It looks like the Boston Globe is goading the Donald into filing a libel suit. ac_wot

The editorial board of The Boston Globe has printed a fake front page featuring Donald Trump as president.
The newspaper printed the front page in its Sunday "Ideas" section and on its website.

It's fair comment not libel.
What an asshole.
But they're accusing him of ordering innocent people killed. How is that fair comment? ac_unsure
It's satire. It's formatted as if he's the President. Larry Flynt has already fought this one.
I'm not sure what the Flynt case was about and how it relates, but if that's fair comment then those are some pretty loose free speech laws. Some people will actually believe that those are his policies. They're literally putting words in his mouth that he never said, which will affect the outcome of the election.
Larry Flynt went head to head with Jerry Fallwell over a Campari ad where Jerry talks about forbicating with his mother in an outhouse. The test in terms of free speech is if a reasonable person would believe it to be true. Beyond that, it's a matter of taste and not law.

Aha! There you go: "reasonable people". That's my point. The vast majority are going to believe it to be true! =P
Seriously though, I think the standard should be a bit higher when it can affect the outcome of an election. It's not just someone's feelings that are at stake here. It's potentially the welfare of the whole country.
Editorials are ... well, editorials and are one person's opinion, or even a group of people's opinion. It's not printed as fact, and especially not in this case. It's not libel. IT may be in very poor taste, but hte Boston Globe is not a bastion of objectivity, so what do you expect. The days of newspapers publishing actual news and just news are long gone.

Exactly, it is satire. Have Americans forgotten what a sense of humour is? Lighten up Donald.
He apparently threatens to sue everyone.
]Please. If there ever was a phony cheeseball this fool takes it. CNN givith, CNN takith away.

Don't laugh! You'll get sued!
I realize the Globe intended this as satire. But, I wonder if everyone who reads it is able to discern that. If that translates into losing votes he has a case.
That would be the legal test if a libel case comes up.
Easter makes a point about it affecting election results but the US has a long history of political satire so I think it will stand as fair comment.

I think the GOP establishment paid the BG to post that. :laugh3:

You never know. They do not want Trump being their nominee.

You know what though bunny, I think they did not object the way Trump did.
That would be hilarious to find out that was the case.
I just thought of something. If Trump were to publish a whole bunch of negative stuff about himself his support would probably go up. :laugh3:
I don't think he's that calculating.

Same with Sanders for the Dems.
Trump is the choice of a significant portion of the GOP grassroots, but hated by the party establishment. Clinton is the Democrat party establishment, but she is not trusted by the grassroots nor does she excite the base or independents to get out and vote. Except of course to block Trump.

I have never watched an American election like this one in my life. And the fun has not even begun yet. The GOP will have a contested convention and the Dems will hold their nose and vote for Secretary Clinton.
