Canada doesn't seem to import the one I want (Whynter 14,000 BTU's).
Home Depot US has a pretty good deal on 'em right now ($460.00 USD), so I ordered one.
At first I wasn't sure if I could make the order happen, since US Home Depot online fields only accept Zip Codes when inputting billing info. Although I will be picking the item up, I wasn't sure if entering a random Zip Code would muck things up. Talked to the store, and it's fine to enter the Bellingham Zip Code, I have found.
The Whynter 14,000 BTU is superior to any models Home Depot Canada sells, and at $460, the price is better too. Luckily I live only 30 mins from Bellingham (border crossing time excluded), so this should be a worthwhile trip. The store should get it within a couple of weeks or so.
Will update my thoughts on the unit in the future, once it gets some use...

My hubby bought one. It works so well, I have to get up in the middle of the night and turn it off it is so cold. If you like a very cool sleep, you'll be happy with your purchase.
A Whynter?
Either way, it'll be cooling 700 sq/ft... A little over its capacity, but then again we don't get desert-like heat here. Will provide update on its ability to cool this area.

No, but it's 14000 BTU's. He bought it at Bed, Bath and Beyond. I believe it is a Kul.

We seldom get that much heat Mel Gibson.
Should work, I hope! My condo got pretty hot for a while last summer. I don't like sitting around dripping in sweat, so hopefully this makes my life more comfortable!
We are not allowed to modify the exterior of the building, so a window or 'through the wall' type A/C is a no-no here... Limited to portable.

Your condo is prolly smaller than our master bedroom.
It's 700 sq/ft, so take it as you will!
I do have a King Size bed in the bedroom, with enough room to spare, so it works for me.

That is damned tiny.
Quote from: "Shen Li"

It's a one-bedroom condo. That's how they are...
Two and three bed condos are too close in price to a townhouse. If I really needed a large condo with multiple beds and baths, I would be better off simply purchasing a townhouse.
If I ever meet a woman with her shit together, and an income, a townhouse would be the next logical step up.
But just for me? One bed condo is fine...
Also, don't forget where I live! The GVRD isn't exactly cheap.
10 acres with a creek running out back is a little out of my (and most others) price range here!~
Only rich Asian money launderers, er I mean businessmen, come with that kind of dough!
Sweet! You can put your salt and pepper shakers next to it!
Am I missing something here? Who buys a condo, townhouse, etc with no central air?

I am used to central air as well.

I don't know what Condo's you've lived in, but the Condo's I've looked at out here either have no air conditioning, or 'through the wall' mounted units.
Maybe in the Southern States central air is standard, but not here.
Either way, a portable will work. When summer is over, I simply wheel it into my storage locker.

What condo has central air? Every one I have ever lived in condo and townhouse in has always had baseboard heaters and gofuckyourself AC.

Sorry to hear that Mel. Here in the states condos, especially new construction usually have central air. Those that don't are usually high rise or old garden apartment conversations and those usually have thru the wall units.

Apparently the ones that Renee and Berry Sweet live in...
Again, it's nothing that my Whynter 14,000 BTU portable shouldn't be able to handle. And it goes in storage when it's no longer needed.

See if you had central air you just turn it off when it's not needed. It also tends to be a lot more energy efficient than the rolling cold air R2 unit you bought. Just remember to empty the condensate bottle once in a while.
Condo's here don't have central air! At least not "regular" condos.
I'm sure some expensive ultra-luxury condos do, but I'm not classy enough for those.

What do you mean you aren't classy enough? Don't you have an overpriced shotgun hanging on your wall? ac_umm
The Browning BPS Medallion? Far from expensive.
And classy as in I don't have 1.2 million for a Vancouver luxury condo. Housing prices here are probably foreign to you. Not so bad as New York, but think maybe San Francisco?

No shit? But let's face it. If you pay more than $300 buck for a pump gun you paid too much.
It has a nice fit & finish, at least compared to Mossy or Rems.

Pump guns are utilitarian weapons. Fit and finish is generally not a concern.
I've owned a Maverick 88. I can assure you fit & finish makes a difference. At least it does to me...
I am happy you like your new air conditioner Mel Gibson.

I just ordered it today!
Bellingham HD will have it in for pickup in a couple of weeks...
I don't mind air conditioners, but too much in the summer starts giving me a cold...I prefer to have a bunch of fans blowing. At night time, I put a big square fan in one of my windows and let the cool air blow in all night, then first thing in the morning I close all the windows.
I have fans also. However, there are always those couple weeks here and there in the summer, when it just gets too much...

I experience that too Berry Sweet.
The only thing I'd really like is a small portable plug in air conditioner...just for sleeping at night time...on very hot days LO can sleep in my bed or on an air matress in my room and close the bedroom door and just keep the single room air conditioned...sometimes when it's too hot at night its impossible to sleep...so only for that reason.

Are there air conditioners on interval timers?
That can turn on for thirty minutes and then shut off for thirty minutes?
Most have timers.
Remember though... Every air conditioner has to be exhausted to the outside.
I don't know about timers...Im sure they must have something small you can plug in (that doesn't need to be exhausted) that can keep a rom a few degrees cooler than normal.
Yeah Berry, it's called a fan.
no no...like an actual mini air conditioner...just a tiny thing for a single room use...not a fan..
What's wrong with a fan?

Do they shut off after a certain time or can they turn on and off again at regular intervals?

For an air conditioner to work, it has to be exhausted to the outside in some fashion. Simple thermodynamics, yo!

You set the temp, and it'll cycle, just like your fridge...

Berry, any portable air conditioner needs a hose routed out a window.
Yeah I know...btu I just remember talking to someone about this and they were telling me about this mini air conditioner that didn't have to be exhausted...I dunno...but if something like that does exists, I'd love to buy one!

Maybe the product Berry Sweet is referring to is not an actual air conditioner?
It produces cool air, but may technically not be an air conditioner?

Yes, could be!
It is impossible for an air conditioner to cool a room, without somehow exhausting the hot air. Simple thermodynamics...
Hot air is "soaked up" and goes where? Back into the room? It MUST have an exhaust to the outside.
My parents have a fan that you can load up with cold water or ice cubes, and it blows that around. May work well enough for some, and much cheaper than an air conditioner...

That reminds me of the cooler filled with ice and a fan blowing....the red neck air conditioner...I wonde rif that actually works?!
They work until the ice cubes melt, which doesn't take long in the heat of summer...

Yeah I was gonna say, it's almost time for me to spark up a fatty and watch a movie.
Good night Fashy.
Have a toke for me...
I can do that!
In fact, just PM me your address. I'll take a cab over with a few brews. You can have a couple, and I'll toke, and then have Bupinder drive me back home...
I live too far from you.
Mot sure if Bupinder can drive all that way?
I thought you lived in Coquitlam, or PoCo, or somewhere around there?
Langley is far from anywhere.
No it's not!
Maybe if you're walking, or pedaling a bicycle like the junkies do...
I guess it's not too bad...I wish they didn't have the toll on the port mann...I have some good friends in surrey and I hardly go now to avoid the stupid tolls...every once in a while tho.
Whatever! I just want a toke! And you're coming up with excuses now.
Oh sorry...I know I always pm men I have never met my address and let them come into my home at all hours of the night...but not tonight...
