No snakes of any kind where I live, but the Southern part of the province has poisonous snakes. If I had snakes, rats or any other kind of unwelcome vermin

I guess when we have toads etc. we have other slimy little bastards aswell. When you dig deep enough, the ground is warm. And the ground beneath houses is warm too.

No, I'm South of tundra or muskeg country. I live on the Northern edge of the prairie. Colder than a freezer 7 months a year, no trees, no water and windy all the time. Ground can't absorb much rain because it is so clay-like.
The prairie might not have as much animal-life.
