I refuse to use Facebook, always have, and have repeatedly asked family members and friends to keep me out of their timelines whether that be in photos or mentions.
The problem is that many of these people are so hardwired into the Facebook system, they have lapses of judgement and indirectly or sometimes directly do include photos and mentions.
I can't wait for FB to go belly up and society realize personal boundaries once again. What do you think?
After midnight Facebook is boring
Wow. Control issues much? Why do you care?
Control issues? :MG_216:
Don't go away flustered, Dove. Just go away.
What else do you call lording over family members and friends about which of their pictures they can put on their timelines? Is your face copyrighted?

Okay, so you don't like FB; I'm not exactly enamored with it either. But when you start a thread about not wanting others to mention you or post pics containing your image and then leave no real explanation why; expect to be questioned on it.
If you aren't willing to talk about it, then why start the thread in the first place? So FB people are "inconsiderate" big deal, thanks for letting us know. :001_rolleyes:
It actually cracks me up how Dinky thinks she's some authority over how people express their points of view and what platform they take, and apparently also how people post on their timelines....and then she has the utter nerve to talk about boundaries. Amazing lol.

That's perfectly acceptable but does it make sense to just drop that sentiment here and then refuse to discuss why? Is this place some kind of public service announcement bulletin board? ZERO fucks are given if Dinky has a problem with FB users. Does anyone here have the potential of putting her image on their FB page?.......No. Hell we can't even decide what gender he/she/it is. :001_rolleyes:
This thread is nothing more than a child coming to the dinner table and saying that they don't like broccoli.
Geeze, thanks for filling me in.
Straight forward stance explained, the issue, and a question about what others think, Renee.
Then a certain female slithered in and attempted to shoot softballs out of her crotch at me, later to be joined by a certain aging male of dubious bowel movement abilities.
They're not here to discuss anything, so far, and therefore I owe them no consideration, so far.
Now pass the broccoli, Vegephobe.

Well, as to what I think; who cares if someone occasionally mentions you in their timeline. It's not national news, although you may think it is. Unless you are a fugitive on the lamb or a secret agent  , what consequence does it carry? IMHO it's not even worth mentioning.

I'm stunned by the things people will blast all over face book. It can be cringe worthy.
Examples?
Tantrums about their relationship issues, break up issues, et. Pictures of their kids in the bath rub. Tagging everywhere you are.
But we do that here!!!
Dove is right. Too many people don't know when enough is enough or what is appropriate and what isn't. It gets very annoying.
I got rid of my FB page months and months ago. It had been pretty much dormant for a year or more before hand anyway. I always found social media sites like FB and the previous MySpace crap to be novelties. Once the novelty wore off, it became more of a bother than anything else.

Only months and months ago? Geez, you're a bright spark.
For me, I finally joined after showing no interest in it for years. I joined because family and friends persisted for they were all there but not I. They said we'd connect and share photos, thoughts, plans and ideas. My friends, Mom, and relatives were happy to connect with me there. I suppose I was happy too, for a while. My Mom would share my posts to her friends so they can post accolades to her for what ever "clever" posts she thinks her "daughter" posted.
I liked it at first but eventually got tired of the phonies, the liars, the self righteous, and the narcissists. I finally asked myself, "What am I doing wasting my time reading these irrelevant rubbish!?" I got tired of the daily selfies of the superficial horde and reading posts by the sophomoric troop displaying their imagined brilliance. As you can tell, the novelty had worn off. I tolerated all that for a while but I can no longer. It was not enhancing my life. Now and then I did find some inspiring stories but you find that everyday away from facebook. So, I deactivated my facebook account and have been happy not going there anymore. What a relief. What sweet freedom not to possess the desire to log in and waste my precious time. I email family and friends to stay in touch. To be plugged in more in my real life is bringing me more joy than spending time in that world of trivial noise. One side of my brain says I can say the same about spending time in forums and perhaps that explains why I am not on a forum day in and day out and all hours. Thank you, come again. ac_biggrin

Roman Catholics are pagan heretics. Not Christains. This shows your ignorance of Christain theology AND church history. This is well known, a sordid part of church history. Christains do not believe in praying to the dead, calling anyone "holy father", needing a priest, baptising infants, or canonizing saints. We do NOT worship or pray to Mary. She is not "the queen of heaven" or "mother of God". This is in direct opposition to scripture and the RC used to stone and burn CHRISTAINS, who pointed this out. This just a small few examples. These practises are anti biblical, and NOT christain. Roman catholism is its own religion, bible believing born again Christains separated from that mess ages ago.

