Title: A Woman's Face on the $20.00 Bill
Post by: @realAzhyaAryola on March 24, 2015, 08:03:55 PM
A woman will replace Andrew Jackson on the $20.00 bill.

Whose face do you want to vote for?

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/group-wants-to-put-a-woman-on-the-20-bill/

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- Barbara Ortiz Howard already has a day job maintaining apartment buildings near New York City. Now she has a second job and it's all about money. No, not earning it -- she wants to fix what she says is wrong with it.

"There are no women on the money and I thought gee this is a crazy omission," said Howard.

Now she's on a mission to send President Andrew Jackson packing and put a woman on the $20 bill. After long hours of research she and some friends came up with a list of 15 extraordinary women. Though Howard says they're all her favorites, she clearly has a soft spot for Harriett Tubman who rescued slaves on the Underground Railroad.

I don't like Andrew Jackson on it, but none of the ones listed other than Elanor Roosevelt should be on there.

She was just about a President for a term, FDR was bad off most of his last term.

Anyhow, Franklin was one of the founding fathers of the US, and is referred to as the first actual "American," so I'm sure none would dispute his 'worthiness' of adorning certain currency, which he currently does.  (He's on $100 bills, by the way)...

I stand corrected, Franklin is on the $100.00.

Buy by law, a dead president is not the only person that can grace the face of a bill. Any deceased American of significant historical note can be nominated and approved to appear on the face of US money.

The irony is the Cherokee was betrayed by Jackson, and the US government when he took office.

Jackson had the Cherokee fight with him in the was against the Brits promising them land, and other stuff.

When he took office people complained because the Cherokee was taking business away from them since they did so well.

They discriminated against them, did bad things to them, and Jackson took measures by rounding them all up, and making them walk hundreds of mils west.

Maybe 4000 died.

The Cherokee was getting more successful than their white counterparts much like Jews did in Europe, people are scared of that for some reason.

To me it says work harder to catch up, and move on, be happy for them. Many blacks cry now because they want equality, it's there if they work hard, and quit blaming someone else.

Maybe the treasury would be better off printing some limited runs of people on that list like they have our quarters as of late.

They could add more like famous inventors, and influential people. I would like to see Eli Whitney on one, Tesla, I don't like him but Henry Ford, The Write brothers, Jonas Salk.

It would be nice since it would teach people about them, and people would ask who they are.

The USA can't keep up with that for now. There's too much red tape before they can get on the bandwagon to modify their currency, although that was a nice effort on the quarters--showing each state on it. That's all for now folks. New plastic bills will be a thing of the future for us over here.

It makes absolute sense.  I miss the one and two dollar bills also.  I also prefer 'paper' money.

The rest of the developed world knows that it is cheaper to punch lower denominations into coins instead of bills.

Plastic bills are also very difficult to counterfeit, and last for a long time in circulation.

I admire the US in their willingness to 'hold on' to old school ways, but from the views of the taxpayer (you and I), there are good reasons to 'update' currency...
