That's unreal Renee!
Another talent I picked up from working Ren Faires. I always had raw talent (it's still raw), then I got very friendly with an artist/vendor that used to sell fantasy art at faires all over the east coast. I picked up some technique regarding perspective and shading from him.
I still suck because I never followed thru or took it seriously.
Fuck.

How do you do these asal? Do you take photos and draw them or from memory or do you do them live?
Live :) I have time to draw the ones that don't move their position very much.
The man on the bottom picture moved away, so I had to fill in areas. I'm not confident with drawing from imagination (suck at drawing from imagination).

I don't recognize a stove? What do they cook on? Are they using fire? (Great image, intriguing)
Is that not a giant grill with fire pits in the bottom on the far right?

! I am intimidated.
It sure is pretty, though. The copper is gorgeous. The colours are so pretty.

The stove, as RW rightly observes, is the cast iron, black structure far right.
The ovens are at the rear.
Will money change your mind?
I learned it is never good to be bubbly around a bunch of men while serving refreshments and then say, "Coffee, Tea, of Me!" Learned this lesson well while I was but a young healthy doe.
Me too!!!
Uncanny.
It's strange for me because it's a kitchen built for staff - not for individuals. The smells must be amazing!!! Roasting over fire!!! And the smoke must be tough to deal with. The colour of the walls is just so beautiful, particularly behind the copper.

The cooking areas are extremely well ventilated, although that's not clear from the picture. The wall behind the stove is actually a very large chimney.
But at full roar, preparing for a banquet for example, it would have been an amazingly bustling, hustling place.
I'll call this photo - cheeky grin.

Our youngest loves the color pink.
So when we were in the shops today and found some other color besides pink for a sorely needed new pair of sneakers, she went for the cheapest which ironically were pink in color. I know I shouldn't complain. Cheap is good, is it not?
The purple ones had her favorite Disney movie characters on them (Frozen), but it didn't matter one bit. She "needed" the pink shoes instead of simply "wanting" them. As you may well understand now, she's got a pigheaded streak for the color pink (which we've done everything in our power to alter, to no avail). Dad and myself have never wanted an experimental trial in raising a pink girlie princess but we're at the point of giving up while quietly nodding and smiling at one another. The Cosmos has played a sneaky little trick on us and it's well played. :laugh3:
(We don't generally post photos of our children online but decided the shoes and smile needed to be seen together. That's why the rest is gone.)
Lovely pic!!
Well done.

That would have been cool to see. Your deer are really cute and not like the introduced deer we have here. Ours look like sooty black deer on steroids.
Its a White tail deer, sometimes they cross mate with mule deer which are much larger and those we call black tail. This one was watching us im guessing because it had a little one. Its sad because it almost looked like it was making its rounds going from camp spot to spot looking for food that was left behind.
Probably they just looked like they were looking for food because I doubt deer eat what we humans eat. These are mostly what they eat: acorns, clover, alfalfa, corn, winter wheat, oats, soybeans, peas, sweat potatoes, and apples. That's all I can think of though.

The camp site we were at had alot of dry corn and sunflower seeds all over the place, im guessing the seeds were for the squirrels.

Echoes in the Hall
She ran down the hall
Passing the empty rooms
Once full of life and sound
Old pictures hung on dust
As her heart remembered
The feel of wood worn down
She could hear him sleeping
She could hear him typing
She could hear him coughing
She could hear the silence of her breath
Meeting the thick air of neglect
With a cold and distant handshake
As she ran past their doors
To the mirror at the end of the hall
She stared at her dirty face
And smiled
:smiley_thumbs_up_yellow_ani:
Nah. I'm just trying to warm back up.
The Queen of Hearts danced with the devil
In a ballroom made of glass
Where creepy things licked at the windows
And an angel showed us her ass
An older man sat rambling
A drunk cussed out their name
A baby cried for his mommy
Who was going insane
The man girl had gone missing
Their time was all through
But in the fray of the chaos
We gave birth to The Blue

She's looking pretty good today, I just get to enjoy a lot of diarrhea.
I can tell you love your dog very much asal
they're so expensive keeper
there's no escape - instead of time walking, now it's time cleaning up.
One man told me that dogs are the best insurance policy: They're excellent walk coaches and they keep you safe :)
Very good photos, all.
It is supper time, but where's supper?

