Title: Name your hobbies
Post by: Zetsu on March 23, 2017, 06:02:09 AM
As the title says, what are your hobbies everyone?

For myself I enjoy a bit of photography, boxing, tai chi, fish & bird keeping, cycling, archery.  Please feel free to share yours or what you like to do often on a daily basis.

I'm into oil painting at the moment and as soon as I can see out of my right eye, I'll be going back to badminton.  In the meantime, I am stuck doing stupid aerobics and dance videos.

Yoga, poetry reading, show tunes/musicals, and ballet.

Just kidding, it is drinking, fighting/beating up guys, lifting weights, long Harley rides, shooting badgers, raising honey bees and free range meat, repairing and rebuilding machinery.

Hobbies....obsessions...and whatever

IDPA and IPSC single stack competition.

Ammunition hand loading...mostly pistol.

16 yard trap, doubles and handicap shooting.

Women's softball.

Anything to do with Renn Faires.

Making 4 in 1 chain maille...that makes you nuts.

Art...sketching, charcoal, pencil and pastels.

Music...any kind, any genre as long as I can listen to it without cringing.

Oh and I just signed up for my motorcycle riders beginner course. I love bikes so I can see that becoming a hobby/problem down the line as well.

I like summer activities like bbq, being on the water, playing softball, and GOLF.

I do not like winter, so  I travel to warm climates(to play golf), I do crossword puzzles, sudoku and post on TBC.

Golf.  I'm terribad at golf.  Last time I played a par three I embarrassed the shit out of myself by hitting my ball into a group of three hot guys.  It wouldn't have been so bad if they hadn't been teeing off at the hole BEHIND us.

DOH!

Quilting, dressmaking (I have tons of classic Dior patterns I'm working on), journaling, scrapbooking, collecting vintage lipstick tubes, cooking and baking, creating my own custom nail polish colours (I'm really good at it, too), and, finally, decorating and re-decorating my home (it never ends).

Going to all day lunches, consuming drugs 24/7, dark deep web ...ie TOR !!,going to strip clubs, poker, horse gambling, casino , illegal casinos, 8 ball and snooker, fucking whores, loaning money, extortion, blackmail, getting tattoos, stock market, hedge funds. I used to drink copious amounts of piss. Almost forgot, I enjoy listening to my wife, she sounds like a cockatoo, taking videos of her and fucking her. No, I didn't. "Being" something is not a hobby. A hobby is "doing" something. With that in mind, you could say that one of your hobbies, Shen, is "supporting marginal social elements through income redistribution." Granted, your hobby may not bring a smile to your face, but I'm glad you engage in it nonetheless, as it brings a smile to mine.

I suppose admitting you are an expensive burden on society is a first step. I guess it doesn't matter either if it's a hobby or a conscious decision to be a social parasite. Only assholes quibble over semantics. What's important is what are you going to do about it. Continue taking or finally start contributing.  My money is on you dying a taker without ever being a maker.

Wow, a lot of this I do as well.

Im a very good marksman, I do like to go target practicing and hunting. Im new with a crossbow, I use to be very good with archery (projectory) but I normally use a rifle.

Im pretty good at drawing as well, pencil drawing mostly. Nowadays I do stuff on the computer for a living but like to do a nice drawing now and then.

Interesting on the chain mail. One, Im a very big Lord of the Rings geek. Two, I made my own Gandalf costume as I can sew too lol. My son was Frodo once with me, and I've even put his costume on for fun lol. Three, I love Halloween. I love dressing up in different things. One year eventually Im gonna be Pinhead from Hellraiser. Last year I was a Native American Warrior, gf was a cowgirl. Year before I was 2 face, gf was Poison Ivy. Jack Sparrow, Freddy Kreuger, etc.

Im big into music too, and feel the same way. Can give anything a listen.

I also like to cook and bake, and Im pretty good at it. My mom made me take Home Economics courses when I was in school. She said "ya never know if you're gonna be single" lol. People love my cooking and tell me I should open my own place all the time.

Goddamn dude

Strip club can be quite nice. When my wife passed away my friend got me to going there to cheer me up. It helped me find my groove again. So cheers to the strippers  ac_drinks

What kind of tats ya got?

And to add to things I like to do. I also like to go camping, hiking, backpacking, 4 wheeling with my Jeep and top and doors off. If Im in I like to watch movies and post on forums. Use to like to play video games, but never enough time anymore to really sit and play for a few hours or more like I use to. I need to work on that lol. I also like to read some times. I recently read all the Lord of the Rings books, including the Hobbit, The Silmarilion, and Unfinished Tales. Currently re-reading Silmarilion cause it was a lil hard read the first round. The movies got me to read them. Steven King is another favorite I like to read. The Dark Tower series was awesome. The Stand, and It were also really good. Im currently making my Jeep a LotR theme while Im fixing it up. I like to take pics being outdoors. I really like to make people laugh, and can do nearly 100 different impersonations. Some one liners, some full on talking like the character lol. I like to stay in shape, and I use to take karate for a long time. Like to go a club now and then. And of course I like to do photochops lol. Think thats it for now lol.

I like the harmonica too. I would bring it with me on road trips, but the other guys in the bunk house would complain when I played. They could hear me playing it through the thin walls.

I'm not quite a geek, Blaze, but I'm an avid reader. Based on what you seem to enjoy, here are a few recommendations (let me adjust my librarian's glasses here for a moment)...

Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn trilogy

- The Otherland (//https) tetralogy

The Wheel of Time series (14 volumes in total)

Prince of Nothing trilogy

And, finally, if you liked King's The Stand and It, you might enjoy Robert R. McCammon's Swan Song (//http) and Stinger (//http). In fact, most of McCammon's books stand the test of time; they bear up well and are worth a re-read or three. The Alabama native has talent.

Any of the series I listed would be well worth your time, Blaze, but if you nerd out on High Fantasy, you absolutely must check out Jordan's The Wheel of Time opus.

I'm really more of a science fiction and horror fan, so I'm very picky about my sword 'n' sorcery stuff (the LOTR, which I read every five years or so, remains the yardstick by which I judge High Fantasy).

Read away!

I have to second the recommendation of William's "Memory, Sorrow and Thorn". Excellent trilogy up until the very end where it leaves you kinda flat.

I've also read Tad William's "Tail Chasers Song". It's a cat's version of Watership Down. It's not bad as a stand alone novel.

Another one I can recommend is Stephen R. Donaldson's "The Thomas Covenant Chronicles". It's different and it's stands out from the hundreds of cheesy Tolkien rip offs that have been written in the past 50 years.

Absolutely. Good catch, that one.

I enjoy fiction set in split timelines, like the Covenant Chronicles and Williams' Otherland series (a near-perfect blend of science fiction and fantasy).

I haven't read Tailchaser's Song yet, but it's on my Glo, along with Watership Down (which, to my shame, I also have not yet read).
