We have a new baby goshawk in the bushland behind us...just appeared in the last few days.



Cute little guy. Still got his fluffy feathers.

I stand corrected. I've not been able to get a shot of the bird stationary, only the larger adults in flight and from a distance.



In flight it is very similar to the goshawk...but the eagle eyed (pun intended) amongst you are correct. It is a nankeen kestrel.Well done, you bird spotters!!!



However, I think the cockatoos are safe. They are very much larger.

I Googled it and there are a lot  of different species of goshawk. Which species is this one?

I made an error, as my colleagues above were quick to point out.



On further examination, I've correctly identified the bird as a nankeen kestrel.

We have lots of them in Calgary too, but if you drive ten minutes outside the city, there are beautiful hawks.
