I was not expecting a welcome. That's an unexpected and pleasant surprise.

I will contribute when I can and what I can. But right now, I have to take a fifteen minute break. I will be back tonight.

I am a locomotive engineer for CP. I have been with the company for almost 26 years. My wife is a nurse.

We love camping and travel. We get a lot of use out of our trailer. I plan to put up a new wooden fence around my yard. The old chain link has given up the ghost. I also like fishing and watching hockey.

My reason for registering is to read and contribute a laugh or an argument. Depending on my mood and whether I have eaten or not.

Welcome iron horse hockey. You are the first person I have ever talked with that drives trains. That is a young boy's dream job.

Can I shorten your handle down a bit? Perhaps ihj or jockey? You can make a suggestion.

I live close to a CP's Keith yard..

My husband often gets frustrated when trains block the crossing when they do their shuffling....I don't know what you call it..

His frustration is not personal.

Thanks jockey. You guys would be good at mazes. When I look at a huge CN yard I know, I wonder how they can possibly locate a car without a radio collar.

Every train has paperwork for every car. When the conductor and I set off a single car or a cut the paperwork tells us exactly which track to put it in.

Your dad worked in engineering services? We in the running trades have a love hate relationship with that department. If a conductor twists his ankle walking on uneven ballast, we blame the section. But we do appreciate their compliance with rule 110.

A weekend, what is that? I get about 10 trips in per month. Once I have reached 3800 miles I am off until the start of the next month. I book 24 hours rest after a trip though.

One freight train can go from Vancouver to Montreal but they change out crews at each terminal.

Hi new member  :JC_howdy:  I'm Annie and just became a first time Grandma a little over a month ago. I live within a mile from train tracks in the lower mainland B.C. I love the sounds they make when running and the whistle/horn.  I think it's to warn all the wildlife near the tracks because we have a lot of bear, deer, coyotes, bobcats etc in the area.  Do you have any interesting train stories to tell?

I went with my Grandmother as a kid from Vancouver to  Saskatchewan. I remember walking to the correct car and passing a guy's big ol butt smushed up against the glass from the bathroom compartment..... :laugh3:

I only drive freight trains. Though I was loaned out to Rocky Mountaineer when I did training in Calgary.

The 4 whistle 1 horn blasts are a legal requirement before crossings. Nothing to do with wildlife.

CN has that too, but it's 35%. My Daddy owns quite a bit of CN stock from when he worked for them.