my grandma was Roman Catholic and she used to pray to Jesus. That's christian imo - not knowing much about these things.
http://www.the-bible-antichrist.com/roman-catholic-church-persecution.html The people in the congregation I think are there out of a sense of tradition, obligation. Christian essentially means "follower of Christ". Catholic means "universal"....it has more in common with paganism, than biblical Christianity. Once you start studying scripture....you plainly see all the issues with the RC. I can't believe the crap the pope says. Saying Roman catholics are the same as Christains just because they toss around similar terminology and name drop the Most High, is just like calling a Phillipino the same as Chinese because they both have tan skin, dark hair and asain eyes. They are not the same. Most all Christains reject RC doctrines, dogmas and bloody history and many believe it to be blasphemous and having the anti christ spirit. When you compare the two, the reasons are compelling. If you came into my church...there is nothing catholic in the least. The Mary worship of the rc makes me very uncomfortable....as does the beads and repetitive scripted prayers. It's pharisee like. I'm waiting for this knuckledragging, ignorant cretin Dicky D to even attempt at "slapping me". If it would stop falling on its own contorted mug every post....maybe.

It's Christian in every sense of the word. Unfortunately "born again" Christians don't consider any structured Christian sect "true Christian". They have a similar attitude as the Roman Catholic Church had regarding the pagan people of northern Europe during the dark ages or the break away Protestant sects of the Reformation. If you aren't following the literal word of religious scripture, it's heresy. Unfortunately that is a dangerous attitude and the concept of heresy has been used to commit an untold number of atrocities against the innocent.
IMHO the one God doesn't really exist and as for Christ and the resurrection.....well common wisdom tell us that he was just a man and a regional phenomenon. After his death, some very shrewd people desiring power adopted him as a symbol of there right to lord over entire ignorant populations, (hence the Roman Catholic Church). As the Western Portion of the Roman Empire crumbled a power vacuum in Europe was created and the Roman Church was all too willing to fill that vacuum.
That's how we here in the west got saddled with JC and the Blessed Virgin. But in the end it's Christian enough. The Roman Catholic Church which was first labeled as such in the 2nd century AD. was the first real organized Christian religion on the planet. Until the East–West Schism of 1054, it was the ONLY recognized Christian organization in the world.
But at the same time Dove has the right to believe how she wishes, just as you and I do. So as long as she doesn't push her views on people in an aggressive manner I'm cool with whatever she believes, especially if it her source of spiritual strength. We all lead different lives and we all have different needs; what and how we believe is what makes things interesting.

We all lead different lives and we all have different needs; what and how we believe is what makes things interesting.
To me Renee, it's a big whatever. Pray to Santa Claus for all I care. Religion is harmless. Islam is not a religion though. It's a death cult.
Oh I believe religion is harmless as well. It's the people that practice it that you have to look out for.

If you want to remove the bible from the equation you maybe could call Roman catholism christainity. Hell...why not call Satan "Yeshua" and make everything Christain? Why not? Roman Catholism is about as Christain as hilter.
See the problem people have is the assumption that just because people believe in God and Christ....they are Christain. The devil believes in God. Maybe we can call him Christain. Maybe God was just joking with all the warnings against false teachers and all those Christain martyrs killed by the rc were just minor disagreements.

Dove, in all due respect, the Holy Roman Catholic Church was founded by the early followers of Christ who formed the early christian church in the 1st century AD which in the historical context, makes it Christian. It may not be your "born again version" and you may not agree with the rituals but it is Christian.
The Roman Catholic Church is simply the continuation of the early christian community established by Christ and the bishops are the successors to the apostles. The Pope, is the sole successor to Saint Peter, who was appointed by Christ to be the head of the church in the New Testament. These are the claims of the church in Rome and recorded history bares that out.
Now I'm not here to defend the Catholic Church, I'm just here to explain that history invalidates your claims that it is not a Christian organization. It matters not what the rituals are or how you interpret your scripture because it's the foundations and it's origins that are the determining factors.

