Drinking three to five cups of coffee a day could help people live longer, new research has found.
According to the study conducted by Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee can lower the risk of death from cardiovascular disease, neurological disease such as Parkinson's, type 2 diabetes and even suicide.
Ming Ding, the PhD student who headed the research, said: "Bioactive compounds in coffee reduce insulin resistance and systematic inflammation.
"That could explain some of our findings. However, more studies are needed to investigate the biological mechanisms producing these effect."
Mr Ding also led a study in 2013 that suggested moderate consumption of caffeine lowered the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Ah fuck. I thought it said 5 mojitos a day might make you live longer. :sneaky2:
5 cups a day?
Christ, I drink at least 4 cups between 6 AM and noon.
I like to hear this but I'm good with one cup a day.

I like hot chocolate or tea, but my husband likes good strong coffee.
I'd be seizuring!
I have two cups in the morning each with a cigarette. Then another in the afternoon along with a smoke.
I do about 6 double espressos a day, so I'm good to go.
I'll think about you guys fondly while savoring espressos in my old age ac_smile

Six double espressos a day? That is a lot of high octane joe. Who needs energy drinks.
Actually, I did some research a ways back. While espresso is high on flavor, it is between 1/3 and 1/2 the caffeine
So a double is actually less caffeine that a regular coffee
I was surprised but pleased to find that out as I'm espresso for life after my conversion
I think it's the flavor / taste explosion that makes one think it is strong stuff

Who would have thought that. I am going to stop at the Second Cup tomorrow on my way to the office for a triple shot of espresso. ac_drinks
lol ... with a clear conscience
We bought an espresso machine that is notoriously good with cappuccino - cap being our desire and motive at that time
It did cap great, then one day I tried it straight up espresso and found it even better than cap.
It's not much harder to make that using any single cup coffee machine that works with ground beans (not pods)
Cappuccino is a bit more work as one must froth the milk, but still not difficult or lengthy to do with the right machine and a little practice

The only way to drink espresso is with a shot of anisette or sambuca poured in it. The only thing is I'm not sure you can or should drink 5 of those a day. ac_biggrin
sambuca is great with it, as is Drambuie - although I prefer the liqueur alongside in its own glass - in evening
daytime I'll stick to espresso
I do love sambuca. It is good and loaded with Italian tradition and espresso beans
copy paste to get the traditions right > The most iconic serving of sambuca is a shot with seven coffee beans, representing the Seven hills of Rome.
Likewise, a shot with one coffee bean, called con la mosca, which means "with the fly", is as common.
When served with three coffee beans, each is said to represent health, happiness and prosperity; or the Holy Trinity.[3][5]
The shot may be ignited to toast the coffee beans with the flame extinguished immediately before drinking

I might buy an espresso machine now that I know it does not have the caffeine I thought it did.

You can buy espresso for regular coffee makers, but I doubt it would taste the same as with a real espresso machine.
True - It needs the high pressure pumping action
Here's Kicking Horses take on it CAFFEINE MYTHS: ESPRESSO VS. DRIP (//https)
If you like cappuccino, the De Longhi has the patent on the best by far frother + makes great espresso

One 2 oz double espresso shot has about 80 milligrams of caffeine.
Whereas a 12 oz brewed coffee has about 120 milligrams.
So per ounce, espresso has more caffeine.
per ounce of "finished" liquid, assuming one uses only the traditional 2 oz of water espresso.
However, the water quantity is optional. During the day for example I use a medium cup so get lots of total liquid & still lots of espresso taste
I only do the "traditional" 2 oz water / shot routine once / day, maybe after dinner for a strong brew - and always brew a double shot no matter how much water
No matter how much water is used for a double shot espresso (2 oz or a big cup full), the total caffeine is the same and it is still less caffeine per cup than regular coffee ... and for me it seems a lot more tasty even with a large amount of water
I always loved regular coffee, but since getting into espresso I would never go back now. Have never felt a buzz with it no matter how much I have

I'm afraid so. I'm addicted lol
A band of us hockey Moms would buy a cup of coffee each right before every game, sit together, and let Mrs. So and So pass her bottle of Bailey's (wrapped in a brown paper bag) and we'd pour just as much as desired in our coffee and thank her with a grin, a nod, and a raised cup, heheh. Good times. Those were the days. The hockey mom who brought the bottle is a lawyer and she also plays hockey and is quite competitive. She was a firecracker, that one.

I assume that would apply to a host of things from high fat food to salt to sugar.
I'm sure coffee is fine , it's the shit people put in it is what's bad, like creamer, whip cream, artificial sweeter etc..
I'm never gonna die. Lol

I put a bit of raw sugar in it along with organic cinnamon. It's basically ground up coffee beans that you cook in that little pot. It's pretty strong. I'm a third shifter though...so I don't mess around.

It can probably be said that adout 80% of us are actively trying to kill ourselves whether we know it or not. So genetics be damned.

Yes, and chocolate, red wine, and bacon, as well.

Aren't we? Everything that can be considered good for our health is conditional, and if it's not helping us, it's probably another form of slow death... from the air we breathe to the water we drink.

Modern day Christmas traditions in Ireland are similar to the traditions practiced all over the UK.
A notable tradition is the hanging of wreaths on the door of your home. That tradition originated in Ireland and traditionally the wreath is made of holly, not pine.
The real Christmas traditions in Ireland are pagan and they surround the Yule holiday which is the winter solstice. They include the burning of the Yule log, the hanging of mistletoe, etc.
"Nollaig Shona Duit": pronounced as 'null-ig hun-a dit'. is Gaelic for "Happy Christmas".
Yep. But we do none of that.
