Herm's resume
I would post highlights of my resume, but like most of my posts, it would likely bore readers to sleep.
To sum it up, I have only worked in one industry since graduating from university. And it has not taken me to the furthest corners of the globe.
I'm not posting my CV because this is a forum, not LinkedIn FFS.

What's the diff between this and 22 questions? Lighten up, it's just for fun. And nobody said you can't embellish either.
You have a good point.
I'm still not posting mine though.

These are actually my favourite kind of threads..
I can understand anyone's reluctance to reveal too much, but you can share very little and still make it fun to read..
Some of you have had varied work histories.

What am I supposed to post? I have been in the same industry for going on twenty eight years? What a yawnfest. I have moved up from a brakemen to a locomotive engineer in that time, but I am still switching cars and hauling freight.

Um no. Before contractors are hired, bids are submitted for approval. The people paying the bills decide if your equipment works or not.

You don't have any credentials worth posting; unless having an MBA in "drinking and driving" has some special meaning in the professional dirt movers world.... :nea:

This category is what I need to work on.
I make pretty pictures.
Yup, thats it lol.
Seriously, my mom kicked me out of the house in the middle of my final high school year. Thats a whole nother story. So I do not have a diploma. I didnt go to college either. I come from a poor family, mom being on disability, no real father figure. I started working summers when I was 14, one summer doing auto detailing, second summer building picnic tables. Started working full time at 16, first job was Long John Silvers. I worked various jobs for a few years, roofing, fire and water damage restoration, HVAC cleaning, waiter, phone order operator, tree groundsman, car detailing, parts puller, parts delivery, and some others Im sure, then I delivered pizzas for 10 years and drove a cab for a year. Met a couple that knew I was smart, and took me on at their advertising and marketing agency. I worked there for 4 years as a Webmaster and Graphic Designer. Our clients were in housing, and when the bubble blew, so did my job. This was a bad time to find a job, none could be found. During the 8 months I was laid off, I took on some side jobs working from home doing graphic design for my friend. I finally found a job 50 miles from home at a print shop. Been here for nearly 8 years. Im the Graphic Designer, Pre-press man, and Digital Press Operator. Dont think this place is gonna last much longer. I havent had a raise the whole time I've been here, and debating delivering pizzas again on the side to make ends meet.
Y'all's sounds impressive lol.
Oh, and I learned karate for 8 years, and taught the class at the end when my Sensei moved. It was a combination of Akido, Jujitsu, and karate. I was also the high school representative for my church I went to. Also was a junior police cadet for a short time, and taught the officers karate. I won some art awards in school, AB honor roll, Math awards, and Spelling bee lol. Im also a pretty good cook lol.

Not quite! They are sailing away to the undying lands, for Valinor, and cast away the weariness of the mortal world. Its somewhat a heaven, but not when you die. The realm of death is governed in the Halls of Mandos. Its true, once you leave Middle Earth, and make your way to Valinor, you are not permitted to leave, it is forbidden.
I would prolly pass too for now, too many possible adventures here lol. And that place sounds boring ac_drinks

I honestly feel like its either any time, or maybe by the end of the year. The owner is around 80, he wants to shut the place down. My boss is in his 50's, he wants to keep it going. Use to be 50 employees, now its 5. While I was in Seattle, my boss got his hand jammed in the press rollers, it broke a couple fingers and peeled his skin off like a glove. Hes mending though. Also the folder operator, hes in his 60s, diabetic, wound up having a seizure in his eye that week too, blind in that eye. Hes been having surgeries, but no one has heard from him at all this week. I know hes been wanting out, thinking hes trying to go out on disability. Now Im the only non family member left here. I know they secured a 2 year contract with one company, which is up at the end of the year. Also they sold the property here a few years ago, and the new owners agreed to lease the place to us for 5 years, which is also up at the end of the year. This is also our slow season for a couple months. If it dont hold out, the owner may just close the place up and pay off the lease and sub out the one contract.
There is an old hand crank press out in the lobby, just like the one my Great grandfather use to use. He use to be a pressman, and had his own press in the basement of his home when I lived with them. Was cool to watch, this was when he had to melt lead to be formed into type, when type had to be set in a frame that ink went over n transferred to the paper.

It does sound like you will be unemployed by the end of the year..
Do you own or rent where you live?
The reason I ask is that is I was wondering how easy it is for you to move..
It's nearly impossible for me.

Both lol. I own my home, but pay lot rent. Im trying to get my son to get a better job, cause if I decide to move to Seattle or something and if he dont want to come, then I'll let him take the place over. I've fixed the place up nicely, but I worry he'll just let the place go to hell. I wouldnt have much trouble selling the place, but then my son would be fucked if he decided to stay. So in a way Im stuck for now, but hopefully in the near future I can either move, or find something else around here job wise. Jobs in this area really took a dive 8 years ago, big time.
At least if you decide to go to Seattle, you have a place to stay. The West coast of this continent is out of reach to move to for a lot of people if you don't have family or friends to stay with once you get there.

Only twice lol. The first round was a hard read, so many names, places and events. Not only that, but names changed or had Elvish versions, etc. Second time was much easier to read lol. I read it twice as well....first time I was 15. I had just read LOTR and I was deeply dissapointed in The Silmarillian. As you say, it's a difficult read. The second time I was in college and I took 180 degree turn on my feeling for it. I actually enjoyed it immensely.
I'm a huge fan of Tolkien as well but not as much as I used to be....I think the movies kind of killed it for me. Don't get me wrong....LOTR was a very ambitious attempt at bringing the books to life and Jackson hit the mark in so many ways (The Hobbit not so much) but it brought a kind of commercialism to the the story that is sort of off-putting to me. Suddenly everyone is a LOTR fan and most of these fans had never even cracked the binding of any of the books.
I heard that The Silmarillian was in the works....that's where movie making will separate the men from the boys. I'm not sure 3 movies are nearly enough to cover it though.

Have you read The Children of Húrin?
I haven't gotten around to it yet.
I've contemplated it. They are covered in the Silmarilion and even more in Unfinished Tales. After I read all that I decided it was break time lol.

Totally agree on second time of Sil! It was grueling the first time lol.
I also agree that they did an excellent job on LotR vs Hobbit, too much CGI characters, I liked the use of real people as Orcs and such. I'll also admit I had only seen the cartoon movies from the 70s, and not read the books early on. I seen the movies first. I was hooked when I seen the Fellowship of the Ring. I saw part 2 twice at the theater and 3 times at part 3 lol. I clapped at the end of part 3 and got everyone in the theater clapping lol. I almost dressed in my Gandalf costume and went to part 3. I made my own Gandalf costume lol. I had my son be Frodo around that time and I took him trick or treating, I loved that. A few years ago after losing a lil weight and drinking with my brother, we decided to break out my costume box and try stuff on. I got the notion that I could fit into my son's Frodo costume lol, he was 5 back then when he wore it lol. I got it all on but the pants, couldnt get them over my cheeks lol. Later around Halloween I improvised, put on a white shirt under the top to cover my belly, and shorts. Went to the club like that lol. I finally read all the books last year. I had went through a phase where I didnt read for a while, so it was nice to start reading those. Was a great adventure lol. Didnt want them to end.
