markets are close to peaking.

Personally, it's just my view that when the markets experience a frenzy of buying while the economic fundamentals are weak, the traders are actually panicking.

It's like- "I pass the hot potato off to the other guy cuz it's too hot to hold, so he gets it when i pass it off to him. And the next guy does it cuz hes also in panic mode. And the process keeps repeating itself till someone finally drops it, and then it crashes."

Seems to be like that before every crash or major correction

That's where I see the stock market going these days.

But maybe avatar_DKG can weigh in with an opinion of his own?

From what I seen of those Meltdown threads at BF, you seem to be getting the worst of it T

I almost feel sorry for you seeing you get picked apart like that.

However, you've made a lotta enemies over there and now your schtick is wearing thin. Everybody hates you over there.

You need a new act or come back in the next world as a different person. That way you'll get a new handle to use on these forums.

The TSX composite is up 3.18% over the last month.

7.70% over the last 6 months.

10.97% over the last year.

Now tack on the dividends.

But here is the thing, Senile J.

I have been in the markets for decades.

I do not have to worry about short term blips.  Sure, I am sitting on about 60K in cash right now, waiting for a buying opportunity (it was 80K, but I invested $20K recently).  But I do not have to worry about making big moves.

Come to think of it, I probably have about $70K for buying right now because of recent dividends.

But this is just standard stuff.  I have to make buying decisions ongoing because I am making more money than I am spending.

I also own my house which is worth about $1.2 million in the current market.

I also own two plots of land that are worth a bit (not really much because they are in pretty remote areas).

I also own....rough estimate....$500K in assets like cars, guitars, and everything around the house.

This is the position you should be in at your advanced age.

And to be very clear, Retard Joe, this is not bragging.  This is just stating facts.  This is just how it is.  Wealth is not a major concern of mine.  Many of my friends have way more wealth than me.  I would not have quit my job in 2003 if I was worried about being rich because I made a lot of money.  I actually said to my wife just a few days ago "Imagine if I worked at *** for 15 more years instead of quitting.  Imagine how rich we would be." and she replied "Imagine how rich we would be if you just stayed 5 more years!"

And this is another thing:  A lot of people are happy living a very "low cost" life.  And I have no problem with that.  What the fuck do I care if they are not hurting anyone?

But you, Senile Joe, you are different.  You are obsessed with finances.  You talk about it all the time.  You praise these boring fucktards in your videos who talk about investing like they have everything solved.

You idolize them.

You would kiss their feet if you could.

You would kiss their asses.

You are pathetic.

Another Truth Bomb, you retard:  Most of those goofs int eh videos that you call experts simply took big chances and were lucky enough to do well.  For every one of them, there are a hundred who took big chances and lost everything.  You might as well praise someone who won the lottery if you are going to praise them.

I prefer my approach to the High Risk/High Reward or Lose Everything approach.  That is why I did it the way I did it.

What did you do, Retard Joe?  Nothing.  You did nothing.  You had no money until your mom gave you an inheritance.  You were poor until recently because you did nothing on your own.

And now what are you doing?  Still living in the same shitty apartment.  Still creeping on the same cashier girl at the grocery store.

Your life is almost over (BTW, that picture of your hands do not lie - you are old and sickly) and you are still unable to find pleasure.

No wife.

No girlfriend.

Alone.

Dumb.

Sad.

So, any big plans this week?

You dumb cunt.

If you're such a 1%er, why do you waste your time in these forums T ? And why do you compare yourself to me? You keep saying I'm too old so I'm not your contemporary. I'm of a different generation and my values are vastly different.

You ought to be comparing yourself with Oerdin or Biggie Smiles. Same age, similar interests.

But you dont because you don't measure up to either. You know you can't. They live in nice   homes, better climates, lead happier lives, are smarter, have more money than you & have a higher social standing. They are your real competition and yet you never want to compare yourself to them.

How come, Prowler? You're always obsessed with keeping up with the Joneses but in reality they dont care about you and your nondescript life.

And you pick fights with middle aged moms at BF. What kind of man are you? That seems like a waste of time from a retired old dart who has too much time on his hands.

BtW You have a mouth fit for a sewer. I expect better from a 55 year old man who claims hes made it & then acts like a sniveling teenage brat.

To make you feel inadequate and ashamed.

I have no problem comparing myself to anyone.

But I ought to do what I feel like doing, Senile J

And I feel like taking a dump on your forehead, so that is what I am doing.

Do you have any proof?

I have zero interest in "Keeping up with the Jones."

You are lost, Senile J.

I live my life without worrying about that shit.

It is too bad you cannot do the same....especially given your shitty situation.

They should know that...so I educate them.

Back on topic, here's something that might interest avatar_DKG al tho I'm sure he's more than well aware of it:

https://www.gurufocus.com/shiller-PE.php

The Shiller Index.

Right now, it's at 35 which is considered rather high.

Any higher than that, and it's close to its record, after which it tumbled quite a bit.

I believe a more stable level is 15-20? 22?

So if a person is waiting for a dip in the markets, the higher it goes the better cuz the graph indicates that it inevitably falls when the markets drop again.

So...I suppose if a person is waiting for a major correction, if the Index shoots way past its previous record, all the better, eh avatar_DKG ?

That is not for the TSX, you fuckin' moron.

The PE Ratio for the TSX Composite is 20.1

You must have shit for brains.

Quote from: Bradley on March 09, 2024, 03:34:10 PMI don't know if you know this trick but if you go to a casino's roulette table and it lands on black twice, there's an almost 100% chance (way higher than 50%) that it will land on red.

No there isn't. The odds are exactly the same for every spin of the wheel. Previous results have no influence.
