Title: Report finds Canadian property and violent crime rates now 14 percent higher than in the US
Post by: DKG on November 29, 2024, 10:04:38 AM

While the homicide rate in the U.S. markedly exceeds Canada's, a new study by Lakehead University economics professor Livio Di Matteo, done for the Fraser Institute, says both property crime rates and overall violent crime rates are now higher in Canada than in the U.S.

"The idea that Canada is a much safer society than the United States is not supported by the data as rates of property and violent crime in Canada are now higher than south of the border," Di Matteo concludes in the first chapter of his upcoming study, Comparing Recent Crime Trends in Canada and the United States: An Introduction.

Similarly, the overall violent crime rate in Canada including murder, robbery and assault with a weapon — adjusted for differences in how the two countries define violent crime — Di Matteo says, shows Canada's rate of 434.1 crimes per 100,000 in 2022, a 43.8% increase from 2014, has in recent years surpassed the U.S. violent crime rate of 380.7 crimes per 100,000 in 2022 — a 5.3% increase since 2014 — by 14%.

Canadians will not be surprised to find out that crime here is not lower than in the country to the South. No matter the size of city Canadians live in they see mass homelessness, property crime, assaults, and drug use.

This simply reinforces what I've seen over the past ten years.

I don't think anybody who lives in Canada thinks of this country as safe or even safer than the States anymore. This study confirms that.

Canada, the States, and Mexico are very dangerous countries to live in. We know that.

There's still plenty of crime and violence in the states, a lot of it just isn't being reported anymore. The cops just dismiss it or don't even show up. None of that has disappeared, it's just being ignored.

Some cities in Canada are getting worse and more violent like Winnipeg parts of Toronto and urban centers in Saskatchewan. Vancouver is getting worse and there have been a few stabbing deaths. Most shootings here are gang related.

That is what is happening in Canada too. There is so much violent crime in Ontario cities like Toronto, Hamilton, London, and Windsor that you cannot look up because the police are hiding it.

Just a couple of days ago on the busiest highway in Canada some man was shooting at random cars with a hand gun.

Man accused of firing at vehicles on Hwy. 401 arrested after attempted carjackings, shootings in Toronto's east end

If that shit happened in Florida or Texas, there's a high likelihood that someone else with a gun would fill em full of lead.

I was not implying crime is not a problem in the US. Only that it is at least equally problematic here.

Even in small villages on the prairies, shit is happening. Where my boy lives folks are getting stabbed and robbed for their shoes. Shit is real now.

Finally, we found the smoking gun.

The obscene level of crime in Canada is one of the main 4 reasons we emigrated. We could put up with the wokeness horseshit if the country was safe, provided economic opportunities, had decent health care and taxes were reasonable. Sadly, Canada is zero for 4.

I found out that just a few days ago a transit bus driver in the city I lived in was attacked on the job by a group of young men. He's in critical condition in a city hospital. None of the local media is even covering it. Random attacks like that are like jaywalking now in Canadian urban centres.

Small cities and large towns in Ontario have homeless camps.

I am surprised True Dope isn't offering to pay for their flights like Biden did.
