Yo Gordy,

I'm no stranger to the West Coast.  My wife is from Mullaloo, so we get over that way from time to time.  We tend to holiday down in Denmark, and we're thinking of buying a retirement place down there while WA real estate prices are down in the sewer.

You wouldn't be Breakfall from Third Rail, would you?

We can argue back and forth what the best way to redistribute wealth. But, first the wealth has to be produced. The freer the economy the better the  chances of growth. Sweden and Singapore are examples of that.

It varies.  I'm semi-retired, so whilst the hourly rate can be good, it's not full time, and if the client is struggling I'm generally quite lenient.  I don't maintain a commercial office or advertise for work.  It's all referral stuff.

Then oh shit the account has been drained quicker than a goon on welfare day in Redfern.

I became qualified in the early 80's, a few years after the bottom of the harbour stuff.  It was a transitional phase, because throughout the 70's the High Court had passed down so many questionable verdicts under Chief Justice Barwick that paying tax had to some extent become voluntary.  The 1980's required a different mindset.  That's not to say that all the skullduggery had ceased by then.  Far from it.

I used to do a lot of tax work, and that was one of the reasons I largely retired.  I just got fed up up with every other client wanting to rip the system.  These days I prefer to help hard working people make money, or find out where there hard-won earnings have gone.

I have no problems with using any available provision in the Tax Act to legally minimize tax.  I had issues when clients wanted to go the extra yard and lodge stuff which was patently false.

What's more, the clients that do that are also the clients that are the first to point the finger at their advisor and say "he told me to do it" when they get audited.

I comes down to honesty and character.  By its very nature, tax evasion happens behind closed doors, pocketing money that ought to be declared, claiming deductions for expenses that aren't business related, or don't exist at all, because it's so easy to do.  I like the quote by US basketball coach John Wooden  - "The true test of a man's character is what he does when no one is watching ".

Wrong, it's what barbaric, islamofascists do. I see you don't read the news much unless it's of the prog editorial variety. Here's a list of Islam's greatest hits, if you'll pardon the pun. I'm sure all of them combined got less press coverage from American progressives than the single act in Charlottesville that if anything was self defense as antifa instigated the violence as they always do.

Nice bit of deflection there.  Even I don't believe that all 60 million Trump voters were Nazis.  Do you?

The guy that drove the car into the Charlottesville crowd was a Nazi.  Express Nazi views, and you have to accept what comes your way.  If (and that's a big if) he was hit with a bit of shit and piss, he got of lightly.  And if he was hit, (which is doubtful), are you really suggesting that justifies his subsequent actions?

There was no schooling that I'm aware of. I was specifically talking about Federal income tax rates, I think he as talking about aggregate collections relative to GDP.  I don't profess to have any great intimacy with the various US or Canadian tax codes.

Your professed Ukrainian background may explain both your limited comprehension of written English, and your inadequate communication skills.  However, on balance, I am guessing you are simply an idiot.

I don't like SB, but he was right about the effective income tax not being higher back then. Tax rates in the US are actually fairer since so many loopholes were closed.

Of course it's a question of double standards. Antifa goons iniated the violence not "nazis". The alt left are violent, anti-democratic scum who instigate violence against anyone who disagrees with them. You would not have heard of Charlottesville if not for those Soros funded punks. But, not

A word about how wrong they are. Islamists....silence.

First, thanks for not answering the question.  You can't bring yourself to say that Nazis are wrong. That says a lot about you.

Second, I agree that the counter-demonstrators who arrived ready for violence and proceeded to initiate it were wrong and should have been arrested.  I have no idea what proportion they comprised of the counter-demonstrators, but the available videos would suggest they were a small minority.

Third, the media, left right and centre, was all over the Charlottesville rally in the days before it happened.  You would have to have been living under a rock not to have heard about it.

Fourth, lol'd at the gratuitous Soros reference.  No alt-right post would be complete without one.

Fifth, I'd doubt that the "punks" needed funding from anybody to turn up.

Sixth, Islamists?  WTF did Muslems have to do with Charlottesville?

Seventh, you do know what side of the fence you find "brown shirts" on don't you?  Here's a little hint:

(//%3C/s%3E%3CIMGUR%20id=%22cnTjWsD%22%3E%3CURL%20url=%22http://i.imgur.com/cnTjWsD.jpg%22%3Ehttp://i.imgur.com/cnTjWsD.jpg%3C/URL%3E%3C/IMGUR%3E%3Ce%3E)

Eighth, strangely enough, I find myself agreeing with you in respect of "jihadis", by whom, I assume, you mean Muslim terrorists.  Again, nothing to do with Charlottesville, but they are certainly a problem in their own right.

