This is a question for the ages. David Lee Roth was a better showman. Sammy Hagar is a better vocalist and a true musician.

Sammy was better by far.

Sammy's been great since all the way back to Montose days back in 70s.
Plus I had a couple beers with him at a strip club once in Clearwater, Florida.

Back in the late 80s I lived in Dunedin, Florida. I used to go to this gentlemans club with my work mates for lunch sometimes. The stripper bitches were hot as fuck and beers were only a buck.
Anyway, seeing as how it was lunchtime, the place was never very busy when we went in there. One day when we went in and settled at the bar, I ended up sitting next to this scruffy looking dude who was there to enjoy the cheap beer and hot bitches. Got to talking and it turned out it was Sammy Fucking Hagar. He was pretty cool.
Next time I'll tell you about the time I did a bunch of coke with Stevie Ray Vaughn. ;)
This one's good too:

Hmmm, I don't know....I liked both singers..
Van Halen changed their musical direction with Sammy Hagar which makes a comparison difficult.
Sammy Hagar :good:
Damn I agree with Shen.
Hagar was always the better musician. But David Lee Roth was a better showman.
And as a child of the 80s when someone says "Van Halen" my brain goes "I get UP...and nothing gets me down!!"

Haha I still see this playing on a cube shaped TV in a room with wood panel walls lol.
I like 'em both, but if there was a pistol to my head and I had to choose, I'd pick Roth Van Halen over Hagar Van Halen.
Amen.

I would go with the Roth era too. Not because I consider DLR a better vocalist. They were not Van Halen after Roth. They became Van Hagar. A different band.
I'm with team Sammy.
When I think of Eddie at his best, I think of VH with David Lee Roth.
I was never really a Van Halen fan no matter who held the mic. I thought Runnin With the Devil, Unchained, and Panama were okay. So, I guess I would say I like old Roth better.
Sammy Hagar solo was better than either Van Halen singer.

Think so? I kinda hear all Van Halen as just Eddie driving all the riffs. I think Sammy's musicality added a positive thing overall.
I did like David Lee as a frontman, though.
Never got into Van Halen.

There were fewer riffs and more reliance on keyboards with Sammy Hagar. That wasn't Sammy Hagar's idea, it was Eddie Van Halen's.
Apparently musical disagreements with the brothers was one of the reasons DLR quit the band.

Hmmm, I'd have to do a re-listen and I'm far too lazy for that. I do know that Eddie was hard to work with according to most. Even his wife left him because he was a jagoff.

This picture is of Eddie Van Halen and his mother taken in 1967. Lot of folks don't know it, but he was half Indonesian Chinese.

I just did a little checking on youtube, and ya Eddie was a real dick.
The thing is, I don't think the Red Rocker joined Van Halen outta need. It wasn't an upward move. He was already successful and famous as hell.
With that, it's time for a break with Hagar and his trusty Waboritas:
Amen.

From their first album with Roth to 5150, it hardly seemed like the same band anymore.
When AC/DC changed vocalists they maintained their musical style. That was not the case with Van Halen.

I don't know which denomination.
Van Halen died after the 1984 album when DLR left. They had lightning in a bottle and let it go.
Sammy was ALWAYS better before AND after VH.
Van Hagar was the sappiest squishy love song bullshit ever. It was embarrassing. Women like it better and no wonder.
Van Halen was "Grab em by the pussy!". Van Hagar was "Lemme take of your shoes and rub your feet honey while I cut off my wang all for YOU!"
Fuk a bunch of Van Hagar! You like it? YOU'RE A BITCH!!! FACT!

The bands of the 80s I really hate are the hair bands (Jovi, Poison, Whitesnake, etc.). They're the audio equivalent of nails on a chalkboard.
