Awful - Does not look good for people high up in it, but there are no reports to date on people

No doubt

a lot of wood in them?

"The tower is at least 24 storeys high and contains 120 apartments."

I feel nauseous

Here wood framed apartments are all of the low rise types.  My condo is a new build, and it is wood frame, but nonetheless only four storeys high, with sprinklers inside and out...  There are sprinklers everywhere.

Anything that I've seen around here over a few storeys are all concrete.

We are well reinforced concrete all the way

Apparently a feller fell asleep in one unit here a few years ago, burned his unit and himself completely  ... with virtually no effect on other units

Anyhow, Back to OP horror ...  I seem to survive my own tragedies reasonably well .... but damn,  I don't handle other's horror well

I was about to purchase a concrete unit in Ocean Park for a hell of a deal, but the realtor steered me clear.  It was an older build that apparently needed MAJOR work...

The 1960's era tower block public housing programme was a social catastrophe.

Aside from the stress and pressure created by stacking hundreds of low-income families into a single building, creating a ghetto, the buildings were poorly designed, shabbily built, and widely regarded as death traps for the reason demonstrated in the OP.

Only a few of the hundreds built remain...and I predict that they too will be demolished after this incident.

Horrible, imagine being trapped on a high floor knowing that you have 2 choices, death by fire or from jumping.

I also very much doubt it will be another muslim attack like some people are predicting because the area has a very high muslim percentage and many of the dead will most likely be muslims....

Thats pretty bad..

I would probably go on the roof and call the airforce..

The fire-alarm should give these people plenty of time to evacuate.. The problem is that they dont take it seriously.. And now they die.

You do know that Muslims kill muslims all the time, right?

Who do you think dies when a car bomb goes off in places like Bagdad or Cairo, or any other predominantly Muslim country or city?

People in the middle east live with that kind of shit as a constant. Believe it or not they are the ones doing the bulk of the dying.

BTW, that avie is kind of unflattering and I'm not talking about the implied ideological leanings. Thats just shock value troll bullshit....You have soft, somewhat female looking hands....the bad ink just calls attention to it.

In my province, Alberta, any apartment building more than four floors must be made of concrete. This is for fire protection reasons. I assume that building in London was made of concrete?

Yes but the countries you have described are muslim countries, whereas the UK is mostly white,so why on earth would they target an area occupied by their own when there are plenty of white infidels to target?

The recent attack on London Bridge, Nice France, the Bataclan concert hall and the Brussels bombings all seemed pretty indiscriminate to me. In all cases everyone in the crowd was targeted without knowing their religious faith or ethnic background.

All I'm saying is that terrorism knows know boundaries. The ideology is everything and anyone who disagrees is the enemy.

Besides I thought the UK was mostly Muslim by now....If not, I guess the jews aren't working hard enough..... :laugh3:

Renee is probably right, the perps did not conduct a survey of the occupants beforehand. And I believe in Islam, the only thing worse than being an infidel is being not Islamic enough.

QuoteTheresa May Avoids Survivors of Grenfell Tower Fire During Visit to Scene of Disaster

As families of those still missing appealed for help in finding their loved ones, Prime Minister Theresa May visited the scene of a deadly fire at Grenfell Tower in Kensington, West London on Thursday, but declined to meet survivors.

May, whose new chief of staff has been accused of failing to implement the recommendations of a fire safety review that might have prevented the tragedy, also refused to permit journalists to accompany her during a briefing by firefighters.

That shielded her from uncomfortable questions — about her own role in "radical reforms" that saved money but cut the number of firefighters by 10,000 nationwide — and made for a striking contrast with a visit by Jeremy Corbyn, the leader of the opposition Labour Party, who spent an emotional half hour with residents and relatives of the victims.

At one stage, Corbyn hugged a distraught woman who handed him a poster of Jessica Urbano, a missing 12-year-old girl, last heard from in a phone call to her mother from the 20th floor of the tower early Wednesday morning.

Corbyn also promised residents that he would make sure those responsible for failing to prevent the fire were held accountable. Although the confirmed death toll reached 17 on Thursday, many more residents are missing and the structure is not yet safe enough for recovery teams to search it completely.

The Labour leader was accompanied by Emma Dent Coad, who was narrowly elected to Parliament last week to represent Kensington, the country's richest constituency. Dent Coad told The Guardian on Thursday that "this fire was entirely preventable," if only the Conservative-led local council had listened to the repeated warnings of fire safety lapses put in writing by residents.

It's in the East, so less likely to be deliberate, although police have charged someone

Say, looking at the map, is that near QuingDao (forget exact spelling but its on East coast) where mate spent 8 days doing business?

Well, turned out he found out the 1st day that it was all "monkey business" they wanted, lol .. so the return trip could not come soon enough  .. long, strange, "educational"  some of it quite funny, and some quite a scary tale before he got back to Beijing and  headed home. Much of it he thought it best not to tell me on the phone as I would worry .. saved the good parts till he got home

Could write a long tale on all that happened during that 8 days

Why is it less likely to be deliberate in the East? East Asia has arsonists too. People wanting an insurance payout, eliminate the competition or just plain old madmen.

And it's apparently close to  Shanghai.

The other thing about China is it could be safety violations and the authorities are just saying it was criminal so the public won't  be pissed with the government.

The outside cladding is 2 layers of laminated thin aluminimun and the glue is highly inflammable. This is attached to battens creating a 30mm flue tunnel. The battans attach to shody insulation which is attached to the original concrete walls.

For single storey dwellings not high rise.

My building has Hardie Plank siding...  Supposedly won't burn, and sort of imitates wood siding in looks.
