I've had a lotta fun over the years discovering music I like that, for any number of reasons known and/or unknown, never made it to the mainstream. I'll kick it off with this dandy boogie piece I found several years ago:

These fellas were some jammin' fools. Like countless bands/artists over the years, they never quite got over the hump. Regardless, they produced some quality work that, thanks to the Internet, will be available to discover and enjoy forever:

Something different, here. I first heard this song years ago on a free sampler CD I'd received in the mail. The piano work, in particular, reminds me of Bruce Hornsby. Anyway, I like it, so here ya go:

This tune is something of a rarity. The band was led by David La Flamme, a fiddlin' fool. I had the good fortune to stumble across him years after this song came out. I went to a bar at a Colorado ski resort and he happened to be playing there that night. What a show! Sadly, he passed away a year or so ago:

I found this motor city band years ago. I also had a slower version of this song I liked even better than this. But, for the life of me, I can't find it anywhere. Anyway, they're kinda quirky, but they're also pretty damn good:

Buckwheat was from Erick, Oklahoma. They cut four albums for London Records, but nothing popped. They were headed by a superb vocalist, Debbie Campbell. Sadly, she passed in 2004.
Years ago when I deejayed, this song always got 'em on the dance floor:
Amen.
This band hails from Austin, Texas. Like so many others, I found this song while rootin' around on the Internet quite a few years ago. These guys are very good musicians and this is a very good song that has held up well over time:
Amen.
I found an mp3 of this song almost 20 years while rootin' around on the internet. It was by a band called the-low-country. I've never been able to find that mp3 version on ewe toob.
I've since figured out that the-low-country album is called "The Dark Road" and Emily Barker was a member of it. I'm guessing that the song is hers and this recording is of her performing it. This is not a happy song, but it's very good:
Amen.
I found this sleepy number over 15 years ago. This song different. This song is good:
Amen.
From Fort Worth, Texas, John Nitzinger has been an elite axe man for decades, having played with many big names over the years. I first heard this song back in the 70's. To this day, whenever I hear it, old memories are triggered:
Like so many others, I discovered this gem some years ago. There is an electric version, but I like this acoustic one. The opening guitars are especially nice:

I have a coupla Quicksilver Messenger Service albums. They weren't big hit machines, but they made their mark. This song isn't one of their better known jam numbers, but I like it:
Amen.
Family is a band with a decent following in the U.K. But, not so much in the USA. That said, I actually have the album this song appeared on. Me and a good friend of mine loved the song when it came out years ago:
Amen.
The Chocolate Watchband was a Los Altos, CA band formed in 1965. In their time, they were cool as hell and on the verge of making it big. But, despite strong local popularity, they never quite made it over the hump. They did, however, give us some period gems like this:
Amen.
Iron Knowledge was from Youngstown, OH. I don't know much about them and they only have a handful of 45rpm recordings on ewetoob. I do, however, remember this 1972 song, especially for its unforgettable heavy 'n' raw guitar:
Amen.
Python Lee Jackson was a band that originated in OZ, and ended up in the U.K. Guess who sang lead on this tune in exchange for some carpets for his car?
Amen.
Stu, I don't where else to post this. It is an original of a song, not the cover Led Zeppelin did on their first album. So I am sticking it here.

Actually, amigo, that isn't the "original." I love Jimmy's guitar work, but he's got musical sticky fingers. Here's the true original:
For years, Jimmy passed it off as his own work. Holmes finally sued him in 1980. It settled out of court and, if I remember correctly, it's supposed to now say "inspired by Jake Holmes", or something to that effect.

I worked at a small radio station years ago and they had a slew of promo albums stacked in a back room, gathering dust. Over time, I listened to quite a few of them, one of which was "Tasty" by a band I'd never heard of called The Good Rats. Here is a song from that album, which I think is very good. It builds up quite nicely:
Amen.
I can't recall how I stumbled across this little gem. I'd never heard o' Chris Wollard. A basic and simple tune, it flows through my ears easily and fine, painting a picture in my mind. In my book, that is a good song:

Thanks, Reg. It occurs to me that there is so much music out there that one could spend an entire lifetime listening to one song after another and not even come close to hearing it all. And it seems to be growing almost, if not outright, geometrically.

I could've put this in the 1960s thread, but decided it fits best here. The Knickerbockers were a New Jersey band formed in 1964 and this song actually reached #20 on the charts in 1965.