Hush, my savage heart
You have savored agony like this
No heart is King that enjoys endless bliss
Stay strong and light
A brand new day comes with the morning light...
Smile even as you ache
Have a laugh, for your sake
Joy will return
Like the tide on the shore
It ebbs and flows...
Ebbs and flows

My best friend has gone away
No more will we laugh and play
No more games and whispered secrets shared
No more comfort knowing she cared
Why is love never enough
yet always too much
Why do you have to beg
For one simple touch
Why does my heart beat
while writhing in pain
Why do I scream in defeat
Yet do it all again
Why do humans vow an oath of love
Then end up dropping the glove
At first they declare complete bliss and ecstasy
Then end up in bitter rivalry
At the start they call each other cute
In the end, there is nothing said that the other won't refute
They hope to live happily ever after
But turn into each other's blaster
Is this the fate of all who vow an oath of love
To become whom the other is sick of
Is it more rewarding to be happy alone
Than to live with the wretched known
It seems predictable as it happens to most
Maybe sticking it out is nothing to boast
Interesting sentiment...maybe the idea of marriage is redundant.
I have seen true love
at the end of years
in my great grandma's smile
at my great grandpa's red ears
he got grumpy when he got old
really picky about cheese
great grandma was hilarious
shrinking in height, she couldn't reach the cookies
I know they truly loved each other
from the way that they played
they complimented each other
well matched. Comforting, lovely and staid.

In a garden roses grow
They need water this I know
If you leave them they will die
Now when it happens you'll know why
In my garden, only weeds
I didn't even plant the seeds
When I try to make them dead
They just go on and spread
To My Aunt Rose:
In the garden, let us meet
Where the fragrant blooms are sweet
You will find me in the shade
Of a willow before the glade
With you I long to watch the hours go by
It's been decades since the last goodbye
What Fate Allowed
There she was just sitting there
Upon the stone out in the square
The sun shone brightly off her hair
While Eros stood in point and stare
A silver crown wrapped 'round his head
He had aged but far from dead
To the fountain heart was led
"She showed up," he stopped and said
She heard his voice amoung the crowd
As if he'd spoken out so loud
And found him looking very proud
In the moment fate allowed
She ran to him and grabbed his face
He held her close in warm embrace
They lost their grip on time and space
And faded black without a trace
Like so much that remains unseen
This soulful meet was just a dream
What never was has never been
And this is why true love is mean

I went to the NY Renn Faire this weekend, mainly to see if anyone I remembered was still there. It's been about 14 years since I was there last and 20 since I worked it and a lot has changed and not all the changes are for the better. All pics are shot with my old point and shoot Cannon SX20.

I agree, I quite like my Cannon; I've had it about 7 years now and like my previous S2is, it goes everywhere with me. For casual shooting it does "almost" everything that my Nikon DSLR will do and it takes pics that are every bit as good as my dad's old Pentax SLR. Unfortunately it's getting a little dated and I'm thinking of trading up to the SX520.
Plus it has a 20x lens, face recognition, auto and manual settings, movie capability and best of all, it actually feels and looks like a substantial camera which is something I prefer. I'm not a big fan of really compact cameras. IMHO the only selling feature they have is their compactness. Nowadays, if you are going to use a compact camera you might just as well use your phone which is whole separate subject/issue that I have. I don't want to sound like a photography snob but people with their phones, snapping pics everywhere, annoy the shit out of me, especially when they step in my way. I can't even begin to tell you how many shots I've had ruined by ignorant people with their God damn phones.
Hah!!! You should visit the temples in Cambodia. Thousands of people all taking pictures with phones...and iPads!!! Of course, it takes twice as long with a phone, and so if you wish to photo a specific subject, you're trying to work amidst hundreds of people trying to work out how to use their phone camera in bright sunlight, and then checking if its OK.
"Oh, Shen Li, you no smile. Take again."

