It's for Celsius, a form of measurement used in the Metric system. The Metric system is the standard which is replacing the much less efficient and outdated Imperial system.

The Metric system is used by 96% of the world's population, including Australians and Canadians.

It's a pleasant 9 degrees here and raining cats and dogs right now. We here in Victoria are accustomed to cool and wet. That's why we're issued with umbrellas when we're born.

How far is that from you and what's the elevation difference?  Their temp was 0.3C which you can get snow.  Not at 11C.

11℃ equates to about 51.8 ℉. No where in the world do you get snow at that temperature. Even .3 ℃ is still slightly above freezing so the only thing I can chalk up your sensitivity to cold is.....old age.  :laugh3:

Apparently, scientists have collected some of the snow and examined it through a microscope.

Rain at -2.8C?
Title: Re: 12C and HAIL
Post by: Frood on July 18, 2015, 08:45:07 PM
-2.8 in the mornings. Rain before and after it. The ground and foliage is saturated from many weeks of raining. It doesn't drop below freezing long enough to freeze the ground, so moisture is everywhere.

That always makes it feel colder than it is because the dampness permeates everything.

How are homes heated where you live Spectre..

Back in Taiwan it is usually hot and humid, especially in the South where my family is from..

In winter on rare occasions when it is cool at night houses can feel cold because they are not insulated in the way Canadian houses are.
Title: Re: 12C and HAIL
Post by: Bricktop on July 18, 2015, 11:40:27 PM
Homes here are heated in a variety of ways.

Most only have a single heater in one living room, but others in the more expensive homes have ducted air conditioning and heating.

Some have heated floors, but these are not popular because they are too slow to bring a room up from cold.

Of course, we have our blistering summers to deal with as well. Not so much humidity, as the heat is blown from the Devil's Cauldron by northerly winds that are very, very hot but very, very dry. It makes the heat for more bearable than the tropics.

However, it means we have to contend with 2 seasons that are quite cold, then quite hot...

About a 7 hour drive from here.

It's not that it was ever too blokey. After hearing Ozphile foreigners using it in their everyday convos, most of us dropped it like crikey, Ugg boots, Fosters, and anything to do with prawns on the barbecue. I blame the Americans.

Do you mean a plug in electric heater SPECTRE?

That is common in Taiwan and parts of China.
Title: Re: 12C and HAIL
Post by: Bricktop on July 19, 2015, 09:24:23 PM
Yes, some use them, although they are horribly expensive to operate. Most heaters are gas, some oil.

But modern homes are using ducted air conditioning these days as the units are far more economical to operate than they used to be, and you need aircon for the summer anyway.
