I got back Monday from a business trip to China. I met up with some Canadian expats. The one that I had an immediate friendly connection with was a fellow Pegger. We drank Tsingtao until the bar closed talking any and all things Winnipeg. At no time do I realize how much this city is part of who I am as when I am away from her.
This city has it's problems, but the people that live here have a connection that I have not seen in any other city in the country. Once a Winnipegger always a Pegger.
I know what you mean. I remember the first time I met a couple from Winnipeg on a trip to Caribbean. Instant and long conversation, than dinner and an excursion together.
I have a feeling when I retire and leave Canada, I will miss this city that I wanted so badly to leave.

There are a lot of retired Peggers out in BC and warmer climes. I bet they cannot go a one day without mentioning the Peg no matter how long they have been gone.

I know people in Calgary who are originally from Winnipeg..
I hadn't really noticed this, but maybe it's different when they are among other people from Winnipeg.
There are beautiful places all around the World... And Canada has very few of them, actually.
Shit... I'd be happier in a nice white suburb of San Franciso! Weather is the same as here, while the cost of living is half-price!

I thought San Francisco had very expensive real estate?
I live in the GVRD. I know about expensive...
I'd be better off in Frisco.

People walk around stark naked in San Francisco. Actually, my neighbours daughter is here with her family from San Francisco. They have a green card now. She was telling me it's always around 20 C there.

San Francisco is half the price of greater Vancouver?
Are you sure about that Mel?

The point is/was that you were both talking about expensive real estate and I posted a link to the most ugly house/beach shack you could imagine... and not only that, you'd have to pay 10% stamp duty to WA government for the privilege.

That is terrible..
But, I want to know why Mel thinks housing in San Francisco is half the price of Vancouver.

I've been to Winnipeg. Worse potholes than the Czuk, more snow than Lake Louise and swarms of mosquitoes so fucking thick they black out the sun in the summer.
Hey, what's with all the short buildings downtown? Regina is less than 1/3 the size of Winnipeg and has more tall buildings downtown.

...no you wouldn't, Mel. San Francisco is a multi-racial metro area with a huge Black and Hispanic population. And it's really expensive to live there. What Whites are left there are fast becoming, if they have not yet, a visible minority. The remaining Whites are slowly moving out or else often intermarrying with the next best 'ting - Asians. Just like Fashionista's family. Actually Fashionista would feel right at home because there are so many half breed families and children walking around.
But the Whites there don't mind them so much. They don't seem to like Blacks or Hispanics much. That was my experience when I lived there.

What a cheap shot. Are you proud of yourself Joe?

Looks like San Fran is about 28-30% higher.

I said a nice white 'suburb' of Frisco, not downtown itself!
I have driven all around Frisco. Perhaps I didn't use the right terminology...
Somewhere 'near' Frisco...

My brother and his family live in a small community North West of Winnipeg.
