There are times when a little help is necessary, even in Texas. Between Texas and Oklahoma I imagine the damage will go into the billions. It's not over yet, the surge is heading south. Lots more flooding on the way downstream.
Freeway feeder on Interstate 35 in San Marcos.
Car with occupants swept away. Car occupants did get out safely somehow.
Misc flooding.
The lightening flash boiled the moisture in the tree, causing it to explode. There's pieces 30 feet away.

That is terrible kiebers..
My heart weeps for the people who are suffering..
I know their pain..
We were forced to evacuate our house due to the Southern Alberta floods.
It is terrible but as long as we have a minimum loss of life its all good. Anyone that builds close to a river has to expect this to happen and always be prepared. Fortunately my house in the hill country is high enough to never have this happen, or if it did its 40 days and nights all over again and it won't matter. My Houston home is reasonably safe from flooding. Of course my Galveston home is definitely in the path of destruction from hurricanes. But we know this and choose to have a home there. When I rebuild in the next few years I will be at least 3 feet higher than the water got that ruined my place.
You have two homes?!
Stay safe kiebs!

The houses that had the most damage in Alberta were built on a flood plain as you said kiebers..
Our house was damaged, but we were able to clean it up and repair it as it was before the flood..
It is close, but not next to the Bow River.

Three if you count the one I am fixing to tear down and rebuild. Property poor.

No danger here. That will be in a few years when we retire to Galveston. But we will never chance it. We will get the hell out of Dodge. (American saying)
I hate it when I hit the quote button instead of the edit button...LOL
We say "Get the hell out of Dodge" here too :)
I actually pick where I am going to live keeping natural disasters in mind.
Fortunately we have enough family and friends scattered about the area that we have no problem barging in on someone.

My dad did the same thing when he rebuilt the shore house after hurricane Sandy. So far, so good but then again there hasn't been any storms on the Jersey shore of any major magnitude since he rebuilt it. I guess time will tell.
Stay safe , stay dry.
DON'T DRINK THE WATER!!!

Yes it is. We have had the place for over 20 years. Wife's dad built it and she has been going there since 1968. We both love to fish and boating so its great all around and a commonality that helped bring us together and keep us together.

In 1968, kiebers“s wife was in Galveston and Kiebers was in Vietnam.
Not quite. She was 12 and I was 15 in 68.
THAT'S not a flood.
THIS is a flood...
Sorry to hear of this calamity, kiebs. I hope you and yours are safe.
Yes, best wishes, kiebers.

Thank you sir. We got hit hard in Houston last night. Over 10 inches of rain in some areas with probably an average of 6+ inches in others. Lots of flooded areas. Most all school districts closed today. More rain due tonight in the hill country areas already ravaged by the floods. Not over yet.
I've heard that in many places the flooding was compared to tsunamis.

On a smaller scale for sure. There was a family trapped in a house on stilts (pilings) the water just picked the house up and carried them down the river. The father was found and is in the hospital, dog was found alive in the tops of a tree, Mother and three children still missing. They were floating along and hit a bridge which destroyed the house. The mother had time to call her sister and tell her what was going on. Tragic. More rain in the hill country tonight. Initial surges are coming downstream now and hopefully everyone has evacuated. Still people missing in all areas. Death toll is rising.

What a gorgeous photo of a great city, and Stevie Ray Vaughn rocks. Austin will be that way again soon! If there's any people who can overcome travesty and make things even better, it's Texans...

I heard ya, and I agree.
Thank you, it will bounce back soon. It is a beautiful city.
The next few days will not be pleasant for some. Ground is still soaked, coastal rivers still at semi flood stage and tropical storm Bill is starting to drop even more rain. May get as much as 12 inches in some areas. Crossing fingers that we have no more deaths.

Well I am thinking we missed the worst of tropical storm Bill. We have yet to get the kind of rains in Houston they were predicting. However we are getting rain north and west of us. The same area that flooded so bad a few weeks ago. The ground is still soaked. Hopefully people are in safe areas. Lost over 30 lives a few weeks ago and don't need that again. I have some friends in the area it came onshore at and they said it wasn't that bad so maybe things will be ok.
