Isn't he beautiful??

Its such a tragic shame that he lived in a country which glorifies killing.

Most Americans whose opinions I've seen said they were angry that someone would deliberately kill this unique and interesting creature just for being a unique and interesting creature.

Angry??

They should be FUCKING FURIOUS. And they should act to make sure this never happens again.

BUT...they won't. They think killing animals is their "right".

They are despicable.

Bears are killed here in Canada also.  They aren't typically an 'endangered species' here.

While I can appreciate how unique this bear is, it seems to have become quite 'acclimated' to wandering around Suburbia.

This is NOT good.  Bears here are either relocated on the double, or shot, if they have shown acclimation.

The damage that a bear can cause is typically fatal, if the bear wants it to be...  It's hard to "fight one off."  These are amazingly powerful animals, and they CANNOT be permitted to 'roam freely, or walk freely in this case.'

Black bears are becoming like coyotes in their ability to adapt to urban environments and that is not good.

I get that bears can be dangerous. I even get that there are times when euthanising them is the only alternative.

But I do NOT get the mentality that thinks its OK to hunt down and kill a defenceless creature for entertainment. At least, I don't get it outside of the world's lunatic asylum, America.

Yet you avoid a simple question.

And if Ted Nugent is "great", you need to expand your musical horizons. Start with Myley Cyrus and work on from there.

Yes, I celebrate when I bring down a prize buck or back when I used to hunt moose. I also like shooting pesky badgers that turn small gopher holes into huge holes my cattle can break their legs in. One got into the chicken coop last year and killed every single chicken. I don't shoot coyotes on my property though. They keep the rat and mice population down.

See, I fail to see any cause for celebration. You possess a high powered firearm, and the animal is defenceless.

If you need to eradicate an animal that you regard as a pest under the banner of land management, that is perhaps a necessary evil.

But how is killing an animal causing no harm a cause for celebration? Is there courage involved? High levels of skill? Are you staving off starvation?

Or, as I contend, it gives you a sense of false power.

I celebrate because venison and moose is frickin tasty. Hell, I still celebrate when I field dress a deer or back in the day when I hunted moose.

*sigh*....every fucking time I point out the barbarity of killing animals for fun, I get asked the same dumb questions; "are you opposed to fishing?" or "I suppose you don't eat meat".

It disappoints me that those that ask that question seem unable to discern the difference between killing for "pleasure", and domestic farming and fishing.

Fishing for food is fine, although it should be noted that many game fish are now protected and those that hunt them are required to catch and release. Many fish in and around Australia are protected, ranging from a unique species of seadragon to the most ravenous shark.

Fisherman invariably eat what they catch, and although I find the pastime boring, the impact of fishing on our communities is minimal.

What I find repulsive and utterly indefensible is killing animals that live among us for entertainment. We see many images of "game" hunters squatting next to a beautiful animal, feeling smug that they have destroyed the beast for NO purpose other than to satisfy an urge to kill. It is hard to understand why a human would derive pleasure from such barbarity. It is surely not to prove their courage and strength, as it may have been hundreds of years ago when the only weapons were sticks and stones.

Hunting for jollies is an abherration on modern society. If these subhumans are so thrilled by hunting and killing, give them each an AR15 and a couple of clips, put them on a remote island, and pick up the survivors a week later.

I'd pay to watch these heroes do that.
