A native Australian parrot; the aptly named Rainbow Lorrikeet. The seem to love the tree on our fenceline.
A very beautiful bird.

That would be so awesome Crow. When I worked in South America I would see flocks of giant Amazon parrots flying over my camp.

You guys have stunningly beautiful song birds.

I think I saw that breed of parrot in a pet store recently. Do you have cockatoos in your part of Australia?

Yes. Cockatoos are widespread, although only the white variant live in semi-urban areas. Black cockatoos only live in the bush. Some are very rare, and seeing a pair (they are always in pairs) in the outback is a real excitement. They aren't rare, but infrequent.

				Quote from: "Mr Crowley"
Black cockatoos? I didn't know. Isn't affirmative action a wonderful thing. :laugh3:

Well, they are a minority, heavily protected, and don't mix with the whites.

				A yellow variety...

I did not know that Crow. I prefer the whites and it is not because I am a prairie redneck. :laugh3:

Whites are legion here. If you were sitting on our rear porch, I could guarantee you a white in an hour.
We have one that nests nearby, and the first time I saw it, I thought it was a B52 doing a low pass. His wingspan was at least a metre!!!
Actually, I'll snap a white in the next day or so and show you.

I might be in Costa Rica by then, but I will take a look when I get back.

				OK.
And we expect pictures from CR as well!!!
Especially the surf chicks.
And remember your age.

What about the front of your house?  Don't you have any fun song birds in the bushes there?

That photo was crapped up by Flickr for some reason...here's the correct version...

Its the side of the house that gives out to the open fields, where the birds frolic, fly and fornicate. The front opens out to the road. Birds generally don't hang out on the roadway.
Australian birds like trees.
They're funny that way.

				Oh really.
Strange.

				A better view...

				Go bag me one.

				And then what?
Mail it to you?
This is the list of birds that can be legally exported;
Sulphur-crested cockatoo (Cacatua galerita)
Galah (Eolophus roseicapillus)
Little corella (Cacatua sanguinea)
Long-billed corella (Cacatua tenuirostris)
Cockatiel (Nymphicus hollandicus)
Budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulatus).
The rainbow lorikeet doesn't get a mention.
And either way, I don't have a licence.
Also, I have no idea how to safely catch one. They are fast little fuckas.

				Lazy.

				I can't fly, nor run at about 80 km/h!!!

				Like I said, lazy.

				Oh, yeah.
Tell you what I'll do.
I'll trade you a rainbow lorikeet for a baby black bear.

Um, not a fair trade.  One has lethal implications.  Your bird does not.

				Quote from: "RW"
OK.
1 rainbow lorrikeet and 1 taipan for 1 black bear cub.

				I don't want a taipan.

				But it has lethal implications...

How about a taz devil or platypus or blue ring octopus?

				Quote from: "RW"
How about you just smarten up and leave it alone. Send him the fucking cub. In fact throw in the mother bear too. He'll get everything he is asking for and more when he opens the crate. :laugh3:
If that idiot Steve Irwin was any indication of how an Aussie handles dangerous wild animals, my only regret is I won't be there to film his final moments.

Well he'll have to wait until spring because the bears are hibernating.  Actually, before they wake up would be a good time to klepto a baby.

Can they be trained to talk Mr. Crowley.

				No.
Only budgerigars, galahs and cockatoos will mimick words.
Of those, only budgies are permitted to be kept as pets.

				You have parrots though, correct?

				They are all parrots.

				Well now I feel stupid.

Cockatoos can be kept as pets here.

Yes, they are on the permitted list for export.
What is so perplexing is that people think its OK to take these wonderful and beautiful creatures that live to fly free and put them in cages.
Would you send over bear cubs to us so we can cage them for our amusement?

If it kept them out of my garbage...

You live in their woods. Its their garbage.

A friendly little bird.

Yes, they are easily tamed and quite pretty.

Oh I love these photos Twenty Dollars..
Do you know where this picture was taken?

Macaws are native to South America...Brazil, I think.

				Quote from: "Mr Crowley"
From wiki it says they extend from Mexico South through Central and South America..
They used to be in the Caribbean islands too.

I always use "South America" to cover anything south of the US.
I once called a Mexican lady a South American, and she was quite indignant.
