Title: BMW & Mercedes-Benz
Post by: Vancouver on October 10, 2012, 01:01:22 AM
Are these Asian cars? So many Asians drive them.

Maybe they are wealthy enough to afford them, and know good cars. :)

They are status symbols. However, I think they are overrated.

exactly.......as we know...in asia status is EVERYTHING.....whether it be cars, houses, furniture, clothes etc......you must have the most expensive, not necessarily the best, just the most expensive

We certainly don't see this here in the West!

It's just another silly stereotype. As if Asians care more about status and expensive things than anyone else. Heck, most Asians live in poverty. They're more concerned about just getting by and living a decent life.

Status symbol yes, but there is a few fine cars made by those companies.

I would be happy with a nice pickup truck myself :) I'm a bit practical at times though.

as always...your statement tells me you are ignorant of the subject....go over there sometime and maybe learn something....the biggest stroke any Asian married woman gets is to lord it over her friends about how much they paid for a car/clothes/apartment/bottle of wine/meal etc......just about anything......it must be the most expensive to count in the status game

poor people are poor people everywhere ...so they are ignored......i am talking about the middle class and wanna be middle class people.......

and no....it has been my observation that in fact a great many asians do not live in poverty...they're cities are light years more modern than anything in the west......it is embarrassing to try and explain to anyone from a major asian city why we allow shit like the DTES in vanwapppiskat to exist

Around 1 billion Asians live in extreme poverty. Hundreds of millions in China alone.

The DTES is a paradise compared to the thousands of slums and shanty towns.

I´ve set my eye upon Mitsubishi lancer evolution. Red or black.

If the gas-prices weren´t so high, I would drive oldschool musclecar all the time. Dodge charger 68 or 69.

I have to move to a country where the gas-prices are low... Some S-American country perhaps.

Ferrari has pedals behind the wheel, your car has pedals in the foot-space.

Don´t mix these two together.

I have to use mid-grade or higher for gas. Roughly $70 to fill the tank.

What do you pay for a lite of fuel Odie? It's $103.9/litre right now where I live. It was 88 cents/litre about 10 days ago.

1,8e/litre. I bet it´s 2e/litre pretty soon.

During finnish mark, the gas-prices were a lot lower.

Everything has become more expensive because of the EU bureaucracy. Salaries are still at the same level, though.

That's double what we pay in Edmonton. However, you can be thankful that your fuel taxes are going to pay for all those wonderful bureaucrats in Brussels.

Experience. The situation is not that bad.

Might be better not to join, though. It would be my 3rd time going through basic-training. ;)

Not the guns/killing stuff. There is this certain type of atmosphere in the military and I get to see other places.

I thought about joining the reserves when I was still in high school, my brother was a full time infantry soldier and he kinda got me interested, but eventually I busted my knee and had to gave up my cross country dream along with serving in the army, there's no way I can finish the 13km march while carrying a load of gear that makes up 60% of my body weight with that messed up legs of mines.

I didn't know your brother was in the army Zetsu. He is the one that works for Corrections Canada no?

Yea, he started off as a security guard when he was still in school, then joined the army, later became a high school teacher, then worked as a reporter and ended up Kingston's maximum security prison, now he wants to quit and work for my old man instead because he feels overpaid in his correctional job, lol.

He has quite the diverse resume that's for sure.

Lol I can't say is that a good thing, kind of feel sorry for the employers that hires him without a contract when he'll only end up quitting in a year or 2.  :?

Well if he puts in a couple of good years he is still an asset to an employer.

I can`t deny he's the kind of guy that would give 110% effort in his job, out of us 3 brothers he got most of our dad's workaholic genes.

That is a sweet ride.

Some mild modifications are in order.

The good thing is that the japanese make cars that perform well in arctic conditions. Renault, Peugeot, Fiat, Citroen etc. do not make good cars.

I´ve heard heard so many stories about french cars splitting the cylinder heads.

When dealing with european "normal" cars, you should only seek out VW, BMW, MB and Volvo.

Skoda seems to be okay too.

Some models, yes. Some of my friends have it and their Skodas seem to be working flawlessly.

I think that Skoda has improved much in recent years.

What are you driving Zetsu?

I just drive a 2009 Civic hybrid, really wanted to get the Civic type R but too bad it failed the safety test in Canada.  Such a waste for a car that only come once in a life time.

You might like the new Toyota Prius hybrid coming out this 2015, best part they're adding a AWD system.

Thank you for the tip Zetsu, AWD is a good feature to have here in Calgary..

We just bought a new Nissan Altima and since we are only working people there will be no new car until 2018-2020..

At that time that particular Toyota Prius modeal and it's features might be outdated.

If the gas prices weren´t so high, I would only drive a -68 Dodge Charger or Pontiac Firebird. -65 Mustang is nice too.

I already have the -68 firebird but I would really like to have the charger.

I can only drive it during summers because it is registered as a museum-car to avoid taxes.

Did you restore it yourself?

Me and my friend took the engine apart and replaced worn down parts.

The plating was in good shape and it was just repainted.

New leather for the interior.

New wiring.

New chroming.

Stuff like that.

My husband wants one that is in rougher shape than that. Wants some kewl before and after pics. A real sense of accomplishment.

It requires some talent and long nerves. Many "FUCK FUCK FUCK FUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKKK!!!!!!! AAAARRRGH!!! IT CANNOT BE DONE! IT JUST DOES NOT FIT!!!!" moments when you do body-work.

"I bought the right part, yeeeyyy!" "Why does it not fit!?"