Hello, Renee. Anything that comes up that is an opportunity to take your mind from the matters that drag you down is welcome. It is like an unexpected small gift. That's how I look at it. I'm opening myself to new adventures and experiences, meeting new people. I'm outgoing so I have met so many new friends in my new neighborhood and in the shuttle I take to work and back.
... having been actively taking photographs for a year or so now, i've come up with some rules that i follow. here they are:
1. always have your camera with you; opportunities to take shots happen at all times and usually not when planned.
2. frame your subject in the middle of the screen and make it as large as you can. don't get fancy, just make your subject as easy for the viewer of your photo to see as you can.
3. take MANY shots of your subject. having lots of photos to choose from can be a blessing. and it's often the UNEXPECTED PHOTO that is the best one for the project.
4. take shots of your subject with and without the flash. often your camera will decide that the automatic flash isn't required. thus, if your camera permits, use the forced flash on your subject. this way you can choose between both and often things look better with the added light.
5. don't be shy about taking pictures. with everyone now having a camera on their phone, taking pictures is very much the norm. even if you feel a little uncomfortable about taking a picture in a public location take the photo anyway.
6. if you have the software, don't be afraid to crank up the brightness, the saturation and the contrast in your photos. these settings can REALLY HELP make your pictures stand out. as well, shots that you might think are too dark to use can be made near-perfect by increasing the brightness.
... well, those are a few pointers i've been able to think of ...
... any other camera buffs on the board? if so let's hear your tips too!

... any other camera buffs on the board? if so let's hear your tips too!
No 2 isn't quite right.
Google "The rule of thirds"...it will transform your photography.
Yup! 3rds is essential for landscapes of all types, and often good for other types of shots that one has to think a bit about how to 3rd them

Here is another tip...... Get a real camera, keep your fucking phone in your pocket and at public venues and events, learn some manners and photographic etiquette.
I agree Renee.

... could you post an example of this please?
Any piece of art will give you the notion. Even the Mona Lisa.
Artists have always used The Rule Of Thirds. My digital SLR even has a "Thirds" grid that it superimposes on the viewfinder so you can line up the subject on a third.
Centering the subject is not always best. Putting it on a third rather than "half" (centre) makes for a more interesting image with greater depth.
But, in the case of portraits, the subject is often centred, but the EYES are on the third.
Examine the Mona Lisa...

You will see that Da Vinci has placed the mountain and sky delineation about one third of the way down from the top of the picture, the same level as that famous smile. Her dress is on the bottom third with the lower reach of the river. Look at what he places a third of the way from the top and two thirds from the top. It is classic composition. Great pieces of art and photography use the rule of thirds to enhance their composition and make the image more interesting. Whilst it is not always easy to place a feature in a third (action, sports, wildlife) the photographer often crops the image to put a feature on a third.
This should help.

I have this argument with my husband all the time. The idea of altering photos IMHO should be to get things to match what the eye sees as closely as possible. I don't believe for one second the sky was a pale violet the day you took that picture.
I don't like it when things are altered to be unrealistic when they should be altered to be more realistic.
Have you been to Australia?
Have you been to the southern hemisphere?
Have you seen a southern sky at dawn, or dusk?
Don't be literal...colour is just part of the art.
And I think there should be something very literal about photography, don't you agree?
At least now I know what colour the sky in your world is...
No. Photography does not have to be literal, any more than art has to be literal.
So you aren't capturing something in its actual form?
Not always....everything has different forms if you bother to look.
Quote from: "RW"
So you aren't capturing something in its actual form?
You are capturing a true form but color can vary slightly. Just using a different camera can change an image's color. For example Canon digital cameras have a tendency of giving a warmer image while Nikon cameras a cooler image. The same goes for different manufacturers of 35mm film. The color can and does vary somewhat even if it is unintended.
Quote from: "SPECTRE"
Not always....everything has different forms if you bother to look.
Let's have you make a concerted effort to not talk down to me, mmmkay.
Different forms or not, photography is generally designed to capture something tangible. It's not like a painting or drawing where you can invent a subject. In that, the subject will have an actual colour that will be captured by the camera. Due to colour limitations of cameras, sometimes images have to be adjusted to display what was actually seen by the photographer and that would reflect some form of reality like the sky was a much more vibrant blue than what was shown in the image. In my personal opinion, the best way to ruin a photo is to play with light and colour adjustments until the image looks unrealistic - like the sky is a lilac purple colour.
The exception to this would be if you are intentionally trying to art it up and aren't going for realism. At that point, go to town on the image. Let the viewer see your mad photoshop or lightbox skills. Commit to your artistic vision and go to town!
Photography like any art form should evoke an emotion regardless of how you convey the image. This is most often done with light, color, focus and angle.
Photography is not always just about capturing realism. By playing with or by experimenting with a subject from lens to final image, an ordinarily subject can be transformed into something extraordinary. If we just took pictures simply to convey stark reality, photography would be a very boring medium.
Almost all of the the most famous photographs ever taken have been augmented in some way, wether it be cropping, color enhancements or color removal, focal point and angle.

