Awww great video of Chips, Fash. I once heard a Mama growling when daughter and I came too close to her den (without realizing) The next day my daughter actually saw the Mama and her 3 babies. Sadly the underbrush where they lived was destroyed to make way for transit  We seen them in our area now and then still.

I kinda disagree, koalas are stupid looking. Like most creatures from Oz they look like they are put together with unrelated mismatched parts. They're also Incredibility stupid but what can you expect from a creature that nurses it's young on what comes out of its own asshole.
Isn't it odd how so many incredibly dumb, disgusting, asshole lickers come from Australia? Didn't we throw one out of here not too long ago? ac_umm

You have a lot in Vancouver GrAnnie?
I have never seen one in Calgary.
We've got all sorts of wildlife. Raccoons are common, especially around garbage dumpsters. Every year we see a bear and usually a cub. We've had a cougar howling just outside our yard a few years ago and I've seen a skunk wandering around as well. Oh and we see deer and coyotes all the time too. The coyotes will come right up to you and want to be pet. My daughter had a wolf come right up to her one time as well.

Western Calgary has lot of wildlife too GrAnnie....deer, moose, elk, coyotes, black bears and occasionally grizzlies and cougars.

I've got some thick skin. It's not the first time someone from the Internet said something hateful to me, and it's probably not gonna be the last either. I highly doubt he would have the nerve to say it to my face in real life....so....let the hateful cowards do what they need to do.
I agree, Dove, most people wouldn't have the guts to say shit to your face. If I've had someone say to me personally rather than online, I'd probably punch their face in. Sooo, I guess it's a good thing they can hide behind a screen lol

What can you really do to a person like that? Look at the amount of venom you have to have to even think like that. That's a nasty miserable person. Wounded. They say, "hurt people, hurt people." Pity is more appropriate than anger. Shake your head, and let them be on thier way with that bullshit.

I had a pair of cockatiels 25 or so years ago. The male was a little a hole, he would attack her and rip her feathers out. She was a sweetheart and would lie in your hand upside down and loved belly rubs. She would coo and bat her eyes. She would say "hello" and "pretty bird, I'm a pretty bird" while he would whistle and screech. lol

They are strange beasts. That one is quite young (you can tell by the size), but for some reason they will approach humans if they are in distress...usually because they need a drink. There are a number of pics of koala's botting water...one of the most famous...

I don't know about anyone else, but I can't tell it's age by it's size. I would've guessed it was full grown.
You can see the difference in size between the two...koalas grow slowly so size is a good indicator of age.

I've seen koi ponds that are heated just enough to keep them from freezing. They put electric immersion heats in them during the winter or for very large ponds.....a pool heater system. Unfortunately where you are it would be extremely costly to run the any kind of heater based on electricity. With the sub zero temps up there any heater would be running balls to the wall and your electric meter would be spinning like a pinwheel.
Actually Renee I had a woman in my office that had a Koi pound all year round. They used what you explained but used solar panels and batteries to run and store power.
If I remember right she also had a pump to move the water to keep it from freezing over.
I'm sure it would need constant care..

Probably a lot more than what Fash was wanting to spend. She's practically a bag lady and her family gets all their grub delivered from the Salvation Army ya know.
Koi ponds can actually freeze over. They just need to be deep enough to leave some water like 5ft deep. The fish will be fine if you have an aerator going (cheaper than heating) or just punch a hole in the ice. The issue is getting them oxygen.

I like koi ponds very much, but I would only have one if they are like the ones in Taiwan with lush green settings, not snow and ice.
