I'm done shopping unless I just have to get something else.

I might wrap stuff this weekend, not sure yet. :)

Most everything I got was from online so it was easy except gift ideas.

I hope the tree is pretty there :) I only have a small one in a bucket already decorated  ac_dance

Yeah, I got some cool toys for my son. I was going to buy my husband a restored 1970 Dodge Dart, but it was gone by the time I saw the ad. I am looking for a project care for him. I have something in mind for Mommy. Daddy is getting a lump of coal. acc_angry

I actually agree with this. I don't "hate" Christmas but I "hate" all the commercialization of it. I want a solemn Christmas with family and friends too and enjoy a warm time of being kind to one another and giving each other presents (that were carefully thought out, not picked out from the corridors of the mall because it was already wrapped) and having a warm gathering. I don't enjoy all the Christmas songs being played at the malls. I prefer to listen to Christmas hymns by choral groups. That's just moi.

I still like Christmas but not the commercial part of it, how they push it just so you will "be moved."

inadvertently so.....when you become divorced the first thing you come to realize is that family life will never be the same again....no more family holidays, vacations or gatherings with inlaws....as a guy your friends, family and kids generally view you as the bad guy......the kids tend to feel sympathy for their mother particularly at holiday times and if they have to choose where to go they go there......that is why i find holidays boring as there is little to do over christmas, easter, thanksgiving etc....not whining just answering your question.......... ac_dunno

But life goes on and as long as there is life, there is hope. I believe in making each day count no matter what the circumstances are and I believe in making the most of what's left. The original dreams may no longer exist so make way for new dreams. I don't like the idea of settling for being "defeated." No way. There is still so much more to life. I always have a positive outlook even though everyone else thinks the road ahead is bleak. I'm sorry but I'll pass that kind of outlook.

You are justified to feel that way, Shen. Hate will eat at us though.

I have this story. A woman's husband cheated on her and he got his mistress pregnant. The husband left his wife and moved in with his mistress and their new infant, a son. Years later, the mistress was in her deathbed, dying of cancer. The man's wife went to her. They talked. The mistress asked the wife if she would take care of the son. The wife agreed. The mistress died. The husband was grateful to his wife for taking him back and for also taking his son with his mistress. They lived comfortably for a while until the wife too was on her deathbed. The man cried. He cried saying, "I am cursed! I loved these women but it seems I can't live with any of them happily ever after! God, forgive me!" After his wife died, he was lost, until a good woman, a widow, took him and his son in and took care of them both until the man died. You see, no matter what we do, people will get what's coming to them. What goes around, comes around. We have to at least make sure that we are not consumed by hate ourselves.

I was talking with my daughter tonight and a thought popped into my mind on how to make it more fun and interesting, I buy Christmas crackers every year and put them on each plate at the table. I'm thinking I should sneak something extra special into the little hole of the cracker, like maybe money and see the reactions I get  muhahahaha!

I used to throw a good X-mas party every year and crackers were always present. Very X-massy, most people like em a lot.

I used to make my own chocolates too Fash. I have a "kit" with molds, sticks, bags, microwave cups. It's been a while since I've made any. I used to make them for my daughter's classes or birthday or end of the year as gifts to teachers. Since we got rid of our broken microwave, I haven't bothered doing it on the stove.  Any leftover chocolate "chips" have long been found and eaten up lol

Anyways...back on topic....I'm going to make homemade crackers next week with my daughter and also some other Christmas fun crafts. Hubby isn't much for paper and glue projects but our daughter is creative and still likes arts and crafts.  I was thinking of wrapping my kids favorite chocolate bars individually and tying them together to make a sleigh or something like this:

Quote from: "Annie"We're going over to my brother and sister in laws for Christmas dinner. I'll surprise them with these too and build a ginger bread house with my niece and nephew. Also, I found a yummy recipe via facebook posts, chocolate eclair cake! Nom nom nom I can't wait to make it!

My family does not like gingerbread, but the houses are very decorative..

I will make a yule log cake.

I've already gained an extra 5 pounds and it isn't even Christmas yet! Usually by the end of January I gain like 10 or more pounds and then spend months working it off, but soo worth it.

I got some Hershey's kisses and chocolate almonds, but I am not planning on dessert on December 25. Anyone do anything special for X-Mas eve? Mommy is making her famous spring rolls. Perfect with a nice merlot.

Every Christmas Eve we have what hubby calls "snick snacks" smoked oysters, cheese, crackers, a few drinks. A couple Christmases ago I woke up with one heck of a hangover lol

I set out smoked sausage, several kinds of cheese and crackers, Swedish meatballs, fruits like sliced Fuji apples, dates and pears and a cheese foundue..

Lots of hot chocolate too.

Well, I won't have as many people as you do on X-mas evs, so if I put out all that food, it would not get eaten. I do like the fruit and fondue though.

I was born in Ontario but moved with my family when I was about 2. I remember sitting on my mother's lap on the plane and being scared and starting to cry. My grandma asked a lady for ice cream for me and I calmed down. My little brother was in a baby rocker on the seat next to us. I grew up in Langley but now I live with hubby and kids in the Tri City area. Fash, you're in Ontario, right?

A few weeks back a new guy to Canada was on the bus chatting with a few passengers and the topic of where to visit or live came up. Calgary was one of them and he asked if that's where all the cowboys live. He also asked if that's where all of Canada cows are. He had the whole bus cracking up, it was funny.

I took a meal today to the men that work at my husband's shop..

It was different than years past because sales are less this year than they have been in the past..

Nice young apprentices who would normally be happy seem to know they may have to find another employer some time in 2015..

They seemed appreciative, but that stress made it hard for them to feel joyful about the season.

When the kids were small they didn't know what to get Dad for Christmas, so I told them if they gave him a potatoe he'd be happy. So now every year someone gets a potatoe lolol It's fun to change things up a bit, we do the present within a present within a present etc too.  Also if someone says "I don't want anything" they get a wrapped empty box. But they also get a real gift too.
