Title: On second thought...
Post by: shin on October 20, 2016, 04:31:23 AM
Name something that has changed the way you think about a concept, or altered how you perceive something or someone.

Nothing can change my view on a concept, either perceived or real.

My brain has never permitted outside influences from taking hold.  I was kicked out of Sunday School at the age of four, for being "unruly."

That's an easy one...Islam. If it had not been for CC I might still think it's just another foolish, but benign religion.

My first overseas posting in Saudi Arabia about twenty five years ago. It changed my views and opened my eyes.

Golf has changed how me a lot. It is what I do when I am not working, it is what I often think about at work. My holidays always include golf. And I am taking advantage of this great fall weather we are having to get in as much golf as I can before the first snowfall.

I go golfing once or twice every summer, but I am not into it.

I try to think about thread topics that everyone can relate to.

A few things that have changed my outlook on life include:

How homeless people live

How illiterate people perceive things

What people who weren't born or raised in the U.S. think about our way of life

How most women make important decisions (I'm still working on this one)

How innocent minds like children and simple people make decisions with regards to their peers.

this may be a loaded question, but if nothing can change your mind... then how do you learn new ideas, and consequently, what would you get out of perusing message boards?

This tells me you have grown as a person from the experiences marriage has taken you through.

I should clarify...  I have never permitted outside sources to "brainwash" me.

It goes back to when I was four.  I was turfed for not following the rules.

Myself, and only myself, is ultimately responsible for what my brain soaks in.  And that's exactly what I do!

My thoughts and beliefs are solely based on what I deem them to be.  As an Atheist (no problem with other Religions), I have not had that influence in my life.

With absentee parents, I have not had their input either.

What I can truly do, is to view facts and figures without prejudice, if that makes sense...

And that is exactly what I do!

That would be great if the truth were always an available source of knowledge.

I think you have to have opinions before you can have truth, and other people's opinions make the truth stand out more clearly.

At any rate, it sounds like you're very set in your ways. I would think this greatly affects your mood over time.

It's not like that, Shin.  What I have had in life, is very few friends, due to no connections with anything at all!

Now, this is not a bad thing!  I am not unhappy alone!

It does give me a "fresh and free" mind to work with, however...  Without any outside conveyance!

I know what you're getting, Shin.  I know you're Black.  Hey, I'm a Kraut!

Whatever!  It doesn't really matter to me...

Nonetheless, we know how society is.

We know how certain people "act up" moreso than others do...

I think I'm flexible, too. It seems if I compare myself at every past decade I had an entirely different mindset.

I was a harsh pessimist as a teenager; now I'm optimistic to a fault.
