Just a few scans of a few 4X6 pics I'd taken while parked in the Mojave Desert a few years back. This place was a little ways off a main highway, and wasn't visible from highway.

Not sure if some dude is buried under there... Didn't want to lift rocks to find out.

An old International wrecker...

Old GMC. Notice the California black plate. These were issued up until 1969. A few of these vehicles still had their plates on, and they were all black plates...

Old International. Not much rusts in the desert! Also notice not a huge amount of vandalism... most of the glass is still intact.

Then I had to get the hell outta there. This was in the middle of summer, and this white boy cannot handle the desert heat.
I would have thought those old classics could be restored. I've seen worse abandoned wrecks come back to life.
Great pics!!! Well done.
I used the shitty disposable camera that we kept in cab for taking pics of accidents, should we have one.
I think the desert is littered with little sites like these... Not being visible from the main road, very few people would have any need or desire to travel down dirt side roads in the desert.
The vast majority of traffic through the desert is simply people from LA trying to get to Vegas and back as quick as they can.
I'm considering a road trip, maybe this fall (far too fucking hot in the Summer), down to in and around Death Valley/Mojave...
I'd like to give myself enough time to really explore around the place... something I never really had when I trucked through there.
This time around I'd actually take a proper camera.
Go for it. Take lots of pics.
But stay out of it in summer if you don't like heat...it will burn you to a crisp if you don't take sensible precautions like full cover clothing and LOTS of water.
Couldn't resist...its a good shot, but I could see a great B&W there as well. No disrespect to the original...

Sepia is better IMHO.
I agree.
Hope Mel likes it.
Pics look good!
And I know just how hot things can get there... I trucked through there enough times in Summer.
That Kenworth you see was fairly new at that time, and only in that desert would temps reach their limit... Engine coolant, axles, transmission (temp gauges for all of these components)...
There is a reason that Kenworth still produces trucks with large hoods/grills... And this is simply to increase radiator area... Probably why many Australian road-train trucks haven't went the sloped hood hood/aerodynamic route.
I have some other pics of this site, but they are much of the same...
It looked to me like the guy was living "off the grid" in an old school bus. No power, no running water, nothing.
Yet must have run a wrecker/towing service out of there at one time.
It had been abandoned for many years. He may be buried under those rocks, for all we know.
In the desert, things are different, and people are different.
I liked the desert South West of the USA..
I would like to see the Australian desert too.
When walking thru the dessert, wear just speedos and make sure to lather on the baby oil. Bring a bottle of tequila to stay hydrated.

Its in America, drongo.
And at least I HAD a car to take girls out in. I didn't have to ask the girl if she lived on a handy bus route before inviting her to the Regent in Rundle Street.

No. It was in the city.

Gordy rides Transperth?
No. Gordy mostly rides in a paddy wagon.
Ozone fish café Port Adelaide good bail food.
Mate I had a HD and took birds to Windy Point before the restaurant was there.
And Panorama drive in...ah they were the days hamburgers and free sex.
Yummy......;)
Ozone is gone, I think.
You can still park at Windy Point, but your HD wouldn't make it. Probably a 149.
Panorama is all housing now. Only 2 drive-ins remain...Marion and Gepps X. Gilles Plains, Taperoo, Hectorville, West Beach, St Agnes, Elizabeth...all gone...
Drive in food!!!