*sigh* the first absolutely was not Roman catholic. It was messianic jewish. The apostle Paul was not Roman catholic, nor was Peter. They were messianic JEWS. They were not romans....the romans were gentiles. The book of acts is the record of the first church. You want to see christainity at its most orthodox? Go to a messianic synogauge. Constantine corrupted the Roman church with paganism. Hence why the "Christain" holidays aren't the biblical holidays....but versions of pagan solstice. I know a lot of people think the RC was the first church and I have no idea where they got that idea because it's just not the truth. Do you know that Jesus Christ Himself is the one who said in order to enter the kingdom of heaven, you MUST be born again, and the resurrection was about that? That baptism is about that? You put it in quotes as if it's some silly concept. It's a requirement. No human can born a person again. And it's the actual bible, that pesky word of God, that doesn't agree. You cannot be a follower of Christ and go against the teachings of Christ. That makes you not CHRISTain. And the "holy" church thing....the only one holy is God. A church, a human...cannot be holy. This is bible. People call the pope the "holy father" and that's idolitry and he let's them....which is heresy, not because it's my opinion, but rather because Jesus specifically said NOT to call any man holy father. And Christ is the author of the faith....so his words trump. I'm okay with "my version" if it lines up with Christ's version.
"3 There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him."
3 Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
4 Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?"
5 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit."
9 Nicodemus answered and said to Him, "How can these things be?"
10 Jesus answered and said to him, "Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things? 11 Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness. 12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13 No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.[a] 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
18 "He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. 21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God."

Wrong.......Did I say that the early church was Roman Catholic.......No I didn't. I said that the early church was the root of the Catholic Church and the Catholic Church was the first recognized Christian organization. There is a difference between being a movement of fringe zealots and being a legitimate church. At least there is in civil and modern society.
In truth what you have been taught as the first church wasn't legally recognized or legitimate. And don't give me the argument that your God is the only authority to legitimize a religious organization. Because until the hand of God starts writing civil law he/she/it isn't a legit factor.
Under Roman rule (and at the time, Roman rule is what legally mattered) Christians were just another bunch of rebel Jews and Christianity wasn't recognized as a religion and neither was the early Christian church. According to the ruling authorities in Rome there was no Christian Church until Emperor Galerius ended the Diocletian persecution of Christianity in 311 AD. By then Christianity was a distinctly separate religious sect from Judaism, messianic or otherwise. And it wasn't until the forth century that Christianity was recognized as the state religion in Rome which legitimizes the Roman Church.
In fact I hate to throw a wrench into the mix but it can be argued that "early Christianity" is not Christianity at all but simply another Jewish sect.

Okay you just proved my point. If God is not the ONLY, I repeat, ONLY authority....it is NOT of God therefor is not following Christ. And now we are coming full circle into the difference between being a follower of Christ and being part of a man made structured religion. The only legit church is God's church. It's the body of born again in Christ believers. It's not an organization. There are members of the church (body of Christ) who have never set foot in a religious building. Roman catholics do not follow Christ. They are as Christian as theistic satanist. Christian means follower of Christ. Thats what it means. I dont care who has tried to twist it. It is CHRISTianity. The rc does not follow Christ. They don't even study scripture and they worship mary, ffs. That is not Christain. That is heresy, idolitry....spiritual adultery. It's what apostle Paul spoke of in the Corinthian letter when he was talking about not corrupted from the simplicity of Christ, that he wishes to know nothing of us then Christ and Him crucified. Scripture says, Jesus is the author and finisher of the faith. You go outside of that...it isn't not following Christ. I don't know how much more clear I can make this. If God isn't your only authority in your "religion" you are not a Christain. End of story. Jesus Himself was conside red a zealot, a radical....it what got Him crucified. Christians don't even consider themselves religious. We just get tired of challanging it. Jesus condemned religious people more than anyone. And yes the Jews involved in the movement of Christ, we're Christains. The Catholic Church is not. Period. I don't care what is recognized by human man made institutions. I care about what's set in place by God. Your either using the bible as your authority or your not Christain. It's that simple....regardless of what man considers legit.

