Because his first response was to praise his staff, then justify their conduct before finally admitting it was a disgraceful occurrence.
Seems to me the culture HE manages and creates is behind this absurdity.

I read this about him.
In 2003, Dao was charged with 98 counts of illegally prescribing and trafficking prescription painkillers such as hydrocodone, Oxycontin and Percocet. You can read the criminal complaint above, along with other documents related to the case and Dao's medical license.
He was a co-defendant in the case along with Brian D. Case, who was indicted on 33 felony drug charges.
Dao was caught on surveillance video meeting patients and supplying them with painkillers, mainly hydrocodone.
According to a criminal complaint on at least one occasion, Dao received $174 in exchange for the pills in an unlabeled bottle. From 2001-2003, Dao "unlawfully prescribed controlled substances" to patients, court documents said.
The criminal complaint in the case went onto say that Dao would solicit homosexual relations with a male patient in exchange for a prescription for hydrocodone. The meetings occurred at motels and it was found that Dao had written out personal checks to the patient on more than one occasion.
The patient was arrested at a Walgreens Pharmacy and brought in for an interview, where he confessed about his and Dao's relationship. The man was brought into police custody because he was calling the pharmacy to order prescriptions and saying that he was in fact Dao, picking up prescriptions under numerous aliases.
Dao was eventually arrested by police at a hotel room in Jefferson County on July 25, 2003. The room was under surveillance by the Louisville Police Department and Dao was seen with the male patient without a shirt on and with his pants undone. The patient gave Dao money for a bottle of pills and police stormed the room to arrest him upon the exchange.
Dao was officially charged with unlawful prescribing, trafficking in a controlled substance and complicity in obtaining drugs by fraud and deceit and pled not guilty to the charges.
Some of those charges ended up being dismissed, but Dao was eventually convicted on six counts. He was found guilty of complicity in obtaining a controlled substance (hydrocodone) by fraud and sentenced to two years, eight months in prison, a sentence that was suspended, and was ordered to pay a $5,000 fine.
In addition to those convictions, Dao was indicted in Nelson County with eight felony counts of obtaining controlled substances by fraud and deceit and eight more of complicity to obtain controlled substances by fraud and deceit. Those charges were all dismissed in April 2005.
The main informant in the case — who wasn't identified in the complaint — first met Dao in September 2000 as a patient. He had been having chest pains and was referred to Dao by another doctor.
Three months after the two met, Dao asked the male patient to be an office manager at his medical practice in Kentucky. He worked there for about six weeks, but eventually resigned because of sexual advances and harassment from Dao, a complaint said.
In the past decade, Dao has career earnings of $234,664, according to the World Series of Poker's website. He most recently played in the Horeshoe Tunica WSOP Circuit event in Mississippi on January 23, finishing 11th to win $1,191. His biggest win came in 2009 at the Harrah's Tunica Circuit Championship event in Mississippi, where he won $117,744 by finishing in second place.

You won't get fondled. You walk thru a full body scanner and some poor slob behind a monitor gets to see you naked.....it's humiliation overload.
The only solace I get from the whole ordeal is the satisfaction that I ruined the day, possibly the week, for the clown watching the monitor..... :laugh3:

Even though the decision to take a passenger off a plane was a bad one, especially by force, I could never have reacted like Mr Dao did..
I would have been so embarrassed.
He did the right thing.
Even though he was hurt, had he acquiesced, this incident would never have brought the bullying, apathetic attitude of airlines to their customers to light.
Passengers are now treated worse than cattle. The ignominy of body searches, x-ray monitoring, and constant delays are bad enough, but to be forcibly removed after giving them your money is a crime that demands a brutal response.
Let all airlines be on notice; United's actions will precipitate a review of paying passengers' rights, and airlines will impinge on them at their peril.

That's for sure.
I used to fly Continental Airlines all the time before they merged with United. Continental used to provide a decent travel experience. Their planes were always clean, the staff friendly and accommodating, the upgrades were great. I flew United once after the merger and their was a noticeable drop in customer service and their fairs were not nearly as competitive as they were when it was Continental.
Since then I will usual opt for another carrier like Delta or if I want cheap....US Air or a regional carrier.
This latest insanity will insure that United never gets my business again. I don't fly nearly as often as I used to (maybe once a year) but if enough people cop the same attitude, United will be paying for this unacceptable conduct long after the lawsuits are settled.

I am a supporter of PAL or Philippine Airlines. They are always number one to me. Other than PAL, with my flights over the oceans, I have enjoyed Lufthansa, Northwest, Cathay Pacific, Singapore Air, Air Malaysia, Air France, British Airways. You always remember the good and shabby services. However, nothing compares to the excellent service in first class, and the food and beverage selections of course.

For the money it cost per MINUTE you spend there, it needs to be good.
RW, I don't recall that I sat on the upper deck but one can. In most flights, the upper deck is business class unless it is a lounge with a bar. It has been many years since I have been in an upper deck of an aircraft. They may have changed how it is outfitted now. I see images of awesome newer flight seating arrangements that I have not even seen with my own eyes.
I've never been in one that had this, for example. On very long flights, I would stretch my legs and go exploring but I have yet to see this.

I've flown First Class.
The bed was lovely. But the FEB was superb!!

Can anyone go to the upper deck if it has a bar?

I've never been in one that had this, for example. On very long flights, I would stretch my legs and go exploring but I have yet to see this.

That is the friendly skies.

I don't see why not but I am not an authority on that matter so I really do not know. I would not be looking for a bar on a flight anyway so I'm not a good person to ask. Sorry.

I enjoyed the souvenirs. I used to collect them and give it to guests (visiting relatives) staying in my guest room. I had fun doing that. It was like pretending to have my own bed and breakfast.

I ended up with a pair of "First Class" pyjamas, a pen, a toiletry set and a good nights sleep.

I will remember that if I ever fly in first class..
Since that I will never happen, I will forget.
We never get those free upgrades to first class. :sneaky2:
Odd thing is, you arrive at the same time as the knobs that forked out 5 times the fare you did.
