Orlando is the largest Disney Park. It encompasses the Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Epcot, and Disney Studios plus two water parks, Downtown Disney, and all the condos and hotels on Disney property.
We head there on Sunday. Had a great hot oil leg message yesterday and hit the pool for the afternoon, I got a good burn going, I'm like sun freckle city :laugh3:. The little one had a blast with her big sister and older cousins. 3 years old the damn kid swims like a fish.
We had a late breakfast (everyone slept in this morning) and we are hitting the beach soon. Very quite here, looks like we hit an off week. Lots of room to spread out and very relaxed.
Im glad you are having a blast Renee!!!!!

Partly sunny and in the low 80s°F during the day. We get lightening storms and heavy rain at night. Overall the weather is kinda unsettled.
Today is more overcast and windy. The surf is very rough.
I thought the weather may not have been the best Renee..

I've heard poutine is very tasty. It would be on my verboten list, since it's full of carbs and fat and like Hermie says, it's a heart attack on a plate. I've had one heart attack and don't care to have another.
But I bet poutine is awesome tasty.
I'm not real fond of wet fries. I think that's what killed it for me. The first few were good (not great) but after it sat for a few minutes and the reduction(gravey) had time to soak in..... :yuk:

Yes, I prefer my fries, when I have them which is not often, to be super crispy.
I'll have a poutine maybe once or twice a year but that's it. I'm not much of a gravy person. And ya, the fries getting all soggy after a few minutes so you gotta eat em fast.
Potato wedges anyone?
Went on the behind the scenes Jungle trek today at Animal Kingdom with my older daughter and nephews. Got harnessed up and walked across rope bridges over the crocodile and hippo pool. You can't see very well from the crappy phone pic but there are some rather large gaps in the foot boards that you walk on. Some were wide enough that they were a reach for my short chubby legs to manage. But I still managed to cross with no trouble and shoot pics one handed with my canon SX20 which is a full size point and shoot.
It's very safe, there is netting under the foot boards. So even if you miss a board you will not fall into the water but you will have a split second of stark terror as you miss. :laugh3: Plus you are harrenessed (which is checked many times) and tethered to a zip line overhead. It's Disney, their reputation for safety is unmatched as far as theme parks go. Headlines reading "Fat Chick Eaten by Crocodiles" wouldn't look good on their resume :laugh3:

Unfortunately the inside is under renovation. In the past I've eaten at the restaurant that is inside the but that was a long time ago when my older daughters were small. As I recall the atmosphere was cool but the food was meh.
There is an apartment inside the castle that DVC members can rent for a single night but it's very difficult to book. It was Walt Disney's private apartment at one time.

I wish my train went to Disneyland.
If I could get a decent paying job here at Disney World, I would consider relocating.
I'll have to check what's available. I don't see myself waiting tables or working in a park so it would have to be office work, HR or payroll or something like that.
What is the percentage of Latino workers?
There has been studies, some planning to build a Disney World near the Liberia airport in Costa Rica. Would make sense based on the fact that tourism is big here, huge cheap work force, lots of raw flat land, near an Airport, and a huge potential for Centeral and South American visitors, who would typically have a hard time to get a visa to the US. To date little movement.

What percentage? I don't know.
Housekeeping is all Latino and a good portion of the lower level service positions are as well. There are a lot of retirees in the Disney transportation system. Older guys driving buses for fun.
As a DVC member, I get updates on future park and resort locations. Currently Disney is considering locations in about 7 countries. I don't recall if Costa Rica is on the list.

My son worked in Orlando from roughly 2005-15. His field is computer game publishing. He says Orlando is maybe not as good as San Francisco or Seattle when it comes to support jobs in hi-tech industries, it's still pretty decent. Politics-wise he loved the town, but not the state.

Not only that, Renee and Peach probably have very different views on politics.

I see there are at least two posters here who seem to think I have no business offering information to Renee about employment opportunities in central Florida, when she has expressed some interest in relocating there.
I wonder why that is.
It's not about the employment advice, for which I appreciate, so thanks for your input. It's the possible political slant that they are referring to.
As Herman expressed, I'm almost certain my politics and yours are not exactly compatible. Fortunately I learned a long time ago that discussions regarding political issues on forums such as this, between people who are ideologically opposed, are more often than not.....fruitless, a waste of time and probably the number one source of animosity between posters.
This thread really has no place for that kind of......stuff.

Of course I agree. I never dreamed that anyone might read such a thing into my comment.

Yeah, evidently. People do talk about politics here, and there's even a subforum for it. I had no clue. ac_unsure

How are you feeling Renee?
Are you having a hard time adjusting to work on your first day back?
I did when we got back from California.

I feel shitty but I'm slowly easing back into the grind.
I'm already planning my next vacation. Two years between getaways is too damn long.
I finally had a chance to download pics from my camera. Unfortunately many of the pics include family members and I won't post those for obvious reasons. But these are some of the less personal pics that I thought some of you might enjoy.
Up close with hippos.....No fat jokes please.

Nile crocodiles most of them were around 15 to 17 feet long and around 700lbs.
I shot these one handed from a rope bridge and a zip line.

Elephants......These are all female, I didn't get a good shot of the bull. He had his ass to me and it didn't make for a good picture.

We were told by our guide this particular elephant pictured below has a weight problem. She was described as being "very curvy" ( like I haven't heard that before) No matter how much they cut back on her diet, she finds a way to discover food in her environment. Elephants are highly intelligent and quite resourceful. She weighs in at around 9,000 pounds and apparently that's overweight for an......elephant of her height.

This is a bull. He was a little camera shy and I wasn't about to get any closer for a better shot.

Great pics, Renee. Lucky you didn't drop your camera in the croc pit!
These are various shots. Some I shot during lunch which was right on the savanna while others were shot from our truck. Unlike the regular tours, we were allowed to stop and stand in the truck and take as many pics as we wanted. I was actually wishing I had my Nikon SLR but my little Cannon did an acceptable job.

I'll post more when I get a chance.

I like the natural looking settings they have for their wildlife.

I like the natural looking settings they have for their wildlife.
It's pretty impressive the way they have structured it to look like the animal's natural habitat.
What I like even more is Disney's commitment to preserving animals in the wild as well. Just one of their more successful efforts is a project called "Elephants and Bees"and it's done in conjunction with Oxford University. It's a project that teaches farmers in Africa to coexist with wild elephants.
//http://elephantsandbees.com
Wild elephants are a major problem for farms in poverty stricken areas of Africa. They ravage crops faster than they can be grown. Consequently the farmers turn to poaching as a means of survival. Research has discovered that elephants are afraid of bees so bee fences are being constructed and used to keep the elephants in check. This has a two fold effect.....it keeps the elephants from putting farmers out of business and the honey from the bee hives, provides additional income for the community.

Was surfing down town a couple of days ago. The guys are all over the estero. Not a good place to take your poodle for a walk.

I've seen American crocs in the Yucatan as well. They're common in the estuaries and mangrove swamps around Cancun and Playa del Carmon.
They come near the local restaurants that are on the water and scavenge for food.

Our zoo in Calgary tries to create natural settings the best they can too.
