Title: Why is Everything So Small?
Post by: Annie on April 11, 2016, 01:48:13 AM
For the most part everywhere when I shop or look online for deals there's usually a problem with finding my size. I'm a medium or even a large depending on where it's made. Whenever I'm shopping for a shirt, dress, shoes etc everything is mostly small. It's pretty rare to find a good deal on an actual proper size.  If it says medium, it's still fits like a small! I'll be browsing a rack of nice tops on sale and what do ya know? All the "normal" sizes are all gone, of course. Usually all that's left are size friggin barbie doll!  :t1929:  Same thing for shoes, there's dozens of a certain shoe in size 7 or 8 and even a few in 9 but try to find a size 10? It's a hit and miss finding a size 10 in a shoe I actually like  acc_angry

It's because they are popular sizes.

I feel your pain Annie!

Also the clothes are made by 10 year old slaves so what you call small actually looks like extra large to them.   ac_unsure

If fabric wasn't so damn expensive now I'd make my own darn clothes.

What country is that happening in easter bunny? My understand is that China has cracked down on small factories using child labour. I do not know about the other big garment making nations such as Bangladesh. It would not surprise me if they are using kiddie labour.

Isn't that sad that it costs more to make clothes than buy them?

I have the same problem in plus sizes. I'm right in the most popular size category. I can find tons of stuff bigger or smaller but in my size, the selection is always limited. When I was much heavier I had a better chance of finding what I need,....go figure.

That's why I do most of my clothes shopping online. I have a better chance of finding what I want in stock but then I run the risk of not having it not fit right and then I have to go to the store and return it. So it's a pain in the ass either way.

As for shoes, I generally don't have a problem. A 61/2w or 7 is easy to find.

The old lady is small, but curvy. She says the small sizes in Saskatchewan are for little boys. No room for hips.

I like wearing tight jeans, but it's difficult because I have 40 inch hips and a small waist. Well, I did nine months ago.

Oh, even ordering online can be iffy, have to always use the size chart because sizes here compared to China, England etc are different. I bought a jacket for my cousin, a size large. When it came it fit more size medium. They didn't have a size chart or whatever. My daughter saw me packaging it back up to return when she tried it on and it fit her. It looked very good on her so I let her have it.

I often try something on in a store and then order online. However, if I the brand well, I will buy it online without trying it on.

This is my family Annie. No more babies for me. I wanted my son to have a sibling. I never had a brother or sister and always wanted one.

I hope for your sake, your daughter is not pregnant either.

Thanks, Fash. It's how I'm feeling right now. Our old kitty girl has fast growing cancer and is being put down on Wednesday. We had a tumor removed from her neck last month and thought it was just a cyst , non cancerous or that we caught it in time.  But now there's a bunch more growing fast and multiplying. The last 2 days she can't control her bladder or bowls, weight loss.  ac_crying  She was healthy right up to last month. This came on really fast.

This is the first cat we'll have to put down. It's the only thing we can do for her so she won't suffer. It looks like the tumors are going to her brain, I looked in her ears and on the ride side was pretty scary. She's actually our son's cat. He rescued her when she was 9 months. He's coming over tomorrow to say goodbye to her before we take her in. He doesn't know if he wants to go with us. I have no idea if he or our daughter would be ok after that.

So sorry Annie, it's never easy to put down a pet, been there, done that and it sucks really hard every time. But ending their suffering at life's end is actually a gift that we can give our furry family members that we cannot give to our human ones. ac_crying

I miss her terribly but I know I did the right thing for her. I'm starting to stop feeling guilty of not doing this or that. We had her cremated and have her ashes in a little marble urn. The day she was put down, both my daughter and I had a dream that she was happy and that she was thankful for us setting her free from suffering.  Our old boy, Roger (he's about 22) was visibly bothered that she wasn't here now. He didn't eat for days and lost a lot of weight. He's finally eating enough now but is acting weird still. He talks a lot more and always wants attention. Our other kitty who is a great big guy (5) now jumps onto my lap and sits with me. He didn't do that before, only Patches ever did that. I think he was comforting me.  Each day is a little better.  We also had her paw print made onto a plaque but it isn't ready yet.

