I was concerned right from the moment I saw it but I didn't bust the goodie-goodie bubble and be demonized for it. I no longer have the strength and the patience to be dealing with these ultra intrusive social engineers.
Just to put it in perspective, people go to jail for snooping with hidden cameras in ladies rooms....in principle how is this different? The last thing I want in a restroom is some "con" (male or female) checking me out via hidden camera.
Fuck that fucken noise.
Oh and BTW....Since over 76% of DUI arrests and convictions in the US are male offenders, you can keep that shit in the men's room where it obviously belongs.

Why should I lose my right to privacy in a bathroom because some idiot chooses to drink and drive? No one is forcing that person to drink or drive or both. They don't have the right to do either BTW. I do have the right to privacy in a bathroom.
Here where I live, drunk driving is a problem. They set up traffic filters constantly. One never knows where. This 3rd world country does not tolerate drunk drivers and dead beat dads.

Eating disorders are not easy to cure. I don't see a point in mocking people for them though. What a counterproductive and childish thing to do.
Look I'm not mocking the person that a few pounds over a perceived weight bassd on height. We have all been there. I'm talking about a person that knows better, is a public servant, and who has had medical help, and still is way over weight. I'd say he need to lose 180 pounds. My friend Bob was that big. Poor dude couldn't pass up a plate of Fettechini Alfredo. Didn't make it passed 61.
Let's look at past NJ governors who really had no self control.
Let's start with Jim "homo"Mcgreevey who chased a male aid around the desk like a horny 1960s business excutive chasing a secretary...When he got caught with his dick hanging out he suddenly found God and joined a seminary...his physical build.....thin as a fucking rail....self control.......NONE!
Then we have the greedy speculator Jon Corzine (arguably the worst governor in the history of the state). Former US Senator and former Goldman Sachs CEO . It is suspected that he glommed onto millions of dollars in customer investment accounts while running MF Global Investments into the ground. 1.2 Billion dollars in client accounts disappeared on his watch. Corzine's answer to banking investigators....."Don't look at me....I have no idea where the money went". :oeudC:
Corzine was also caught having an affair with a public union rep (Carla Katz a married woman) who's union local allegedly received special concessions during contract negotiations with the state........Corzine's physical build.......thin.....normal BMI......self control......NONE!
TD is a clown. His knowledge of people and the world seems to be confined to comic books, stale stereotypes and TV sound bites. Asking him to elaborate on his idiotic positions and points of view is like asking a monkey to recite Shakespeare.
Sounds like more of a symptom of New Jersey than anything else. You seem to represent it fairly well. As for my worldliness, I've been around, and I'm not talking about Disney Land. Tit for tat.

That's a the markings of an eating disorder. When you're 5'9" and 106lbs people are all concerned about your physical and mental health. When you're 5'6" and 306lbs, you're just a fat lazy slob with no self control. It's the same problem. People eat or don't eat for all sorts of reasons and for you to think you know what those reasons are is ignorant.

I'd rather be fat than stupid any day of the week.

...well kahbuzz, here's a link about drunk driving sentences in Canada.
http://canadaam.ctvnews.ca/mobile/is-3-and-a-half-years-for-a-life-fair-drunk-driver-urges-stiffer-sentences-1.2857039
Even some of those sentenced thought they got off too light. Many in Canada will get between 3 and 5 years. Didn't that video say the driver in Florida got 14? Believe me, the US is much tougher on crime and believes in stiffer setences, including drunk driving.
You know J0E, this one is just not worth the effort. SMH....

Yeah, but that's why if given a choice to be sentenced in the US or Canada, most convicts would choose the latter. Canada is a slap on the wrist compared with the US. Y'know, I know someone who spent 5 years in a Texas prison where you live, K. I sure wouldn't wanna be him. The years in one of your state prisons had taken their toll on the poor guy. But that's what its like in America, which has the largest prison population in the world. And stiff sentences. I know that Texas is one of the most severe. Florida is pretty harsh too.
Anyways, the guy in that video would've gotten less time in Canada. Maybe 5 years or less with good behavior? Certainly not 14 years as he did in the video.

