Herman I ride my bike and surf most days if weather and wind cooperate. I have home chores, shopping, etc like most. I have no interest in making money, because responsibility is always part of the process. I do enjoy ornamental gardening, and now that the rainy season has started, it's going off. I suppose it's similar to farming. Yesterday morning it rained for 2.5 hours. By 11:00 the sun came out, by noon, I swear you could hear plants growing. Happy to post some pics if anyone is interested.

It's very nice....I love the shore, always have ever since childhood. (in Jersey you never call it the "beach"....proper terminology is "the shore".)
Summertime it gets a little crazy on the weekends but during the week it's still okay and spring and fall are beautiful. Winter not so much; it's kind of desolate and wind swept and the Nor'easters are no fun.
It's been kinda cool here at night and with the windows open I can hear the ocean. Helps me sleep a little.

Due to a 1985 ruling in a court case "Abbott vs Burk" all school districts must be funded in strict accordance with the state constitution. The state constitution states that all school districts must be funded equally. So all districts are funded at the same level as the wealthiest districts in the state. Under the law poor school systems receive the same funding as rich affluent systems.
It sounds good and just in theory but the property owning residences of the state bare the lion's share of the tax burden for little result. For 30 years the hundreds of millions spent to improve the education in these so called "Abbott districts" has had almost no effect on improving college acceptance rates, test scores or HS graduation rates. Worst of all, like so many taxpayer funded initiatives in this state.......no one really knows where the money goes.

NJ always had higher than average taxes but before the Abbott ruling.....they were much more reasonable than they are now. It's not uncommon for people to be paying 8 to 12 thousand a year in property tax on a 350,000 dollar 3 bedroom home. Before the Abbott school funding went into effect in the late 80s they were probably paying less than 2,000 a year.
Property taxes in NJ skyrocketed after the Abbott district school funding went into effect. So much so that most retired people on fixed incomes cannot afford to live in the state. States like New Jersey, Connecticut, and to some degree New York have become states that you live in for job and career opportunities. Once you retire you get the hell out. Living costs are just too high.
Even my parents who have done extremely well for themselves are building a home in NC that next year they will be moving to full time. Property taxes there are about 800 to a 1,000 dollars a year and that's considered high compared to the state average. When I retire, unless something changes drastically in how the state collects taxes, I have no doubt I will be doing the same thing.

Why don't ya take a few extras today since its Sataurday. Maybe the beagle will get a little treat later. Just out of the water. Glassy waves this morning. Should help for the rest of the day, along with this espresso I'm having. Have a nice day.

I'm heading off to the beach as well. I doubt it's surfing weather up here though. I miss Vancouver with the ocean and the mountains. I can't be without the mountains. Flatland living is for suckers!Quote from: "RW"