[Dove you are very sincere in your belief and I respect you for it but every legitimate theologian and religious scholar outside of your "born again" sect will disagree with you.
Roman Catholics are indeed Christian as are all the protestant religions and it is the Roman Catholic Church that is credited with spreading Christianity throughout Europe and the New World. That is historical fact (reality) and not some revisionist "born again" version of Christianity.
I'm really trying hard to wrap some logic around your belief that some primordial version of Christanity is the ONLY real Christian belief system. But when someone constantly defies reality no matter how much factual historical evidence is presented, it makes it very difficult to take that person seriously. This has been the issue with you fundamentalist Christians, since time immemorial. Your kind is extremely steadfast in your belief system and there is nothing anyone can say that will change your mind. This is not meant to be critical, it is just a statement of fact.
So I'm going to end my involvement here before this debate degenerates into a juvenile, Dinky-esq name calling contest and let's just agree to disagree. ac_biggrin

What would you know of the state of my arteries? One would need access to my medical records to make that kind of determination. AND more importantly, one would need eyes that didn't resemble two bowls of milk to read said medical records.
Once again you took the long way around to call me "fat"; proving my long time assertion that you are nothing but a lot low velocity wind.
Hey, I've never claimed to be able to match your capacity for wind. I happily defer to your obvious superiority in that regard. Fat chicks fart loudest, I've heard it say.
I do not need to read medical records. It does not take a doctor to look at your BFI and know that where there's fat, there's choke. Arteries, in this case.
Nor do I need to be a heart specialist to know that the greater the distance your blood has to travel, the harder the heart has to work.
And I sure as shit don't need to be a psychiatrist to diagnose you as "stupid". The symptoms are on full display.
Oh Dove, how can I take you seriously when you compare Catholics to Satan worshippers?
I don't know how ANYONE can claim correctness or authority on the meaning of a book of fricken parables and metaphors written in a time long since past by various authors, all of which were human men. To say YOU have correctly deciphered this translated book is a tad absurd. I know you'll have some explanation for it but it won't be logical.
Catholics do study scripture. I know this because I went to Catholic school. They even give you your own Bible - the same one Christians thump people with. Shocked?
I don't actually identify myself as a Christain although I'm Catholic because I don't want to be mistaken as a kooky born again. I have nothing wrong with born agains - I did the whole born again youth group thing in high school, I just don't want to be one because they are known for being Christianity cramming weirdos. Nice weirdos but pushy and quick to tell everyone else they're wrong.

That prick told Noah to make the door too so the dinosaurs couldn't get on the boat.
BTW, speaking of great floods, I might be homeless come next Monday. There is a hurricane bearing down on the east coast. Being that I'm only 3 blocks from the ocean, I might be up to my ass in salt water come Monday night.

Look you mummified stoat, don't be projecting your fears of your impending demise on me. You should really be more appreciative of the very, very, very, long life you have lead. I mean how many people can say that they had the first ticket for the first vacation cruise ever? It's just too bad you didn't realize it was animals only before you paid that Jewish guy all your good rocks.
Yeah, well rest assured if god hoses the planet again, you won't be getting on an ark. Even the USS Ronald Reagan would capsize if you tried to board.
Whilst I do appreciate my longevity, it must grate you to know that when your pump gives up the battle, I'll STILL be here. In fact, I might even attend your funeral. I wanna meet THOSE pallbearers.
I will even deliver your eulogy. No...wait...no point.
I'd be the only one there.
Here's the deal, Old Man River; even if your deluded and exaggerated vision of me were accurate, I could always lose weight. I'm no stranger to it. Unfortunately for you, time cannot be shed like unwanted pounds. It marches on toward your end with each click of the second hands on the watches in your collection.
It must suck to be at a point in your life where the chances of your next breath being your last increase exponentially with each passing day.
Truth be told, I actually do hope that I die before I am forced to sit by and watch my once strong and vibrant body decay like so much road kill.
Have a nice day, Methuselah.

If there were THAT much road kill, it would be like Mad Max on your highways.
I have plenty of breaths left, toots. Unlike you, where each breath takes another day from your cardio-vascular system, I'm in fine shape. As you have witnessed.
The only time your body is vibrant is when you're near a train track, and a passing locomotive makes it vibrate like a mountain of jello.
You could at least have some consideration for the poor ambulance crew that will be called to your final gasp. They're going to need a front end loader to get your ass into the ambulance, and a tow truck to get it out. They needed bother with lights and sirens, either...with you in the back, they won't be going over 15 mph.
He's sick Renee. Go easy on him.