So you are saying that life is cheap in Canada?
Actually Renn, I think with respect to the POV of law enforcement, that's somewhat true in both the US and Canada.
It seems the law enforcement are more concerned with creating more criminals like the young man in the video rather than PREVENTING DUIs and fatalities. The way they see it, it creates more business for the justice system and gives them jobs.
Instead of nailing people when they get into their cars, why not do it BEFORE they even have a chance to?
Put the police in the parking lot where the patron has a chance to blow into the brethylyzer before they get into the car. And if they're over the limit, they get their car towed and they are fined for the towing costs AND the impoundment. The patron gets stuck with a fine, but no criminal record. Meanwhile, they city or government gets revenues from the impounded cars and a portion of this goes towards funding the police force. I think this is a win-win situation for the potentially drunk driver, the police and the government. But do police and government think of innovative ways like these to prevent fatailities? No. Their main focus seems to be nailing people and criminalizing them.
Anyways, I saw this scenario played out on Granville Island, a tourist spot nearby where I live. The police set up these roadblocks to catch suspected drinking drivers. But it held up traffic for hours and many of us didn't get home til midnight because we couldn't get off the Island. Now, wouldn't it have made a lot more sense to implement the solution like the above? It would've allowed us all to go home on time, and nab the suspected drunks when they got out of the bars so their cars could be impounded, fines levied and instant revenues back into government coffers? Put the 'roadblocks' outside iof the bars instead of on the street. Seems a lot more efficient way to catch drunks and to prevent fatalities due to them on the road.
JOE, you talk too much. Everything you post is like an essay.
You make me look brief and that's saying something.

And not everyone gets drunk at a bar, some get drunk and drive from company functions, home and other places as well.
Knock Knock
Hey Kahbuzz - I wasn't in any way defending the man's actions in the video.
Nor did I offer an opinion about the severity or lack of it in the man's sentence.
I was just pointing out the differences between Canada and the United States.
And clearly there are some.
So don't git so uppity and upset.
It's just that I've never heard of anyone in Canada getting 14 years in prison for a DUI even if it involved fatalities.
So it got my attention. And it was just an observation, not passing judgement.
Anyways, the idea of having breathylizer machines in bars isn't new.
I think they've had them for a while.
Actually, if every patron leaving a drinking establishment was required to blow, it may actually help the owners by providing them with protection against lawsuits from patrons who blame them for getting them drunk. Similar to warning labels on cigarettes.
There was a case in Canada, where a patron sued a bar for intoxicating him and they were found liable:
http://www.canada.com/story.html?id=21b0b41c-ddad-4439-8c22-93b2ee4bee62
Quote
RICHMOND I The B.C. Court of Appeal has upheld a lower court ruling that in March last year found a Richmond bar owner 50-per-cent liable for a car accident involving a drunken patron.
No financial damages have been awarded in the case but at the time it was reported as the most severe apportionment of blame against a drinking establishment in Canadian history.
The Appeal Court decision came down Thursday following a two-day hearing in Vancouver before Madam Justice Anne Rowles, Madam Justice Catherine Anne Ryan, and Mr. Justice Kenneth Mackenzie.
The hearing was convened after counsel for the Steveston Hotel appealed the March 2005 B.C. Supreme Court ruling that split the liability of the accident evenly between the drunk driver and the bar.
The decision to quash that appeal now paves the way for plaintiffs in the case to seek damages, lawyer Jim McNeney said in an interview Friday.
McNeney represents four of the five men injured outside the Steveston Hotel in the early morning hours of June 12, 1999.
His most seriously injured client, Eric Tremblay, remains unable to live on his own and suffers from orthopedic and brain injuries resulting from the accident, McNeney said.
A hearing to determine damages is scheduled next year in B.C. Supreme Court, McNeney said. He declined to specify how much money he will be seeking on behalf of his clients.
In an interview last March, however, McNeney told The Sun that Tremblay's injuries were similar to those of Natalia Spehar, who was awarded $7.5 million in damages in 2003 after she was injured in a crash.
When told about Thursday's ruling, McNeney said Tremblay was "very, very happy."
Counsel for the Steveston Hotel could not be contacted for comment Friday.
The hotel owners still have the option of applying to the Supreme Court of Canada to hear an appeal of the case.
The crash that injured the five men took place about two blocks from the Steveston Hotel.
Tests would later show that Harry McWilliams, the 21-year-old driver who was involved in the crash, had a blood-alcohol count of more than twice the legal limit. McWilliams had been drinking in the hotel pub prior to getting into his vehicle. After driving away from the bar, McWilliams tried to pull around a pickup truck that was stopped on the road. In doing so, he drove into a crowd of people, mainly teenagers, hitting five of them.
McWilliams pleaded guilty to impaired driving causing bodily harm in August 2000 and received a 14-month conditional sentence.
....so if the bar had signs warning the patron, and allowing him/her the opportunity to know his or her fitness to drive, it could place 100% liability on the patron.

