My husband has been suffering from tennis elbow now for five months..
He cannot workout anymore because the pain in his left elbow..
If he bumps it against a door frame the pain is excruciating..
He went to our doctor who suggested some exercises, but they are not working..
Does anyone know of anything that may help?
Yes, I do. There are tennis elbow straps that are available that may offer some relief. This is what they look like:

(//%3C/s%3E%3CURL%20url=%22http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41jbJEr5NfL._SY300_.jpg%22%3E%3CLINK_TEXT%20text=%22http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/4%20...%20SY300_.jpg%22%3Ehttp://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41jbJEr5NfL._SY300_.jpg%3C/LINK_TEXT%3E%3C/URL%3E%3Ce%3E)
You should be able to find them at your local drug store for under $30.
Ouch, been there, all I could do is let it rest up over a year or so. I put a tens unit on it that helped a little.
My doctors said exercise it also, but that made it worse.
An armband helps a lot if you are working.

I used one of those bands RW posted about, it helped a lot, but isn't a cure.
I was working on an assembly line constantly abusing my elbow so likely most peoples will heal faster if took care of.

So, the best cure is rest from your experience Blue?
Resting it helped me, but working it was hard to do. I'm not sure, but if someone properly stretched the muscle, and tendon it might help more.
The exercises I did didn't help, but passably if a specialist would have helped it might have.
My rest was constantly interrupted.

I will be calling our doctor to book another appointment for my husband..
While he waits, I will go to Shopper's tonight to buy Arm Band.

The arm band helps stabilize it, any relief is good. I used an ace bandage also, but I needed something extra while working.

It is difficult watching him not be able to do the things he loves to do and especially the pain he feels.

I think tennis elbow is a repetitive motion injury isn't it? - so it could be anything.
Mine got so bad sometimes I had to lift my arm with my other hand. I still have it lock up sometimes if on the phone a long time, hurts to straighten it out.
A doctor might send him to a therapist.

My husband thinks it is the result of increased workouts.

That is a possibility Blue.
The pressure bands do work. I use one in a similar fashion for my knee. Also apply ice and lots of it. Get a good cold wrap; 20 mins on, 20 mins off, as many times a day as your husband can. Ice relieves the inflammation in the joint and the tendons.

That could be. Maybe he's wearing it down faster than it can heal? I would say just hold off on doing anything that might make it worse for a while.

Hello Renee and thank you..
But do you know what our family doctor said; only use heat.

My father in law uses the band for his golf elbow and swears by it.
Physiotherapy might help as well.

For a sports loving, active man that will not be easy.
He's going to have to suck it up.

Heat does nothing for inflamed tissue. In fact in many cases it makes the inflammation worse. Heat is generally only good for stiff or pulled muscles. I've had enough sports related injuries to know what works and what doesn't. For any kind of joint or tendon related injury, use ice to reduce the inflammation and relieve the pain. Heat can later be used to gain mobility during the rehab or healing process.

Is he Asian? I hear Asians are at greatest risk of osteoporosis. Maybe get him to see a doctor and ask the doctor if it could be osteoporosis.