I understand all of the above. What I'm suggesting is sometimes after effects detract from the image when they are done improperly. In the case of Spec's example, all I think is "some noob photoshopped the sky light purple". Is that the intended emotion? I doubt it.
I have seen so many photos ruined at the hands of Photoshop due to over the top edits. I think one should be careful when correcting images that are intended to convey a level of realism.
I felt we needed an art sub back.

Again this is not my original creation.....it was drawn by me and adapted by me to fit my style.
So, what did you ask for ??
A smaller ass.
Unfortunately Santa didn't make enough of them because every Christmas morning, for 18 years, I woke up next to a great big one.
Well now you can go find yourself a smaller (and hopefully smarter) ass. :)

You really need to grow up.
70 going on 7 is really an unflattering look. It's bad enough that I let your low rent ass pilfer my work, I don't need to see your childish remarks as well.
Honey, when you get to my age, growing up doesn't have a lot of appeal. Or, in your case, growing out.
I refer you to your remarks to Joe when he suggested a process for losing a little of those pizza and donut induced hoops...you know me not, so please don't tell me what I should do.
You should be flattered that I borrowed your scrawls. It gets them noticed.

Well appeal or not, at your age I suppose you should be happy just to be breathing.
As for "scrawls", if you had half my talent (little as it is) you wouldn't need to steal my work. So watch your mouth old man. And what makes you think I need or want your help in getting exposure for my drawings? What I do, I do for my own satisfaction. So don't act like you are doing me some kind of backhanded favor.
If the subject matter of my work is something that keeps you from commenting like an adult then try to control your juvenile outbursts and move on. If you can't, well then I guess you have my sympathies on the the death of your common courtesy and maturity.
BTW, I know you well enough by your bratty comments and tantrum throwing antics to make enough of a judgement call about your level of maturity. To make things easier, you're a "guy" and mysterious or complicated your species ain't.
I would have thought everyone who breathes is happy to be doing so. Stating the obvious, there, cupcake.
And rest assured, sugarbuns...you know nothing about me.
I'd happily post some samples of your drawing if you like Crow.

Can 1 lone guy artist, go up against the 3 lady artistes here on the 'shoe?
Should be inerestin'.
Git ready, Ladies. You aint seen nothin' yet! Unlike Mr Crowley's fakery, Ole Joe's gonna give ya a show!

Hot Dog Hell and Back Again
I used to love hotdogs. They were everything that was right in the world. They were a blast back to childhood fun and merriment, memories of times when life was simple and carefree. Even after discovering they were made from all the parts of animals normal life had no use for all tucked neatly in a sheep's intestine, I ate them anyway. When you love something, you accept it for what it is and don't let a few unpleasant details get in the way of enjoying it.
When I started high school at the tender age of thirteen, I was introduced to the wickedness of food. I'm not just talking about the fat or calorie content of such tasty things. Everyone wishes they could eat chips, cookies, candy bars and bacon and not have it attach to their hips like a pair of fifteen pound screaming babies. I'm talking about the prime evil side of food. For me, the food I loved became the weapon of choice in the hands of teenage cruelty. Yes, an innocent hot dog – the hero of the backyard barbeque, the hit of the childhood birthday party, the home run delight of the ball park – became the bane of my existence. You see, I was pegged as the girl who had sex with a wiener.
All it took to gain that label was a falling out with the wrong girl over something as simple as a smile from the wrong boy and next thing I knew, I was a pubescent pariah. Whispers and giggles exploded down the school hallways, coupons were taped to my locker and wieners thrown at my head while walking between classes. Even sporting a six inch long red mark on my bruised pride, I managed to break a slight smile knowing they likely paid full price for that package of franks as their discount was sitting in my locker under my anatomy textbook.
I had always wanted to be popular, I just had no idea I could be propelled to notoriety through food. No matter where I went the hotdog would follow me. Bathroom walls were scrawled with versions of my supposed story. Tales of broken wieners and visits to the doctor spread like an unattended campfire. I was branded "Oscar" of the Mayer variety. I even had to fight Justine McMillian in 9th grade because her friends dared to her beat up the sausage slut. I'd meet people from two towns over and watch their eyes flash recognition upon hearing my name. I knew right away how they'd heard of me. Some would be so bold as to say, "Hey! You're the girl that..." They'd trail off as I quickly offered an acknowledgement and a correction in the same breath. Not a day would go by where I didn't hear about a hotdog.
Sure, we all don't like certain foods like brussel sprouts or liver, but I HATED hotdogs. The mere smell of them would make my stomach turn and my face redden in embarrassment. They were like a bad boyfriend with a sordid past that I didn't know anything about until it was too late. I was trapped in their evil clutches and there was no way they were letting go even though I had clearly fallen out of love.
I weathered my high school years as best I could in the face of food fame. My friends wrapped themselves around me like a warm bun and deflected a lot of the names with their special brand of Dijon wit. Each one abandoned their love of foot-longs and smokies because of the pain those bite sized bolognas had caused me. They'd seek out other meaty martyrs for me to talk to, other "Frank Skanks" who were branded with the hot grill marks of rancid rumor. There were Sandys and Sarahs, Lizas and Delilahs, Cathys and Karens. All of us victims of Mr. Tube Steak. All of us with friends who had become closer in our doggy deflection.
Once high school was over and I was away from the bustle of the proverbial hotdog cart, perspective finally peeked over the horizon. I looked back on my hike through hotdog hell and found strength, endurance in the amazing people who would forgo any links to lessen my load. For the first time in almost a decade, I found hotdogs brought me closer to my friends and that old affection boiled up inside of me. Those tasty tubes of torture were a test of my friendships and my own fortitude. I had climbed hotdog hill and lived to tell about it.
To celebrate my freedom from the Frankenfurter, I went to the ball park and ordered myself a red hot. I sat alone in the bleachers just staring at the hotdog in my hand. It looked like the same hotdog that greeted the special occasions of my youth. It was no longer roasted by the fires of hell's inferno. For the first time in my life, I enjoyed a hotdog with relish.

