Title: This is a Dayton Wheel.
Post by: Angry White Male on May 20, 2017, 12:17:58 AM
This is a Dayton wheel on one of my steer tires.

Some people don't know that when these things are installed, run-out must be checked.  Half the time tire shops do not do this properly.  Either they are too lazy, or they don't know or care.

Ace gets tired with shops not doing the job properly when I pay them good money.  So Ace bought a huge swivel socket bar, a 1 1/4" socket, and adjusts the run-out himself, when he could be drinking beer instead.

NOW the tire runs without wobble.  1/8" allowable run-out?  Ace runs 0 run-out.  Ace doesn't really like doing hard work, but sadly much of my work is far superior than that of the so-called "pro's," and it must be done.

I run old school...  BEHOLD!  The dreaded Dayton.  A pain in the ass, but as tough as they come...

Just like the business tax thread, I'm awaiting the regulars here to argue and prove me wrong...

They seem to like doing so, so a good Dayton wheel thread should give them another opportunity to show me their superior knowledge of all things, and how I'm doing it wrong.

It's a pain-in-the-ass wheel design that is no longer really used on commercial vehicles, except for a few special applications, but they are tough as hell.
