A buddy of mine lives fairly close to a busy track that runs freight 24/7 here, with numerous crossings nearby.
He's convinced some conductors make more of a racket in the middle of the night with the air horn than others do.
My opinion was that I couldn't see why some would do that, but I suppose it's a possibility.
So, is his hunch correct?  Can a conductor make excessive racket with the horn should he desire to?  Or are the horn blast lengths and timing strictly regulated and controlled?

I thought this was going to be another thread about his wife's

Obviously if you live close to the tracks you gonna hear the train.
Complaining about that is just as dumb as vancouverites who live in condos right next to the sky train....
...if you dont want the noise, then dont live there....duh!

Yeah a horn in the middle of the night...blah blah...

Theres a lot of drunks and druggies in that area....they could be on the tracks...

How do you know what area it is?
Anyhow, I'm sure a drunk lying on the tracks would bring a non-stop horn blast, until he was hit.
Nonetheless, this is an answer that Iron Horse can answer.  It is doubtful that you could, Berry, but thanks for the effort...
Let's just wait for Iron Horse to answer my OP.

Everything we do is strictly regulated by Transport Canada through the Canadian Rail Operating Rules. The rules with whistles and horns at crossings are clear unless there is an agreement with a municipality that changes it.
Oh and it's the engineer that sounds horns and whistles not the conductor.

Thanks for the response.  That's what I sort of figured.
Perhaps because the horns sound louder in the middle of the night leads him to believe some Engineers are "fucking around" with the horns in the middle of the night (excessive length blasts, etc) just for fun...

I live near CP Keith yard in Calgary and there are some home owners here who think that too.

Maybe they did back in the olden days?  Back when the conductors could jam their lunchboxes onto the deadman's switch, put their feet up, and take a little snooze...

No, I think some of my neighbours just like to complain.

I could give a shit about the trains....I sleep soundly anyway.

Ya, 'cause all the Zopiclone you gobble down!
So much so, that Doktors are starting to only hand out 10 at a time, like the one today!
Thanks a lot, Berry.

Think of my hearing...think about why I dont hear trains while im sleeping...hello...

Why dont you try "super sleep" from costco...its herbal...I take that instead too...it works not too bad.

Melatonin, Herbal remedies, etc...  Honestly?  Real pharmaceuticals just work the best.  They have the highest powah!~

Why are you complaining about me using zopiclone?
Are ok with your tax dollars going twords drug addicts for methadone and shoot up clinics??
Zopiclone is not covered by the ministry btw...you have to pay for it yourself.  There are many prescription drugs that the ministry does not cover (and some of them are nesseccary for people on pwd) dont think that those who live off social assistance are getting the goods, cause they are not...only the addicts get it all.

I remember you mentioning before that there are so many rules it makes it difficult to do your job.

Yes...but if you cant get access to it, then the super sleep is pretty good.
Many people today suffer from insomnia or related issue.  Did you know you can buy liquid melatonin in the US?

				Quote from: "Berry Sweet"
You can buy it here too.  I know, since I have in the past...  The cap is actually part of the "syringe" that you use to suck up the mixture.

				I never seen it.
Funny thing with me, I like going herbal and natural but for some reason, its easy for me to get prescriptions.

				I think I bought it at Shopper's...

A lot of it depends on the Doktor on duty also.  Today, there was actually a sign on the counter that said, "Doctor on duty does not prescribe sleeping pills or benzodiazepines like Valium."
Guess I'm lucky I got anything at all from him.  Some Doktors are more 'liberal' than others...  And I deal with a walk-in clinic, so rarely do you get the same Doktor twice in a row...

That is why.  I have a family doc...I been seeing her regularly for 7 years.  I always check in...she knows everything about me...it pays to stick to and have a good doc.

Family Doktors are often hard to find, and the one I had as a kid/teen was more interested in delivering babies than being available for his clients (weeks to book an appointment), so I've just went to a walk-in ever since...
Tried to go to the same walk-in for the last few years, so at least they have my history in the files.

You know it and the government and public keep wanting more cumbersome rules in the CROR. I have a little over seven years until I retire in my tropical paradise. It can't come soon enough.

I don't think I would be happy conducting a train, for this reason...
That's why I drive a truck locally...  Many things to keep you awake at any given time!  Especially Asian drivers!
Then again, us truck drivers also give you something to keep you awake also, since our vehicles can derail your train!
Like what happened here a few years back, when a train hit a loaded dump truck and transfer...  There train engines and some cars were in a farmers field!  Actually quite surreal to drive by that scene!
Cost 4.7 million to clean that one up! (don't ask me how I know)...