So I'm going to end my involvement here before this debate degenerates into a juvenile, Dinky-esq name calling contest and let's just agree to disagree. ac_biggrin
I think our issue here is that you are going on "sects" and religious institutions and I'm going on what the Bible says. I'm not trying to fight with you, but reason with you. there is a reason why Catholic is called catholism....and not Christianity. I haven't heard of one scholar or theologian who doesn't take issue with the pagan practice of the RC. I mean we just had the pope here and not once did he point to Christ. In fact he said he said Christ's life ended in failure at the cross. That sound Christain? There are no sects. It's truth or lies. The RC corrupted the faith and had issues ever since. There are born again Christians in every denomination but the teachings of catholism are so outside of Scripture that no student of theology can even call it Christain. If you investigated this, you'd see it. It's glaringly obvious.

The bible says what it says. It's not at all cryptic. If you have at least a 9th grade reading level you should be fine. It's not hard to understand. The reason I'm saying the RC is pagan is because they have pagan practices. God says you can't worship two masters. Remember that conversation we had about the pope saying women who have had abortions can "now be forgiven"? Well...biblically there is only sin that cannot be forgiven. Biblically no human can forgive sin, and biblically we don't need priests. The RC is what happens when people hyjack the word of God and add to it. We are not supposed to conform the word of God to us, we are supposed to conform to the word of God. And the RC used to kill people who stood up for the word. They actually used to with hold bibles, and still they don't encourage reading scripture. I think it's very telling that the only people that think the bible is cryptic are unbelievers and...catholics. The RC hides and contorts the truth for their agenda. The bible causes problems for people, basically because it convicts everyone and disarms those who seek control. The reasons christains are so passionate about discerning truth from lies is because we know what will happen to a person going into eternity without Christ, and it hurts our hearts. It's as if we are in a burning building and you are standing at the exit yelling at everyone to hurry up...the exit is right here, and watching them stumble around in the smoke ruminating on whether or not the door exists. You almost want to grab them by the hair and pull their stupid asses out.
These are the words of Christ in matthew 7. 13 "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because[a] narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
15 "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.
21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' 23 And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'

There are not different interpretations until you start talking to mormons, catholics or jehova witnesses. Everyone else is unanonmous. People twist it. They do that with anything. I'm shaming them for being heretics and disregarding the Word of GOD.
You're doing it again! I'm not expecting you to agree with their beliefs or even that they're going to heaven, but heretics? I'd hate to know what you think about actual heretics. It's a little ISISy.
Romero, do you even know what heresy is? Thier beliefs are not in line with Christ. Hence why their beliefs are not Christain. Why are struggling with this and flipping out? Are you even a believer?
What flipping out? I'm not a believer, but I know it's not very Christian to call over 1 billion Christians unchristian heretics. That's getting into extremist territory.

Don't quote the first line of a chapter and convienitly leave out the rest. And Jesus rebuked the pharisees all the time. Matthew 7 isn't telling not to judge. It says "judge not, least ye be judged by the same measure" and goes on to explain how to use righteous judgement. Since I'm not operating outside of biblical doctrines and adding to the word of God, I have biblical authority to point out errors in church dogma. You, on the other hand, are being a huge hypocrit. You are judging all over the place based on your narrow mind. On what do you base the ridiculous judgements you lay on my character? Because you don't like my views? Too bad. The bible has more authority than you. Especially when it comes to the faith and how it's defined. You aren't even a believer, so you don't even have a platform here to even know what you are talking about. Prove I'm wrong. Use scripture and compare it to catholic practices. I double dog DARE ya. Hypocrit.
11 Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. 12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account." Hebrews 11-13.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. 2 Timothy

Funny you forget verse 5 of that scripture that says she who judges is in fact a hypocrite herself.
In the Bible, Jesus rebukes a fever, demons, the elements (wind, etc), Simon Peter, James and John (for wanting to rain hellfire on the Samaritans), and his Disciples. No where have I seen it written where Jesus commands that Christains should go around rebuking others.
You mentioned the Pharisees. There is a perfect example on how Jesus felt about shaming (and stoning) sinners in John 8.

