Title: Canada Day 2024-Are You Still Proud Of What Your Country Has Become?
Post by: Shen Li on June 30, 2024, 12:41:59 PM
I arrived yesterday for a two and a half week stay. After living in a rich country with transparent government and equal application of the law, Canada seems so third worldish to me.

There is litter, graffiti, drug use, and homelessness everywhere. The mass transit systems in urban centres look like travelling homeless shelters. People live in fear of crime. Most Canadians are 1 or 2 paycheques away from being unhoused. There is little opportunity and hope for younger Canadians to have better living standards than their parents.

Then there is the slippery slope towards authoritarianism that True Dope has put this country on. I never thought when we immigrated to Canada that something like C-59 would pass, but it did. That is Nicholas Maduro type legislation.

So Canadians, your country is a lot less prosperous that it was just a decade ago. It is a lot less free than it was just a decade ago. Are you still patriotic? Why?

Thanks Dude. Just so you know, I never hated you because you were cheering for the Panthers.

I troll about being really vicious, but anybody here will tell you in reality, I'm sweeter than fucking sugar. Even that cunt Lokmar will agree. If he doesn't, I'll sit on his face.

We are not going to any fireworks. I am not celebrating that a bus shelter near our house has people living in it. And we live in a neighbourhood where most homes are owner occupied.

I am retired. I want to leave Canada now. My wife likes her job, so we are staying for now.

Dont come to America unless you believe everyone should have an AR-15. We dont need any more "no guns of war!" shit here.

I live in the States. But, I was born, raised, and spent almost all my life in Canada.

Nobody can seriously deny that Canada has changed for the worse. Much worse in fact.

The States must be a violent place where you live avatar_Prof Emeritus at Fawk U

Actually I'm not entirely against guns.

It just depends where you live.

I met somebody from mexico who said he kept a sawed off shotgun in his home and actually had to use it when they broke in through his roof.

So it really just depends where you live, eh?

Where I live in Canada, there's no need as gun incidents are rare, and there seem to be police on every block. I live in a tourist area of town so of course the city wants to keep it nice 'n safe for you American tourists.

Canada to me means my family, my home, my friends, my church where I fellowship, it's where I study, and where I work..

I don't want to think about the negative things I can't do anything about like the our political situation that I admot causes harm to the middle class..

I hope to attend Canada Day festivities tomorrow near our house for cake and refreshments.......happy Canada day everyone.

Many others have said the same of the USA as well avatar_Shen Li Shen .

I see all these videos with a step to step guide how to flee the USA (and Canada too).

But rather than ditch my own country, I'd be more inclined to keep my home citizenship & get a 2nd or establish another permanent residence elsewhere. In that regard, Singapore wouldn't be bad for that purpose.

But keep in mind...something can go wrong on the other side of the world too. Wars. Famines. Pandemics. Coups. Social upheaval. They may look good now. But who knows what their situation will be in 5,10, 15 years from now? Why do you think so many Chinese, Iranians and others come to Canada and stay here despite the high taxes?

Yeah I remember how people were saying Ukraine was the place to go until Russia invaded it. Now they're saying - go ta Georgia! it's next door and they're doing great? But what if they get invaded too?

Americans are wealthier and freer than Canadians. About twelve years ago it was reverse. The wealthiest province in Canada is Alberta. But it would be middle of the pack compared to American states.

This was written by Andre Coyne. It is more than a bit rich coming from Andrew Coyne who for years has been an advocate of mass cheap labour immigration that suppresses wages and shields corporations from having to make investments that would boost productivity. All the major Canadian political parties are stooges of corporations and support this knowing that it makes Canadians poor.

Canada is no longer one of the richest nations on Earth. Country after country is passing us by

We should demand the federal parties stop this corporate pandering. It is detrimental to the economy to bring in temporary foreign workers who undercut domestic wages, who don't invest in the country beyond basic sustenance, and who take their earnings home once they leave. Sounds like a win for corporate and their NDP, Liberal, and Conservative stooges.