As for the story it's well written, it evokes all the feelings of adolescent pain many of us have and have worked hard to forget. On the other hand the situation is rather cliché and a little stale.
Just my take on it.
The point of it was that like every school has a girl who was rumoured to have fucked a hot dog so it's a food item that everyone knows.
I am white trash and I love tube steaks.

Chinatown.
Even in the middle of the day, it was dark and menacing. Moreso, when you're white, dressed sharply and as out of place as Fashionista at a Wicca gathering.
I looked for a kindly face, which in these parts meant a face that didn't look like it heralded your immediate violent and bloody death. An old Chinese woman sweeping the footpath in front of the "Red Dragon" restaurant looked like the least likely to pull out a blade and start slashing as I approached. A fleeting thought crossed my mind as I walked up to her...why does every Chinatown in every city of the world have a restaurant called the "Red Dragon"? A Chinese version of KFC perhaps, without the herbs and spices. Or smiling caricature.
The old woman continued sweeping and looking downwards, even as I stood a foot in front of her and the footpath was now clean enough to sleep on...a fate I hoped I would avoid.
"Shen Li", I said in a clearly quizzing tone.
The obligatory and expected lack of response followed, her eyes still fixed on the paving and the brush still sweeping in unnecessary arcs.
Optimistically, I took a twenty from my pocket, brandished it under her still downward gaze, and said "I'm looking for Shen Li".
Again, the stoic and quintessential Chinese brush off. This old crone had clearly been approached by westerners on prior occasions.
The twenty returned to my pocket, making way for a fifty, and I repeated the question. At least she looked up and held my gaze, and the brush ceased what I suspected may have been perpetual motion at one point.
Now we're getting somewhere.
The twenty made a reprise appearance and joined the fifty. I moved the notes closer to her hand, still clutching the broom.
She took the cash.
"Shen Li. Where is she?"
"You no look for Shen Li. Shen Li look for YOU" she snapped back.
Another twenty manifested itself in my hand...briefly before transferring into hers with astonishing speed for a woman that looked like she'd survived both world wars.
"Why you want Shen Li?" she asked, just as sharply.
"I have a business deal to put to her"
A ten. That made the payout a neat hundred, which amazingly is the standard fee for information no matter where you are in the world. Nothing short of three numbers will get you anywhere, and the drip feed of notes until you reached that amount was just part of the game.
"Inside" she said, accompanied by a nod of her head towards the restaurant behind her. Always a restaurant. Always the "Red Dragon". Always paying off the lightly disguised sentry.
As I approached the door, the crone fired a warning. "Good luck, cookie boy. She in bad mood. You might come back out without balls. She badass".
What else is new, I mused as I opened the door.
And discretely, briefly grabbed my testicles.