Yep Seoulbro, we do. He's almost 23. He has cataracts, has arthritis and mostly deaf but otherwise very healthy.  He's indoor only as our other cats as well. I do all they're grooming needs. clip all their nails, clean their ears with mineral oil, de-shed them (I can literally make a small blanket from all the shedding hair!) and brush their teeth with little kitty tooth brushes. They're also spoiled. They get their regular hard food but for breakfast and dinner they get soft food. They get treats for being good or just cute and they have a toy box. They like to leave their toys in our shoes, in our bed, by our doors lol They get new toys each month and cat nip. We have a huge climbing thing they can rest, play, watch outside and scratch on. They have a play mat with grooming posts and we taught Sparta (our great big 5 yr old) to jump through the kitty tube/tunnel and hoop.  We have lots of posts for them to scratch on wherever they are and a wooden shelf I let them scratch on. This saves the couch and the stairs from being shredded lol

So cats live a lot longer than dogs do? I always thought they lived about 12-14 years like a dog.

I think it depends on the breed, whether it's indoor or outdoor, what you feed them etc. My sister in law had a cat who lived to be 27.

Quote from: "Annie"Yep Seoulbro, we do.

Growing up we always had dogs. My dad was always coming home with a retired police dog.....Dobermans or German Shepards. They usually lived to be around 11 or 12 on average. I believe that the stress working police dogs have to endure, takes its toll on them later in life.

But we also had a family dog that lived to be just shy of 20. It was a little Pomeranian named Toby. He was 2 when I was born and he died in his sleep during my senior year in HS.

Lifespan of most dogs and cats depends on breed, genetics, living conditions and to some degree....dumb luck.

I'm sort of a cat lover. This guy is Martine. Old GF left him here years ago. We've become good pals. He cost me about $75. per mo. He rules the house hold.

I have had work dogs and they usually did not live real long lives. Little house dogs seems to last longer.

Likewise, in my experience from having dogs most of my 60 years, the small little yappy things live long lives, while the larger dogs tend to develop health problems after 10-12 years or so that shorten their lives. Hip dysplasia, organ failure, etc. Very sad, as I am a true sucker for a big dog. Big dogs are usually, but not always, sweethearts while the little yappers are sometimes too feisty for their own good.

Our cat has never been to the vet and because it an indoor cat does not get flea medicine or claws clipped.

Baths? I spray him with a hose. Food is the kibble I buy from the farm supply. Grooming? I don't even groom myself.

He is on my farm to work and not be a pet.

I spoil the bejesus out of my dog and she loves me to death.

I have her on a wellness plan at the local vets. My checkups are free, any out of the ordinary stuff is usually free, flea and heartworm meds are free. I get two free nail grindings a year, the others cost $14 per visit. I get her nails ground, not clipped. They can get a closer trim, plus the edges are very smooth. I buy her toys and snacks like beef bones and jerky and balls and such all the time. My dogs have never been work dogs, always house dogs. They sleep with me, we go for 2 mile walks every morning, car rides when I'm not going to be out of the car for more than a very few minutes. I let her run loose in the field next door for some running fun, otherwise she's on a leash. We live in a small town, so dogs need to be leashed. Not to mention running out in front of cars.

It may be stupid to some, but I give my dog the best life I can. Spoiled, pampered, washed, rubbed down with mosturizer to keep her skin from being itchy and dry, combed alot. Her coat is black and as shiny ans smooth as any woman's hair.

That's awesome Elphupphy. How do you get free vet services? And what's a wellness plan? I'd love to have free vet care. This year we spent over $1000 on our old kitty girl who had to be put down after the surgery didn't save her.

A wellness plan is insurance for your pet. You pay a monthly fee based on the size and age of your pet, For that fee, you get alot of services, but technically they are not free. There is even a part of the plan that allows you emergency services at a 24/7 vet place. This emergency vet does not have regular checkups and such, only emergencies. It's not free except for the office visit fee. Any other care, like xrays, etc. you pay for.

So, long story short, I pay the vet whether I use them or not. But when I do use them, I don't pay extra unless it would be an after hours emergency situation.

I take my dog in every few months for checkups, heartworm checks, etc. and a general good looking-over. Plus if I have any concerns, like a bump under her fur or she scratches at her ear moire than I like, I make an appt. and she is inspected and treated at no cost.

It's not cheap and costs me more than the $1000 you paid but it's worth it to me.

I never paid attention either until I lost Georgie. Now I read the labels. Labels always tell you where the product was made.

Whiskas is made in Virginia.
