'That is how a police officer is supposed to do their job': Black Edmontonian posts police encounter online
Edmontonian Kurt Thomas was so concerned about what was happening to black men in the United States, that when he was pulled over by a police officer, he recorded the interaction. What happened surprised even him.
Thomas said he felt the recording was his only way of protecting himself if a ticket for speeding in a construction zone on Whitemud Drive escalated into something more serious.
"I always feel tension when it comes to police officers," he said. "I fit the demographic of the people I think receive the most difficult time with law enforcement."
Thomas said even when he was a child, he felt officers were suspicious of him, even when all he was doing was playing basketball.

99 percent of the time, if you are cooperative with cops in Canada they are very professional.

Of course I think the police in Canada are excellent.
I found that a bit offensive truth be told. That guy filmed because he was worried about a traffic stop? That he might not go home? Excuse me but what country does he think he's living in?!?
Better yet, why is an invented boogeyman and an attempt to play the race card news???

Because this young man felt police were suspicious of him as a child..
But more importantly he posted it on youtube and it got lots of hits.
ac_unsure
We should be nipping this garbage in the bud.

Insulting and stupid.
I know what RW and Jock are saying. This guy is a drama queen for fucking sure. Thousands of Edmontonians are stopped each month for traffic violations. The cops very rarely kill any of them ffs.
I did a lazy man's Google search and I couldn't find any instances of Canadian cops shooting black people at traffic stops. Again, I didn't search very hard but all that came up was American stuff.

I have lived in this city since I came to Canada and I can't recall the EPS ever wasting anyone over a traffic stop.
So WTF is this guy on about?

He watches too much American media.
Sure does. Then looks down. Sees some black skin and freaks out.

YEP!!
Old, but still very relevant. Should be mandatory viewing in all highschools.
The video he recorded has youtube entertainment value, but it is not news. Edmonton cops probably were happy with the good publicity though.
Dallas' top cop has answer for protesters: Join us - Become Part of the Solution
Dallas police chief to protesters: We're hiring (//http)
Only days after watching five of his officers gunned down by an anti-white anti-cop shooter, Dallas Police Chief David Brown on Monday offered some advice to protesters who remain upset about recent police shootings: Join us.
Even as sometimes violent demonstrations against police continued Sunday night throughout the nation, in cities from Baton Rouge to Los Angeles, Brown made his argument for disaffected civilians to put down cardboard signs and pick up a badge.
"Become a part of the solution," Brown said during a Monday news conference. "We're hiring. Get off that protest line and put an application in. And we'll put you in your neighborhood, and we'll help you resolve some of the problems you're protesting about."
Brown knows something about becoming part of the solution. Dallas' top cop since 2010, Brown joined the department in 1983 after, he said, watching his friends swallowed up by the crack cocaine epidemic.
"It broke my heart and it changed what I wanted to do," he said.
He worked on patrol, SWAT divisions and internal affairs as his career ascended, leading to assistant chief of police in 2005, assistant city manager in 2007 and, finally, police chief in May 2010. Brown said he remains grateful to the city that gave him a chance to try to reclaim his neighborhood.
"They took an inner city kid like me with flaws and made me their police chief,"
That's an AWESOME idea.
