Last week, my grandson's school were holding their Xmas carol evening.



As the parents and grandparents filed into the hall, there was a pianist in one corner, playing lovely melodies before the performance began. His playing was beautiful and so precise, and he played effortlessly.



My daughter in law leaned over and told me that the pianist was in the same class as my grandson.



He is 7.



He was so young, that when he finished one of his pieces, the audience applauded him, he looked up wondering what the applause was for and then resumed playing, oblivious to the awestruck crowd.



He was also Chinese.



And partially deaf.

Sounds like the boy has a big road of potential paved right before him.  Kinda reminds me of those ancient tales, especially in eastern Asia those that struggle with a severe terminal illness or disability but with a strong passion to learn, work hard and succeed are guaranteed to break through great limits.

The musician is English, and quite popular there.  I've only just become aware of him, although he is apparently well known in the US as well.  I only selected this particular tune because it was Independence Day in the US.

Good choice. Absolutely one of my fave bands. Love listening to Shaye Cohn. First time I have seen that many clarinets at one sitting. Wish Erika was singing on this one. Course it looks cold she could have taken her drum inside to warm up.

I'm more about Eddie Vedder, some of his recent solo projects are awesome. He surfs a half hour away from me when he visits his home in Australia. I would pay a lot to listen to a semi-private gig. The last time I had that was with Rodriguez in 2011. We all sat down enjoying an evening meal, whilst Rodriguez strummed away to a total audience of only 300. I got up a few times and bought him a red wine while he sung. Our table has less than 5metres away.

That moment is irreplaceable.

What do you think @Fashionista ? I have been listening to Rodriguez since I was a kid in the 70's.  

Every student had his album(s) right through to college. He struck a chord with most South Africans during the Apartheid Era. He was from Detroit, Michigan in the States, but had the biggest following from South Africa and Australia. A really good documentary on him is called Searching For Sugar Man. I must-see doco for all music enthusiasts:
