Title: Tattoos in China
Post by: RW on August 26, 2015, 05:31:19 PM
Tattoos are no longer taboo in China.

It seems Chinese people like getting English words on them.

It's OK for a student, music biz or someone working in a bar. However, if someone interviews for a job in my home country and every other candidate had visible tattoos, I know the inkless one will be the one offered the position.

It's still like that here.  In some jobs, you need to cover your ink.

Fashionista; "Look, Shen Li, handsome Chinese boy with three dragons on chest!"

Shen Li; "Hah. I like Chinese boy with one draggin' on ground."

Tattoos are seen as a youthful indiscretion in Taiwan I think..

Taiwan is a white collar economy..

Visible tattoos on adults are viewed as unprofessional.

It's not as common in the West and it's unlikely it ever will be..

If you are in areas of Shanghai, Beijing or Guangzhou frequented by foreigners it would appear that way..

But, if you work at a Chinese owned company, visible tattoos would be very uncommon.