Ugh, I can't make the understand. ac_unsure

Lately I've taken up oil painting. Here's a couple things I've done to start. Please feel free to add an honest critique or say what you see in the painting. You won't hurt my feelings.
This was my first attempt and I just smeared the leftover paint I had from my first go at oil.
Here's my second attempt. I bought some new paints. I don't think I'm quite done with it so suggestions are welcome!
Damnnnnnn girl you have some skillz.
Love the first one the best!!
Nice job RW :)
How long does the oil paint take to dry??
Both efforts are interesting. I will be interested to see the completed second one, and I am really enjoying it.
I think they look awesome too Peaches, If I could be so lucky to paint this good.

I honestly don't know.
Acrylics dry faster than oils, but that's about all I know. Also, the knife work in the second one will take longer than the brush work in the first one.
My seven year old granddaughter said I should say that. She wants to do a knife one now.
The knife one has been drying for 6 days and it's still tacky to touch. I LOVE working with knives. I also did the first one with knives but it's much thinner.
Ask her what I should do with the second one. I'd love her feedback :)

I misspoke; Kaya turned eight in January. She said if she were doing it she would want some more green in the area to center right where the blues and yellows are bleeding to green. Not too much, not to replace the green that's there already, just a bit to give more punch to the "green" idea. She thinks the green should be darker at the bottom than the top, she likes the logic of that.

Now there's a masterpiece!
I added a bit more to the rainbow one. Not loving it yet...
Can't help ya today. Looks better to me, but the granddaughter who's here today is only 4 and she'd probably suggest adding a unicorn right in the center. :oeudC:
She may be on to something.
My latest one is complete garbage and I hate it.
I liked it, made me feel young again :smiley_thumbs_up_yellow_ani:

If the canvas is big enough, I sort of like it. It depends on the scale. It's a Hubble telescope image with a more surprising backlight.
I seem to go the astro route. :/

The paint seems so shiny with the light from above. Hrm. I might have to get a retake on this one.

Much better; easier to look at....still not my cup of tea. But what do I know? I'm a Hildebrandt bros and Kincaide fan and according to art snobs, that's not really "art".
But it's not offensive to look at like the other one was and it looks like it has a purpose. I kinda like it. :smiley_thumbs_up_yellow_ani:

Here is a piece I had the pleasure of coming across this weekend. It's not mine, it's a sample of my sister's work.
She gave me permission to post it mainly because the subject matter is a surrealistic caricature of yours truly. Ha ha ha.....bitch.
Please forgive the perspective as I didn't have access to halfway decent scanner, so I just shot a pic with my phone.

Unlike me, my sis can work in color and is very talented with ink, pastels and water color. Unfortunately like many artistic people she is freaking flighty as hell and never finishes anything. :laugh3:
She also has a terrible habit of overrunning her pad or canvas as you can see. The concept of scale and the ability to count beyond 10 without taking off her shoes, escapes her. :laugh3:
What a ditz. ac_biggrin
I love it! Very fitting.

I know she's good and that's not even really an example of her best work. I can't do what she does. I don't have the patience to work in water color or ink. I'm always in too much of a hurry.
One of these days I'm going kick her in the ass hard enough to get her to go back and finish school and do something with that talent. It annoys me that she is that good and she doesn't do anything with it.
I should create a new musical vibe, that's fashionable with young and old alike... It needs Angst, and a hard driven purpose, but yet soft and comforting enough for the elderly...

Pictures of Justin Trudeau participating in Toronto's Pride parade warmed my heart. He is engaged and having a great time just being with Canadians. It was a joy to see.

So was Maxime Bernier, Dr Kellie Leitch and Michael Chong who are all seeking the leadership of the federal Conservative party. They are all politicians seeking to curry favor with an influential demographic. Politicians are full of shit.

He's the FIRST Prime Minister to march in a gay pride parade. You want to talk about currying favour, that's fine but he just made history.
Regardless, this is a picture thread and I loved the images.

Yep, he sure did. He is the most shameless vote chaser to occupy 24 Sussex. I do not care if anyone wants to attend gay day parade, but those four people sure want to make sure they are seen doing on social media.

I am not a fast food lover(save KFC), but hot dogs are among my least favourite fast foods.
Hey Phil, did you take advantage of our low dollar and visit Canada this summer?
My son loves hot dogs.
I did this one last week with me mum. Monstera deliciosa. The paint strokes need a bit of tweaking. Before the glaze & firing, you don't really see your mistakes.

