Title: Sports Cars
Post by: JOE on August 30, 2016, 10:55:19 PM
...they never used to interest me.

However, I tried some out this summer, and I thought...hey, not bad!

They're stylish, luxurious, comfortable...and fast!

Plus they have the cachet of status and prestige.

Yeah...I can imagine driving one through town, down by the beach with the wind blowin' through my hair....

That'd be the life I tell ya!

So, any sports car lovers here? Have ya owned any?

What are your favorites? Which in you opinion are overrated?

What are the downsides of owning one?

Discuss....

Been in love with sports cars for many years. I'd post some photos of they'd let me. Mostly Alfa Romeros and one 1961 Porsche Speedster. Loved the look of that car and the mini wind screen. A super glorified Volkswagon.

I saw a bunch of Lamborghinis driving about two weeks ago. Must be a club of some kind, along the lines of what CC belongs to.

The much revered and now highly sought after Honda S2000. The most powerful non-turbo engine ever produced for a mass production vehicle.

9000rpm.

Tons of unique and specific innovations; electric (not hydraulic) power steering. True LSD. 50-50 weight distribution, with cross member for maximum structural integrity and stiffness for a convertible. Engine, gearbox, drive train, exhaust and fuel injection all unique to this vehicle and this vehicle alone. No parts from other cars utilised.

A true legend, and a pride and joy.

And no, its not for sale...

That's an Alfa Romeo. One of the few they built that was any good. It has a throaty, distinctive exhaust note and is quite zippy for its time. But like all Alfa's, it suffered reliability and quality problems, especially electrical.

But they are highly collectable classics nonetheless.

This is, as the other person mentioned, and Alfa Romero GTV. The one I had was a 1971. Wow that sounds old. It had a 1750 cc fuel injected engine, duel cam shafts. 5 speed gear box. Yes it did have a throaty sound to it. Some years later I had an 1976 Alfa Spider. With a bored out 2000 cc engine. It was an ex race car with a full roll cage. No heater or AC. It did have a radio. Wife at the time hated that car. Daughter loved it.

I've driven many, Fash. From luxury sedans right up to 32' stretch limousines and  party busses.

The one I drove this year was a Mercedes S series sports coupe which comes in at a price range between $150,000 to $225,000 US or $2 to 300,000 Canadian. That was quite an experience and whet my appetite for more. If you ever come to Vancouver, I'll give you a ride around the town in one.

Otherwise, the only sports car I ever owned was an old FIAT 124s.

But it rusted out and eventually got taken to the dump.

Those cars weren't made for the rainy wet coast of canada.

^ Clearly, kiebers likes the old vintage models.

Yeah, there's a place in Vancouver that has all those classic models.

Sometimes I pop by for a visit, take pictures.

I'll post the when I get the time.

Sometimes I get close enough to touch them.

That's really cool, to be able to touch the grill or the hood ornament of a rolls or a jag. Awesome cars.

However, I don't think they get much action. They're mostly for show and the owners bring 'em out oaccasionaly for show, car shows, etc.

I think you'd have to have a barn somewhere out in the boonies to house all those cars in one place.

Grew up with those in the driveway at different times. Bug eyed Sprite was first sports car my Dad bought. Drove the Healey with the 3 carb setup. It drove like it was on rails.  Shifted the others since I was too small to drive them. The Alpha was cool with dual overhead cams and dual Weber carbs. Dad used to tune the carbs with a waterhose held to his ear and the other end on the intake. Tuned it by tone. Neighbor raced and would bring his cars to my dad for the final tweak. He always got just a little extra out of them. Also had a Berkley for a short time that we put a Harley motor in. Bought a bare frame and built a formula 4 car in the garage. Body, nose and everything else had to be fabricated. NSU prince motor in it. Also had an MG for a while that I was able to borrow a few times.

It was a removable hardtop with soft top under - as does  our current boulevard cruiser ....

Never was a true sports car buff - like a car to look sporty, be fast and handle well, but also luxury interior and decent ride

When young always wanted a Healey  - also more a luxury cruiser than a sports car

- also had smooth sculptured look like out current "LUV BRD"

This was a pretty hot ride for its time. I believe this one is a 1959. I adore the lines of the car. A glorified Volkswagon, and susceptible to rust, but a beautiful car.

Seaman's boat the "Sea Major" is a death boat.  He sold it to a member of a Canadian rock band, who shortly thereafter ended up getting swept overboard and perishing.

I'm not making this shit up!

And looking at those Euro sports cars reminds me of Ferris Bueller's Day Off!

Oh my goodness.

Wikipedia

Donald Scott Smith (February 13, 1955 – November 30, 2000), born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, was the bassist for the Canadian rock band Loverboy, best known for their hit singles "Working for the Weekend" and "Turn Me Loose", although their U.S. Top Ten hits were "Lovin' Every Minute of It" in 1985 and "This Could Be the Night" in 1986. The band won six Juno Awards in 1982.[1] Loverboy sold over 23 million records.[2]

Smith originally studied guitar, and at the age of twelve moved to bass. He was majoring in English at the University of Manitoba when he received a call from Paul Dean in Vancouver inviting him to join the band known today as Loverboy.

After Loverboy disbanded in 1988, Smith was part of the band Dangerous, along with Mike Reno and Brian MacLeod. He also worked as a late-night radio DJ at CFOX, albeit briefly.[1][3] Loverboy got back together for a benefit concert in 1991, and then reunited in 1993 and continued touring through the 1990s. Smith said in an interview, "We're back because we like to rock and simply because promoters want to book us."[4]

On November 30, 2000, he was sailing his boat, the 11-metre (36.09 foot) Sea Major,[5] with two friends off the coast of San Francisco near the Golden Gate Bridge, when a freak 8-metre (26.25 foot) wave swept him overboard. A Coast Guard search, and then one by a private company hired by friends and family, ended in vain.[6][7] Experts say Smith could not have survived more than two and a half hours in waters that cold. He was 45. The band toured in his memory the following year.

In all fairness to Seaman, he did admit he sold it to the individual.

And many individuals in a rock band (even a shitty Canadian one) tend to party hard.  Too much coke and booze, and a little rough water is all it takes...  Over you go!

Took he and his women for a sea trial. They loved the boat. Sea Major was in perfect condition. I always kept her that way. He made an offer the next Monday. Wasn't too smart for him to round the Farallon islands in November. The boat did well there and back. Scott.. Scott didn't. RIP Scott.

 :yahoo:

It is for fucken sale that's why the rego is Honda and the for sale docs are on the dash

You fucken verballing cunt.  ac_beating  :sdfjh(2):

I came home the other day to see a car parked wrongly in front of my house, and a cop car parked nearby.

Yup. Stolen car, pursued down my street. But its a cul de sac, so the idiot had nowhere to go. He jumped and ran off into the fields next to the house and was caught down the road a bit.

The car as a Porsch Boxter. Nice unit.

The offender? Guess what race?
