The painting below has many names, including the Blue Cloak.
Painted in the 16th century be a renowned Dutch artist, can YOU see some or all of his subtle pokes at humanity?

In the lower left you see a women carrying a smoking ember and a bucket of water. It illustrates the dutch proverb of "never believe someone who carries fire in one hand and water in the other". It's supposed to represent someone who is a two faced, shit stirring, douche.
I think that's something we all have been touched by recently.

On the upper left corner through a window, a man and woman are having hanky panky in the attic.
Banging your head against a brick wall, the world is turned upside down and it looks like the guy is taking a crap on it, the die is cast, throwing feathers into the wind, swimming against the current....
There are so many points.
Well, what ARE they?
Beating your head against a brick wall is one, of course...but there are literally dozens.
Renee was rii....sorry....Renee got one riii....damn...trying again...Renee is corr.....
Sorry. It just won't type. Weird.
Religion and superstitions.
Well spotted, Mel.
That is EXACTLY what it is not.
It's a collection of idioms.

Yes it does but anyone can list them. The trick is applying them or eluding to some form of life experience in order to explain their relevancy. Which BTW, I did. ac_sothere
Indeed you did. I'd do that as well but it would not be well received.

If you find a picture like the one above, you will get a big reward of $5 million reward for returning all of the stolen art. It was stolen 25 years ago as part of of $500 million art theft.

I have to say, La Grande Jatte by Seurat is one of my favourite pieces. The time and vision involved in pointillism is astounding.

It has it's own charm but I really like faces I can distinguish.
What about this little babybooboobesolucious sweet one? She's too adorable it's almost unreal.

The proverb of the man and woman who are having hanky panky through the window is, "To marry under the broomstick." The meaning of it is, "To live together without marrying."
OK, art appreciators...
Talk about THIS one...

The woman facing us looks like she is day dreaming while she bartends in reality (the scene behind). She is clearly not happy about something in her life - probably a man. She has that "men make me sad" look on her face.
Well, its a worthy start....however, the scene behind her is a mirror...does that change the perspective? Not only of the scene, but of the viewer?
It is NOT a mirror. The perspective is off as is the number of bottles on the bar in the supposed reflection. No artist spends that much time on a painting to mess up a mirror image.
Look closer.
I'm sorry...but it very much IS a mirror!!!The painting reflects (sorry....had to be done) a scene in the Folies Bergeres...and the bar is the same now as it was in the late 19th century.
But, you're touching on the key issue.
You're wrong. Sorry. It is not a mirror reflection. It's an out of body "reflection".