The end of the electric light bulb? Cool.
Not really.
All light bulbs or light emitting sources that I know of are electrically powered. Some old lamps would run off of oils, or other chemicals, but those days are pretty much done, except for camping lanterns, etc.
While my work truck has some LED's, and my car has some also... Added an LED taillight to my Harley also...
Nonetheless, I have a huge supply of incandescent bulbs that I use in my condo. These are the "old school" electric bulbs with a filament that you are probably thinking of.
I will forever run these in my home, because they simply produce a light that's proven to simply be the most appealing to the eye, even though they consume a lot of energy compared to other lighting solutions.

^^^^ flowering in my garden at the moment... It's fantastic. I never realized it was going to produce like that. I never knew its name so I researched... It's from the Canary Islands.
This what wiki says of the plant. common name; The pinwheel Plant
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aeonium_haworthii
Aeonium haworthii (Haworth's aeonium, pinwheel) is a species of succulent plant in the genus Aeonium of the family Crassulaceae. It is native to the Canary Islands, but it has been introduced to other areas of similar climate, such as Southern California. It is a sand-dwelling beach plant, a subshrub with rough, woody stems and rosettes of thick, red-edged green leaves which are triangular or diamond- or spade-shaped. It grows to 60 cm, with panicles of cream-colored pointed flowers produced in spring.[2]
A. haworthii is grown as a houseplant in temperate regions. It has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.[3]

They're not a native bird in Western Australia and are considered a pest in WA... And the population has taken off like a rocket tho..

I was going to take pictures of the Super Moon rising in an hour but I'm blocked in by a truck and I cannot disturb the driver but a couple of weeks ago, I captured the half moon at sunrise from my front garden. I was impressed with the quality of the new camera.
I'm a bit disappointed since the news says there won't be another super moon this good for another 20 years.

(//%3C/s%3Ehttp://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q260/caskur_2006/P1010539%202.jpg%3Ce%3E) (//http)
OK I went and stood on a highway cross-over bridge at Melville High School and on the wrong camera setting took shots of the super moon through smoke pollution.....This was as good as I could get. I can fake shots better than this. Apparently we're not going to see the moon this big for another 20 years....

(//%3C/s%3Ehttp://www.ballsgohere.com/uploads/a4732e3c7e.jpg%3Ce%3E) (//http)
My new discovery - these are taken in the morning at twilight... just before sunrise... that is the best time to take pictures of the moon. FORGET NIGHT TIME. Once you do that you can send it to your programs and then hit the darken shadows.. That brings out the craters on the moon and blackens the sky. I'll probably never again do the moon again. I scored pictures of a full eclipse a few years back but with the smaller camera. This is probably the best I can do with my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ300 Digital Camera

I have a facebook page for my wildlife photography.
It saves me using those hideous upload images or photobucket. I do use them tho from time to time but have been a bit funny about them since imageshack is one site holding my images hostage.... no one can see them unless I pay for it. It might even be deleted as far as I know.
If you like birds and stuff... this is where I post them... tick like if you them... I need 2500 likes and so far I only have 19 so I have a very long way to go...

Yep... The one with the blue sky is just after 6:30 PM...
The ones with the dark background are taken at twilight the next morning.... The morning ones at twilight have been adjusted in a program... hit "darken shadows" 100%... It makes the background darker.
You can really take shot in the middle of the night ... It's just far to contrast... and you no detail... that's the trick... you take the pictures when its light outside. They don't telly you that... you have to find out yourself...lol
May as well start posting some Perth colour...

It doesn't show up in the photos but the sun was PINK and that was caused by the bush fire's smoke haze. EVERYONE stopped and got out of their cars to take pictures... The car park was FULL. It was a week day and so all the people were there just to witness it.

Adelaide is a motor racing city, that once hosted the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix.
This past weekend, we had the Adelaide Motorsport Festival to celebrate the history of motorsport here and throughout Australia. It featured the return of a number of F1 cars and drivers to do some parade laps to remember the golden age of F1 here.

I don't want to know about the size of his butterflies.
The cars are quite large.
These weight around 650Kg with around 700hp. The Ferraris are from the turbo era, and are closer to 800-900Hp. They are highly complex machines, but compared to todays F1 cars, they are positively primitive.

