The Nova Scotia native was arrested early Friday morning on Hollywood Boulevard, and was released on $20,000 bail.
Police haven't released details of the charge against Smith, but he has issued a news release, along with the woman involved in the incident identified as Georgia Ling, in which they both explain the arrest stems from a misunderstanding.
"Georgia is a friend of mine and we had a loud and heated dispute," Smith said in the statement. "That is all. At no time did I assault her. I am not guilty of the misdemeanour charged against me."
Ling said the two had a heated argument and someone who overheard them called police.
"Mike and I did indeed have a heavy argument but it saddens me the way things are being reported and the way it was handled by the police," Ling said in the statement.
This happened a few days ago.

I don't think he did any damage. Then again Jian Ghomeshi looks about as frightening as Ned Flanders.