Yes, the Bible teaches to rebuke false teaches according to the authority of scripture. We are to make judgements according to the authority of scripture, not our personal opinions or biases. That's what it's teaching. I don't hate catholics. But their teachings go against scripture, so I'm judging that based on what the Bible says....not by my personal feelings. I haven't met a priest that I don't respect. I know saved Christians in the Catholic congregation. Honestly....I think people are so touchy about Christian beliefs that they jump to conclusions. It's the only world view in which outsiders don't take the time to fully understand, yet get defensive and attempt to correct or dictate. Much like shen keeps pointing out, the more Muslims destroy everywhere they go....the more dislike of Christianity there is. It's odd, and prophetic. Do people even really take the time to think about the suggestion that Jesus told to never judge? That would mean we can't even judge our own actions. How are we to repent? Notice in that same chapter He tells us to remove the log from our own eye so we can see clearly to remove the spec from our brothers eye. This is telling us to not use hypocritical judgement. It is not telling us to never judge. Also....we are to speak truth in love. Not do it malisciously. My beliefs are not secular. My beliefs are Christain....it's not a weekend hobby for me. It should be expected that I refer to scripture.

Did you read what I said? Or just make up what I said? Are you assuming I didn't just devote a solid 15 months of nothing but studying this? Jesus never told us to never judge, He taught us HOW to judge. If my word isn't good enough for you....I also have several translations, commentaries and even a few videos for you to chose from. I have scriptures from the epistles about how to properly judge. You can challah get my application all day....I'm pretty confident here. I'm seriously doubting you read what I said. I literally just talked about the log and spec. This is Matthew 7. Let's look at the whole chapter....shall we?
7 "Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. 3 And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove the speck from your eye'; and look, a plank is in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.
6 "Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.
Keep Asking, Seeking, Knocking
7 "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! 12 Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
The Narrow Way
13 "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because[a] narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
You Will Know Them by Their Fruits
15 "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.
I Never Knew You
21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' 23 And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'
Build on the Rock
24 "Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
26 "But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall."
28 And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, 29 for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
Now explain how we are to even know there is a spec in our brothers eye. How do we know who the dogs and pigs are? How do we tell if fruit is bad? Maybe.....judging by the authority of God's Word, and not from our own hypocritical opinions or feelings. If a priest is telling us to pray to Mary, that's idolitry. How do I know that? Well I have several scriptures saying so. That's bad fruit. Do you understand my point yet? If the leader of the church raped you, RW, by your application you can't judge his action as bad, yanno. Because Jesus said don't judge, right? You can't call him a false teacher. Does that sound like the right application to you? The bible isn't a bag of trail mix. If you were a student of theology, youd be aware of a term called "full treatment". Scripture backs scripture. You have to take the whole chapter, not just the sentences that support your thinking.

Ummm....no where did I suggest they would. You are missing my point and adding to what I'm saying on purpose? I can say killing people is wrong, without thinking killers have to answer to me. Okay let me clarify, unrepentant religious people who practice idolitry are going to answer to God. Biblically Christains are commanded to speak the truth. Even if it hurts people's feelers. Do you remember the verses about being the salt of the earth? Salt adds flavor. It is also an irritant. It's not Christains anyone will be accountable to. Its God. You can't tell anything. Your entire life has been encompassed in a string of one bad decision to the next.
But you're right. I have moved on. Pointing out your stupidity, while fun from time to time, is ultimately redundant and only good for a jab or laugh at your expense.
So carry on, Christian whorarrior, carry on. Don't let reality or logic stop you now. You've come so far despite either ac_biggrin of them.
:001_rolleyes:
I don't mind you, Fash. You're quite nice and accepting of others and you never call others pagans, heretics, or hell bound.
Maybe Dove is just doing it wrong? ac_biggrin
Let me ask you a question. Does it matter what she feels about you or do you think so highly of your own approval (that no one needs or asks for) that you are oblivious to the fact that you completely disrespect her on her board left and right every time you slam Christains?
Maybe I'm only slamming false Christians like you and Fash is biting her tongue, eh? ac_smile
I've got not one word of negativity towards Fash, Christian or not, she's got a good heart and is widely respected for good reason.
You should study up on Fash and try to be more like her, Dove.
Fash leads by example. She doesn't crack everyone over the head with the Bible.

And Dove, those Mary praying Catholics will answer to God, not you. Do you not understand that?
Ummm....no where did I suggest they would. You are missing my point and adding to what I'm saying on purpose? I can say killing people is wrong, without thinking killers have to answer to me. Okay let me clarify, unrepentant religious people who practice idolitry are going to answer to God. Biblically Christains are commanded to speak the truth. Even if it hurts people's feelers. Do you remember the verses about being the salt of the earth? Salt adds flavor. It is also an irritant. It's not Christains anyone will be accountable to. Its God. And that should terrify people, really.
Funny it doesn't terrify me. My God isn't a terrifying God.

