Title: Welcome to Domestic Bliss
Post by: Ms.Min on January 04, 2016, 06:11:33 PM
This is a sub-forum where you can post recipes, fashion links, life hacks, must know URLs, make-up, home decorating, gardening, cleaning, etc.  You know, Martha Stewart shit.  :)

Feel free to ask questions or post useful information.

Enjoy!

That and separating the unpopped kernels were the only tricks I knew..

We use an air popper though....it's a healthier way to make popcorn.

Well a cpl of years ago he decided to please yogurt moi by making the real thing at home

First few batches were sloppy ... taste ok, but soft

About to give up on the idea, but invested in an incubator and past effort, he added the mix at considerably higher temp than directions stated as essential. Still takes it over 180 F on heating, but doesn't cool it as far as stated.

All mixes are unique, but rule of thumb would be if it says cool to 80 & add mix, try 110 F

Since he discovered this, every single batch (1 per wk) is thick and delicious  - he makes 2 quart batches

OH, and lately he tried 3 x 5 gram packs of mix instead of 2 - wowzers, is it goooood

For the amount of yogurt my family eats it's more practical if I just buy it.

I understand. And if one buys on sale, it's not too bad price-wise and some taste pretty good

The flavor and the good for you things in it is no comparison. Problem with commercial stuff is they have to deactivate the good stuff so that it keeps from factory to home. I know some say extra probiotics, but what they have to do to make it not go bad kills much or most of the good things in it. There is no way around that.

He has learned how to speed the making it process greatly and takes about 1/2 hr start to finish now

I would sell my soul for what he makes so I do .... It earns him "favors" .. a fun game we have

For me its win / win  :sneaky2:

I have never tried home made yogurt, so I cannot say..

We don't buy enough from the supermarket to make it cost effective to invest in an incubator..

But maybe if we had some delicious home made yogurt we might change our minds.

Yes. It's all in the taste test + nutrition

Hey. I've used commercial most of my life .. .always an essential for me. It's only the last cpl of years I've experienced the real thing

It has become a "luxurious" part of our lives of late  ... just the 2 of us now and time to do things we could not before .. .a lot like taking a bit more time to make only espresso correctly and every time now, another relatively new luxury in our lives,

When your kids are grown, you and your mate might take time for the good stuff, lol

Like THAT would happen.

It would require physical effort that is some way beyond typing on a keyboard.

Don't worry Methuselah, I expend plenty of effort and energy in a given day. You can count on that.

I think you are just a little upset because unlike you, I can take a break from my busy schedule, sit down to rest and not have to worry about someone coming along and throwing dirt on me. :laugh3:

Use shower caps while in the bathtub to prevent water and soap from getting into their ears or eyes.

For a dog who loves to tear apart stuffed animals, make a durable activity ball with a Hol-ee rubber ball, scraps of fabric, and treats.

(//%3C/s%3E%3CURL%20url=%22https://img.buzzfeed.com/buzzfeed-static/static/enhanced/webdr01/2013/6/18/16/enhanced-buzz-32405-1371588709-21.jpg%22%3E%3CLINK_TEXT%20text=%22https://img.buzzfeed.com/buzzfeed-stati%20...%20709-21.jpg%22%3Ehttps://img.buzzfeed.com/buzzfeed-static/static/enhanced/webdr01/2013/6/18/16/enhanced-buzz-32405-1371588709-21.jpg%3C/LINK_TEXT%3E%3C/URL%3E%3Ce%3E)

Once your dog has removed all of the fabric from the ball, you can stuff the scraps right back in!

Run a dryer sheet over your dog's fur when there's a storm — chances are, they aren't freaked out about the storm but the static electricity built up in their fur.

You can use diatomaceous earth (pool filter sand) to achieve the same thing.

You can also use it as a flea powder. Anything with a exoskeleton (insects) is repelled by diatomaceous earth.

Interesting. Will try it in micro.

When we motor-homed summers we always soaked the entire thing for a cpl of hrs to wet it throughout - and placed on BBQ (May I be stuck dead if I ever use the embarrassing Aussie term for BBQ)

It became easy to pull the chafe off and was as tasty as anything can be