Yes I agree with you avatar_Brent Brent.

The Trudeau government has let in way too many immigrants.

Abd if they get tossed out next time there should be a moratorium on accepting any more till they can at least absorb the batch Trudeau & Singh let in.

Tell you the truth I dont mind if the Tories get in if they do the right thing and govern in a small c conservative agenda. And they are honest. Cut the expendutures the debt & drastically lower immigration quotas for the time being.

I can see some one time exceptions for mass immigration such as the Ukraine War but not all the time. BTW i noticed in Vancouver there arent just Ukrainians escaping that War but Russians too.

Many Russians who were opposed to that War and are immigrating elsewhere incl Canada. And theyre top flight educated cream of the crop if Russian society too.

That I found rather amazing. And he told me a big reason was Trump.

Amazing too he was a White Guy who spoke American English

So with his White privilege and wealth he still  house to live in Canada because he was so scared of Trump.

His wife is white too.

Health care back in Singapore is soooooooo much better than in Canada. Excellent care, cheap and accessible at any time. Puts Canada's failing health care to shame.

I'm surprised, that's all.

He left his life of privilege to live in a less prosperous, less hospitable climate from one of the World's Oases. A weaker dollar and lower tax benefits.

I mean, to move from California to subzero Montreal I find incredulous.

But he didn't want his Kid to grow up in America anymore.

Not my story. Didn't make it up.
Actually I chauffeured him when I was a limo driver for a convention and we were chatting.

But why can't you avatar_Herman Herm?

I mean, you don't have to live in Saskatchewan all year round.
You could live pt there pt somewhere else.
Even for a couple of months or even weeks f the year - like timeshare.
It's what a lot of retirees do where you live don't they?
I hear there are all these summer only retirement communities in places like Northern Sask and Ontario. But then they move somewhere else during the winter mos.

That's what I'm lookin to do.

Live in 2 places at once.
Get the best of both worlds.
Keep your Canadian citizenship, the medical benefits, but enjoy the luxury of some foreign locale.

Nothin' wrong with that.

But I don't think I'd want to live in a place like Singapore all year round. It must get bloody hot in the summer.

Singapore might be a place to visit or stay for a couple of months per year, then come back to Canada for 4 or 6 whatever it takes to retain yer benefits.

It's funny you should mention that. I have had more colds in Singpaore than I would get in 5 years in Canada. Every building has AC on full blast all the time. Going from cool air to extreme heat and humidity all the time isn't healthy. Now we use fans during the day and only use AC at night.

And then he knocked up some Filipina woman he met on some Internet dating site and had a daughter by her at age 62. After which he squandered a $100,000+ inheritance on her, whores and alcohol and gradually slid into the welfare rolls.

His health steadily went downhill and he would he wound up in a hospital, his expenses paid by our universal healthcare system courtesy of the Canadian taxpayer.

I think his friend told me he ended up getting a tracheotomy.
His End was brutal, Lokmar.

And then he died, choking on his own vomit at age 67.

This is not a made up story. But obviously for the sake of his family and their privacy, I won't release his name, who he was etc.

I guess the AirCon carries all those germs and deposits them through the ducts. Many of them aren't clean nor cleaned on a regular basis. and of course the air and bacteria circulates through the ducts inside the building from the top to bottom floors.

So that's probably why a lotta people got sick in those offices during the pandemic and it was a wise move to stay away from the office and do their work at home.

It's not bad during the Spring, Summer and bit of the Fall, but it'd be. nice ta git away from here from November to March or so.

I don't see what the point is in living in one place all year round.

After I Get the pension, I'll be takin' off during the Winters.

A person doesn't really need that much in some locales.

Just get a cheap room by the beach, sleep in every day.

That'd be a good life fer a couch potato like me, hey Herm?

It's not even that expensive to live in places like Hawaii as long as a person finds cheap accommodation and lives on a budget.