I believe the phrase most commonly used is "bible thumping".
Fash doesn't do any of that.
If I had to follow Christianity, I'd take far more leads from Fash than I would from Dove.
Fash is like my elderly in laws. They don't push and they don't judge. They just do their thing with their grandchildren and I have to admit, it's good shit.
I know many Christians who are like Fash. They will talk about scripture if asked but the rest of the time, they just act like really decent, awesome people.

They're off do-gooding IRL.
The Dove types are way more fun to talk to on the internet though. I wouldn't trade her in :)

So YOU can decide who is a false Christain based on YOUR ideas of what a Christain should act like. Hahahaha. Just like you can slam the faith ad nauseum but I decide to defend it....I'm "bible thumping". We are called to be like Christ, btw. And He pissed off so many people He was crucified. You have to be one of the most uncouth, intellectually lazy and bigoted person I've met on boards lately. I'm still decent to you.

I like when people push you into defending your beliefs and cry like kicked puppies when you actually do. They always play the "bible thumping" card lol. They want free reign to bash it, and expect you to sit there and take it. Then they tell you how to Christian. It's ridiculous.

Lol what? A bit melodramatic, don't you think? Bible thumping is when you are nagging someone using scripture. Not when you refer to it in order to show the difference between biblical Christianity and religions with christain terminology.
I read this whole thread and took particular interest in the rejection of Catholicism as a Christian faith.
Despite her humorous inability to spell Christian, Dove makes a well reasoned and well supported argument for why she believes what she does. It is clear that she has studied the issue and in my opinion, there are no discernible gaps in her arguments beyond complete rejection of the doctrine, at which point the argument ceases to be relevant (as per Shen's comments).
As she says, in many ways, the Catholic church does not follow and in fact contradicts the teachings of Christ and of the Bible. It is reasonable for someone who takes a more orthodox approach to say that this precludes them from being Christians and I see no reason why she should not be well within her rights to do so. The Catholic church's historical role in developing and propagating the religion is undeniable and to me, it seems a bit petty to deny them as Christians, but it is justifiable.
I also learned a little bit more of the context (and frequent erroneous use) of the "Judge not lest ye be judged" phrase.
Anyway, it has been an interesting discussion.
My phones autocorrect feature is bat poop crazy and changes my spelling to the point where I've given up. My kids do stuff on my phone, so things happen. I find it amusing how it always capitalizes Crack. Haha. But thank you. Matthew 7 verse 1 is the most notoriously misused verse in the bible. It's like the secular ninja move....taken out if context to justify sin or "win" and argument. But it simply doesn't mean we are to never judge.

The thing with the bible is it's a translation from earlier versions. I don't know if it was mentioned in this thread. To understand it you should be reading in the original language (whatever that is), the original version. Translations alter meaning when there aren't words to trade directly, and for other reasons.

I looked it up. Google has a ..... I don't know what it's called, quick answer thing, that says part of it, the old testament, was oral teachings that were recorded in Hebrew and Aramaic and the new testament was written in Greek.
Here's a link: //http://www.biblicalarchaeology.org/daily/biblical-topics/bible-versions-and-translations/the-original-bible-and-the-dead-sea-scrolls/
Quote
Bible scholars examined two ancient texts to elucidate the original language of the Bible: the Masoretic Text and the Septuagint. The Masoretic Text is a traditional Hebrew text finalized by Jewish scholars around 1000 C.E. The Septuagint is a Greek translation of the Torah created by the Jews of Alexandria in the third century B.C.E. (The other books of the Hebrew Bible were translated over the course of the following century.)

I do. Have a study bible with greek/hebrew. I also have a Torah. Aramaic is ancient hebrew. Hermeneutics is something anyone who studies needs a decent grasp of.

I hope you graduate on to different subjects. If you're willing to go that deeply - you could learn a lot - really have some good experiences.
When I approached this I wasn't looking for religion. I wanted to know God. So I'm a biblist. I am never disappointed.
If you wanted to know about a god why didn't you just kill yourself and get the express train to afterlifeville?
Weird logic but meh, whatever.
I tried. I woke up in rehab. Lol.

You learned some skills on how to be a scholar. You are willing to delve deeply into subjects. There may be more subjects that you like. No matter what, you'll benefit from learning deeply about some things. It'd be really cool if you did/do study other things closely.
This is how I handle every topic I get into. I'm an intense person.
