Do people actually put Christmas Decorations up before Nov. 12th. :confused1:

Here in the US, people usually start decorating the weekend after Thanksgiving which is usually the 3rd weekend in the month of November. Personally I think even that's like a week or two early.

Too late. My neighbor has decorated hers already. Her tree is lit and sits by her window.

We don't Renee, but it does happen..

I never gave it any thought, but it is not good to have decorations up before Christmas.

My condo strata rules actually make sense in this one regard...

Outside Christmas lights can only be up from Dec. 1 to Jan. 15.  This is one rule I can live with...

Don't know about Alberta, but here in BC condos have stratas.  I'm assuming AB is the same.  You may be seeing rental apartment blocks, which are different.

Strata rules dictate what an owner can do outside of their dwelling, to put it simply.  Many townhouses are strata governed also, as are gated communities and such.

From what you have said, we would call that condo rules.

Yanks call it HOA rules.  Canada calls it Strata rules.

Same shit, different pile.

When I win the lottery, this place will be rented out for income, and I will be sitting by the babbling brook in the back of my 20 acres...

I don't think many Albertans would know what strata rules are Ace.

They do.  Just had to Google it.

In Alberta, it's known as the "condominium corporation."

QuoteThe Condominium Property Act and the Condominium Property

Regulation set out the rules for operating and managing condominiums

in Alberta.

What I meant Ace is we do not call it strata, that I'm aware of..

We have the same thing, but the term you used would not be commonly known I think.

Our family always  decorated Xmas eve  .. a very special time for all of us .,... woke up to it next morning ... and New Years was take down and pack up day, another special time - and we all loved it that way ... simple, genuine, fun and meaningful

"Strata"  is used a lot in BC - all areas have similar setup but maybe different term for it

YES!!!!!

My Prussian grandmother had us over on Xmas eve .. and spoiled me rotten

What a special time it was - she had a lifesize Santa in a chair she filled with newspapers just before we arrived

All under the dour portrait of  Bismarck (I think it was)

The idea being, we're too god damned hungover on Christmas day to deal with 06:00 wake-up call.

German method works better...

Also, to do it properly, one must burn real candles on the real or fake tree.  Sounds dangerous, and it could be.  The tree candle holders have been outlawed for sale here for years, but many are still kicking around.

You can still buy them in Germany.

It's a small 'cup' that holds a mini-candle, and clips to tree branches.  These are lit on the tree.

Our outside lights stay on year round, but we decorate the last Saturday in November and we turn on our Christmas tree lights and outside lights starting December 1.

It seems that way but if it makes them happy then I am happy for them. What is also sad to me is when their tree remains up and is not put away as far as June.  :laugh3:
