Russian jets allegedly flew into Turkish airspace whilst on a bombing mission in Syria.
One was shot down by the Turkish Air Force. One pilot was killed, and during the rescue mission, two more Russians were killed and one helicopter shot down by Syrian rebel forces.
Russia is pissed, although they should be reminded about Malaysian Airlines MH17 and Korean Airlines 007.
The Muddled East is becoming a wasteland for reason, common sense, unity and rationality.

The whole area is complex and not understood by anyone other than Putin who knows what he wants (to keep Assad in power)

The NATO charter is quite specific. "An attack on one NATO country will be considered to be an attack on all NATO countries".
Russia was dumb to fly their jets so close to Turkey's border, a border they declared they would protect with all force available to them.
But Russia's planes offered no threat to Turkey, and their alleged flyover was over a small sliver of land that protrudes into Syria.
A case of two fools meeting...but each armed with massive military firepower, either directly or by proxy (NATO).
