Title: The Grand Baby Room

Oymygawd! I'm going to be a Grandma! Our son was here for Father's Day dinner and told us the good news.  I wish she could have made it for dinner but she was working. I wanted to give her a super big hug too.  She's due in January.  Between her family and us, they will always have free daycare.  I'm super excited!!!!  ac_dance  ac_dance  ac_dance

Thank you! I'm super excited!!! They're hoping it's a boy because her family is basically all girls. But whatever it turns out to be, he/she will be very loved.  ac_smile

Congrats Annie. I know firsthand how great that is. It's almost like a do over. It's been some of the happiest years of my life.

Hi Annie, so happy for you.

I just had a grand niece back in December, it was a girl. I was likely as excited as you are.

I spent probably $1500 on her 6 months before she was born even.

It's so great to have a new baby around, they are so special girl, or boy.



I hope all goes well, and the mom is well soon after.

Good luck with having a boy :)

Thanks guys, ya I hope it all goes well too. They're both healthy so that's a plus. She goes for her prenatal checkup this Friday.  She got on the prenatal vitamins as soon as she knew. She's about 2 months along now but they waited to announce it just in case. When she's further along they'll have the ultrasound and be able to see if it's a boy or girl.

I went ahead, and bought a lot of unisex stuff to start with. I had to get a crib, and all that stuff so cute animal prints was the theme :)

I asked my son and he said if it's a girl something different and not too common, I think he said Arya. If it's a boy they're thinking Alexander. Alexander was what I was going to call my daughter if she was a boy. I like that name.

I'd like to be called just Grandma. She is having an ultrasound next Thursday! Oooohhh!!! Although at only 2 months or so there won't be a lot of detail but still woohoo! Right now we're online shopping for a floor model air conditioner for them, they're apartment is too hot. She's staying at her parents cooler house while my son is out of town for work.

And the air conditioner has been ordered, delivery is next Tuesday. It will be delivered to my house for security and they just come pick it up and that way I can make them stay for dinner or a bbq muahahaha!

A domino game similar to the card game spades. Tricky part is using the 5 and 10 count dominoes when bidding and choosing trumps. A fun game played with 4 people. Just another excuse to get the grand daughter over to the house.

Hi, Kiebers, she's still in hospital. Might be 3 or so more days. But she's improving! She's lacked so much sleep, now that's she's feeling better she can finally get some.  Her appetite is slowly coming back. She ate the 6 inch turkey sub I brought her today  ac_smile

They found out the sex of the bay today....and ...it's.... going to be... a girl!!!! Woohoo! I'm going to have a Grand Daughter!!!  :yahoo:  She felt it was a girl and my daughter and I thought so too. Son was hoping for a boy first but he's super happy they're having a little girl. They're gonna make awesome parents  ac_smile

Update.....She still hasn't had the baby. A few weeks ago the doc told her she was actually a couple weeks further along than they thought. She just told me that if she doesn't have her by this weekend, they will induce her next week. Omygawd ohmygawd!!! We all think our son is going to pass out lolol

Daughter in law told me they have decided on cloth diapers and have invested 200 bucks for them (rubber covers included) They want to be as chemical free and save as much money as they can.  I did the same with our kids and I let them crawl/run around naked half the time, best thing for baby's skin to prevent diaper rash. And noo not one time did they pee or poop on the floor  :thumbup:  She and I are taking bets as to when he will pass out. She's betting when he's asked to cut the cord and I think it's when she starts hard labor. She's planning all natural, no meds etc.

Hubby passed out when I was being given the epidural with our son, he also almost passed out when he was being delivered. For our daughter he refused to be in the same room, he was too chicken shit  :laugh3:

Hubby passed out when I was being given the epidural with our son, he also almost passed out when he was being delivered. For our daughter he refused to be in the same room, he was too chicken shit  :laugh3:

When I had the epidural, of course I couldn't see it going into my spine but hubby did. I heard the nurse behind me say something like "this guy is about to pass out!" He had to be escorted out of the room until it was done.  I guess I should rephrase how many have and have not passed out to how many also were too chicken to be in the room lol

My daughter is doing fine right now. Today is her birthday, she's 21! We just finished having dinner. I made fettuccine alfredo, mashed potatoes, salad with kale and cucumber. Last night I baked the cake, iced it and wrote Happy Birthday 21 and her name in multi colors. I put 4 sparklers and a candle in the middle. It wasn't a prank candle but some some reason it wouldn't blow out lol. Now she's in the tub with her bubbles.

I used to have shorter hair, a bob cut for many years but then I decided to grow it out and now that I'm doing Cosplay Merida, I need it to be long.  I cut my hair when my kids were babies because that's the first thing they grab onto when you hold them lol

In Vancouver, they have Cosplay events, a couple times a year. My brother and nephew go to a ton of them and all over the place. They travel to the states for events. I don't have the energy to do that much so I'm just gonna stick with parades and cosplay events in Vancouver.

Still not yet! They tried inducing her yesterday but that didn't work.  She's at 1 cm and about 43 weeks now. The baby is head down and there's no sign of distress. Her heart beat is good, brain activity is good. She's home now but going back to hospital on Monday or Tuesday to try inducing again. Poor girl, she's a bit stressed.  I'm worried for her  ac_crying  If inducing again doesn't work then they'll do a caesarean section.

Son says he cried in the operating room and when he held her she just stared at him. We're gonna go on Thursday when it won't be too overwhelming for them.  He took pics but no wifi right now.

I knew she was going to be a big baby but not that big! I thought maybe 8 pounds or so. She carried that child for almost 10 months! No wonder she's that big.

I bought her a Winnie The Pooh book with a Winnie The Pooh musical bear clip on. It has a play button and a stop button so they can turn it off when it starts to drive them nuts, hahaha.

Well then maybe he just wants to be a professional couch surfer! He can write a book! An autobiography: My life As A Couch Surfer! lol I'm kidding. That has to be tough. When our son was 15 he dropped out of high school, spent his days sleeping and playing video games in his room. We said everything and encouraged him but the only thing that actually worked was that I stopped buying the food he liked (like bacon) I stopped doing his laundry (I even didn't have a clean towel for him to use) each day I took away something he liked like not allowing friends over. It took about 12 days I think when he got off his ass and went out and got a job. He started working at KFC. I told him unless he wants to be forever frying chicken he better get his grade 12 and he did. Now he's 23, working 2 jobs, going to Community College and raising a baby with a wonderful girl.  We did a bunch of other stuff to him and made his life kind of a living hell but we told him we were doing it because we loved him :)

No, you did the right thing Grannie. The situation with my son is different. The wife and I both grew up on farms in Saskatchewan and we had to work physically hard from a young age. We wanted our boy to have an easier life than we had.



I worked all over the world on drilling rigs as a driller, toolpush and finally wellsite consultant. I would be in Africa, the middle East, South East Asia or South America and only coming home every second month to my wife and son. Well we got divorced when he was seven. I put money my monthly maintenance payments in her account from where ever I happened to be in the world.



We made sure he went to university and he graduated with a BA, but it is not an occupation related degree. We never made him get part time jobs and some where he decided work was beneath him. He had a job with the federal government, but he kept taking leaves to travel, party, anything but work. He would run out of money, move in with me or my ex, get a job, pay no bills, use our vehicles and then repeat the finding himself thing again.



I talked with my ex and we have decided he has two months from the time he gets to either of our places to get his own place. He has travelled, had his fun, but it is time to spread his wings and learn to fly without a parental parachute.



I forgot to mention, he has an attitude too. He says, I only care about money. Do you believe that? He lives off of me for free when he is here and surfs the net for couches to sleep on when he travels. Ah frick, what do I do with my boy.

Ya, it's time he learns to be independant and take responsibility for himself.  We too put money away (in an RESP) for the kids and he's using some of it again for more courses. Not enough for University but enough to get him into something where he can advance and then take more courses and climb the ladder from there.  There comes a time for all kids when party time is basically over, although if they work hard, there's always a Saturday once in awhile to unwind.

You did the right thing getting on his case at a young age. The ex and I waited too long. My son feels entitled. I just hope it's not too late. I really want to see him be an independent man. When that happens I want to be a grandpop.

25 is still relatively young, but once he's say 30, then I'd start to really worry. If you're supporting him financially in any way, I'd start by gradually decreasing those benefits and explain to him that he's not a child anymore and that adults need to take care of themselves. Not too tough love but get on it maybe, that's all I can think of.

It is young, but he should be working towards something. I was married, had him and paying a mortgage at his age.



He will be coming home broke with his Australian girlfriend. My ex and have talked and he can live with either of us for two months for free, but then he will pay room and board or he will be out. He won't be allowed to use our vehicles either after two months. That is a reasonable time frame. It's time for him to be a man.

He has never had a place of his own. He's never had a vehicle of his own. He lived with my ex when he went to university in Regina. After that he would divide his time between my place and his mother's, live expense free, work briefly and then travel. The free ride is over. I think it was me that said it. They would have stood a better chance if they used a diaper service. Washing and disinfecting shitty diapers sucks. :laugh3:

Nope I just can't sleep at times. Depending on the weather or what my activity is during the day, my hip and back ache. And my ears are bothering me. I have to get them checked again. The meds aren't working too great. At first it was water behind one ear drum but now the other is hurting too. I think it relates to my seasonal allergies. When I was a kid my allergies were bad and I always had ear infections  :sad:

I sympathize, right after Christmas I started having trouble hearing out of my right ear. I finally broke down and went to the doctors a few weeks ago and they sent me to an E&T. I had to have my right ear drained. The doctor discovered a hemotympanum (blood behind the ear drum). The doctor put a small incision in the drum and sucked some of it out. It wasn't pleasant but not especially painful.



I've been on antibiotics and ears drops and so far if feels 100% better. What troubles me is that a hempotympanum is more often than not caused by a skull fracture or some other sort of head trauma. To my knowledge I have had no head trauma; at least none that I can remember. :laugh3:



 So it can only be chalked up to an old infection or..... aliens. ac_umm

I don't wear ear plugs, but my dr did ask me months ago if I shoved q tips in to clean, which I do not. I do clean them but I don't cram anything in there. They feel hot and plugged. Sounds are a bit muffled as if people are mumbling a bit. My daughter has become used to talking loudly to me now lol.

They feel hot and plugged. Sounds are a bit muffled as if people are mumbling a bit. My daughter has become used to talking loudly to me now lol.

Anyone that works in very noisy environments has to wear earplugs..



My husband has to wear them if he goes out to a rig location.