No police state for me. Muslims I am okay with, but not me.
I got into an argument with someone today about this very issue of liability.
He said that if he invited some friends over for drinks, he felt that it was his responsibility to make sure thathey get home safely. So he either let them stay over at his place, or he acts as the desgnated driver to take them home. He said that the law would find him negligent if allowed them to drink and drive. But I see it differently - that middle aged men ought to be grown up and experienced enough to know their limit. And if they don't they're irresponsible. There's a point in ones life when they have to be men as opposed to teenagers & take responsibility for their actions. We in Canada seem to live this nanny state where numerous individuals delegate blame to someone else when in fact their own fault.

It is very difficult in Canada to get a successful case against a social host in Canada..
It is different for commercial hosts and employers.

It's not a matter of difficulty....Social Host Laws do exist and under certain circumstances a private citizens can end up in court and be persecuted in connection with a guest's DUI.
So JOE's "friend" :001_rolleyes: is right. If you have a drunken party guest, it is in your best legal interest not to let them drive until they are sober enough to do so.

I was curious about successful prosecutions, so I did a check and as of more than 10 years ago there was not one case of social hosts being held accountable in Canada..
Maybe there has been a case or two since then.
Even if it is rare for someone to be held socially responsible, I still act responsibly. If someone comes out to the farm and we get into the barrel wash, they are staying the night.

Than you are buying. That shit is expensive.
Expensive is an understatement. My friend ordered a double grey goose and tonic at the 4 Seasons at Papagayo. It was $60. Imported booze here is taxed heavily. I believe it's $35. at Bevmore. $67. at the Auto mercado here. I can get it at the Nica Frontera at duty free for $37. I do like it, a tad pricy to drink every day. Who here likes Grey Goose?
I do. Primarily drink it in bloody mary's. Blue Sapphire for gin. Macallan for Scotch.
However, Patron tequila is alcohol of choice.

The Ticos I used to work with would buy a beer and a half pint of Guaro, after work. 0 to drunk city in 10 minutes. An inexpensive way to go.

Could never understand why someone would buy "expensive vodka" (the concept alone is ridiculous) and then dump it in tomato juice or tonic water.
I don't drink vodka that often, I usually stick with Absolute or sometimes Finlandia.
I'm a bourbon drinker.....Gentlemen Jack or Jim Beam Devil's cut......IMHO the Jack is better. It's cleaner , smoother and the fragrance is outstanding. The Devil's cut tends to be rougher and syrupy.

It's a nasty liquor made from sugarcane.
Regarding any type of good liquor. The buzz from Grey Goose is so much finer than from
Sky, or Sminoff. Clean no hangover.

I could not understand that either. I quit drinking over a decade ago, but on rare occasions I had Grey Goose, I would not have poured any mix in it.
A 750 ml bottle of GG cost $49.95 CDN where I live.

Don't really care for straight up alcohol any more. The one exception being scotch and then on ice. I enjoy a good mixed drink. The higher the quality the better the drink is for me. I quit drinking straight in my mid 20's. Yes I know that was a long long long long long time ago...LOL

That is probably what she meant.
Here's a list of vodkas:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_vodkas
I never realized there were so many. I've always associated it with being 'that drink distilled from potatoes'. I've never cared for its taste that much, and have always associated it with an ingredient they put in cocktails. It always seemed. Rather harsh. However, maybe a higher grade vodka tastes considerably better than the Russian ones I've had, such as Stolichnaya? Scotch tastes considerably better the more you spend. Interestingly, Grey Goose comes from France and is made from grains. Some vodkas are even made from fruit. Not that distilled 'potato drink' I was accustomed to. So perhaps its worth looking into.

I had something like that with alcohol once.
It had vodka and rum.
It was extremely delicious & and I drank the equivalent of 40 oz.
It felt just great going down.
However, the Next day was a different story. I was hung over for 3 days.
The woman who made it for us was from Brazil.
She could and did drink me under the table.
The girls there must know how to drink and hold their liquor well.
It didn't seem to affect her at all.
....but at least I got a taste of what a real Margarita from that part of the world must taste like. Nothing 'dumbed-down' like they serve here.
Extremely potent, though.
A "real" margarita has never had vodka or rum. If it had rum and vodka it was more than likely a "designer drink".
