Is it ever okay to torture someone?  



I know if someone kidnapped one of my kids, I would personally torture information out of anyone who wouldn't give it up readily and I wouldn't feel the least bit guilty about it.

I think it is as long as you don't become the person you are torturing. That assumes the person is a monster, and you can save people by using torture.

I agree. By threatening to harm your kids they are effectively torturing you. You can't expect someone to respond unemotionally under those conditions.

I don't want to even think about anything so horrible.

If a family member was kidnapped and you were trying to save them, then yes maybe.

But if the hurt has already occurred (sexual assault, murder) then there's no point in torturing the person because the crime has already been committed and you can't undo what they did.

Hard to say. If it stops someone from being harmed it might be justified, but where do you draw the line of how much harm warrants it and who is important enough to make it acceptable? It's complicated.

While I have not "been there" ... I am certain in my mind that I would do what it takes ... do what is right ... yes I meant to say that ..... but only being there would prove it



As would most of those who pontificate about how bad torture is .. when push came to shove ... and they were faced with the terrible  reality. Evil would be to let someone die because one  didn't care enough about others .. innocents ...  to do the right thing

Really? I have always thought of you as having more restraint than I do. Once I lose my temper, I act on it. Really trying hard though to break this quirk about me. I don't want my son growing up seeing his Mommy fly off the handle so often and for very little reason. Very bad example to set.