This is a thread to post photos.
If you examine the previous posts, you will see that it is inappropriate to flame, or be critical.
If you do not like the subject matter, or the art piece, you have two choices; stay out of the thread, or shut the fuck up.
Your inability to judge when it is appropriate to make a fool of yourself by running your bucket mouth is well known throughout the forums you've infested in the past. My challenge to you here is to act like an adult, speak only when you have something worthwhile to say, and stop screeching for attention every 5 minutes.
Of course, I offer that advice full in the knowledge that you lack the integrity and character quality that would enable you to extend your conduct beyond that of a spoilt ten year old, but we all live in hope.
By all means, offer supportive and constructive comments if it is at all possible from that bent melon you call a head. If you cannot bring yourself to rise above your own fatuity and personality flaws, before committing more of your self deprecating imprudence, may I suggest you simply walk away from the keyboard and go for a long walk.
The longer the better for us all.

Sorry, but your work needs some improvement.
Firstly, is it a picture of a caravan or a man. It simply looks like a holiday snap and tells no story.
Secondly, you've photographed in early afternoon and the light is wrong. The caravan is shaded, and the sky is too bright and lacking detail.
Thirdly, you haven't cropped your work and there is a distracting oil or petrol drum in the foreground.
Remember, photography is firstly about the light...then the subject matter.
The other day, a swarm of clouds swept across the summer sky. The made me think of sky dancers as they wisped and waved slowly but surely from west to east in late afternoon.

Early morning and early afternoon light has the same consequence. It washes out colour and contrast. As you can plainly see in your own work.
The oil drums are centred. The colour is also washed out. Stop down by about -1.
Have you not heard of the "Rule Of Thirds" as it applies to art and photography?
Look it up.

If your colours are washed out it means your device isn't colour adjusted.... It would would explain your porpensity to overly saturate your bird shots.

What is that Oberon?
It looks a member of the weasel family.
That is a meerkat.
"The meerkat or suricate (Suricata suricatta) is a small carnivoran belonging to the mongoose family (Herpestidae). It is the only member of the genus Suricata.[2] Meerkats live in all parts of the Kalahari Desert in Botswana, in much of the Namib Desert in Namibia and southwestern Angola, and in South Africa. A group of meerkats is called a "mob", "gang" or "clan". A meerkat clan often contains about 20 meerkats, but some super-families have 50 or more members. In captivity, meerkats have an average life span of 12–14 years, and about half this in the wild."
Although not in the wild in Australia, they adapt to Australian conditions quite comfortably. They are in many zoos and wildlife parks because kids love them, and they are not frightened around humans.

You do know that every picture you see in ANY media is heavily edited, don't you. Cameras are frequently inaccurate recorders.
Of course I do. I just happened to not like the retouching you did on the train. All you see is the glaring reflection from the light above.
Now, the image above is a yellow flower, with the hint of raindrops. Not what we wanted to show, so we edit post production.

A lot of those small South Pacific islands are near perfection. I've never been to any of them, but I know people that have.
The lifestyle is amazing. We spoke to this fellow as he rowed past us, and he told us he was going out to catch his families meal for the evening.
How would you like a food shop like this;

Shot from highway 93.
Yeppers. I have lots of pics from along there. It's STUNNING!
I just looked at those flower pics Oberon on my PC screen. I actually prefer the untouched version a lot more.
I did play with contrast/brightness and vibrancy on my glacier pic and I discovered the ice is actually a blue colour!

That's cos you don't know how to photograph snow.

Have to over expose by around 2 stops.
I took that out of the car window as we drove past it :P
And it shows...THAT'S why images are edited. To bring out the beauty that YOU saw, but the camera didn't interpret.
Case closed.
Yeah I get that but what would YOU do to it?
What colour is the sky in your world?
Mine is untouched blue.

re: RW's glacier pic: Snow and ice will tend to the bluish end of the spectrum unless you correct the White Balance manually by switching off the AWB setting on your camera or by editing for blue RGB Curves in the image-editing software you're using.
Most point-and-shoots now have a "Snow" preset, take a little of the blue edge out of highway-flanking glaciers.
Nice bird pix, Oberon.
i don't know how to do either of those things. :)

That is not quite true.
Camera's tend to underexpose pure whites. You must compensate for this by opening up the shutter by 1 and half stops, or meter from a grey card using manual operation.
The "Snow" preset just overexposes by 1.5 stops.
Its not actually "blue" but "grey".
Thanx for the compliment.