Ninth, we're not talking about a handful of alt righters here, unless you're saying that all "alt righters" are Nazis.  We're talking about Nazis.  Whilst a typical alt-right racist generally a harmless, albeit offensive simpleton, Nazis are on a different level altogether.  They were allowed to take root and grow once, with disastrous consequences, and have no place in any civilized society.

I find it more plausible than some random leftie Christian stumbled upon this place after joining Third Rail where he found the one thread from 2016 about this place and decided to come on over then left because he picked up a work assignment on a Saturday evening.

That can't be sox, unless he's really really trying to hide it.

He's no lefty, and he likes to use a wide vocabulary.

I had thought of that. I was a tad confused this past year.

I have wondered from Harry's first post.

Soxx was always very islam-aware as I recall, but used to otherwise post quite left on most things - IF my recollect is correct

If recollect is correct, I guess we have always been trolled and have no idea whatsoever of how he feels on anything other than islam

Based on that hypothesis, on his obvious overall knowledge in many areas, and posting skills Harry would fit purrrfectly!!

Harry fits for a lot of reasons.  There are a lot of subtle references that many of you wouldn't pick up on that I see.  Then again, I'm still feeling pretty raw and it could all just be a coincidence/me reading into things.

I think you are pretty bang on with your assessment.  He isn't really far left or right.  Like most of us, he just takes a position on an issue and rolls with it.

We went up to the top of the "Willis" Tower (aka Sears Tower) then hit Giordano's for pizza.  I really wanted to go to the Pier but it closed at like 10 or something so we were too late.

You know where I want to go?  Up into the torch of the Statue of Liberty.

You know that the public used to be able to climb up there, like 100 years ago?

Then people became fat and feeble, and probably someone fell down the narrow ladder and passageway, so it has been closed to the public ever since.

It should be opened to physically fit people like me, and the fatties and gimps will just have to be turned away.  Discrimination?  It sure is!  But some people just cannot do what other people can, and sadly are not "equal" in all regards.

What do you mean by interval training?

I don't see how an Asian can get too skinny.

They're supposed to be skinny.

Best BMI for an Asian woman is 16 or 17.

Caucasian women are "officially" supposed to around 20-25, but 18 is the limit in my book.

I had a row with my wife a while ago and she asked me the old question "Well, why did you marry me"?.

I put aside all the usual pretenses and truthfully told her "Because you had a BMI of 17".

She didn't talk to me for a while after that.

I flat out told her she's getting chubby.  She didn't really say anything, but I don't really like it, and I know she doesn't either.

However, she fucking eats too much.  CONSTANT fucking snacking, so no wonder she's getting fat.

My husband would never in a million years even hint if I was chubby.  If I ask him if I look fat in something, he asks me if I think he looks stupid enough to answer that.

I've always been a fan of Asian immigration, largely because the chicks are so hot.  I put a lot of that down to the Asian diet that they brought over with them.

Now, of course, we have a lot of Australia-born ethnic Asians.  Unfortunately, but unsurprisingly, when they grow up on a western diet they get just as fat as the Anglo chicks.

Very, very, disturbing stuff.

What do you mean by interval training?

Interval training is a series of different calisthenics in a certain order to target parts of the body in a way so that you get a more concise workout. For example, I might start out with jumping jacks for an all over body warm up, then do squats to work the legs and core, then modified sit ups to target the core, then something to work my upper body with dumbbells like overhead presses.

Tabata is another form of interval training I've tried, but it can be very strenuous. Also, crossfit is a good workout, but some of it can be bad for joints.

What did you get to see while you were here?

We went up to the top of the "Willis" Tower (aka Sears Tower) then hit Giordano's for pizza.  I really wanted to go to the Pier but it closed at like 10 or something so we were too late.

I am itching to go back though.  I thought it was a beautiful city.

Most Chicagoans refuse to call it the Willis tower just out of tradition. I think Navy pier is overrated. Water Tower Place is a lot more fun. Giordano's isn't bad for stuffed pizza. It'll stick to your ribs, but it's not exactly diet food.

Honestly if ya go to the mall around here, its close to the same. Benny's is a spot downtown. A whole pizza at Benny's is $40 I think lol. Gotta make sure the box will fit in your vehicle first lol.

I loved Chicago so much and I only spent a few hours there.

(//%3C/s%3E%3CURL%20url=%22https://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-s/08/d2/16/c3/giordano-s.jpg%22%3E%3CLINK_TEXT%20text=%22https://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media%20...%20dano-s.jpg%22%3Ehttps://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-s/08/d2/16/c3/giordano-s.jpg%3C/LINK_TEXT%3E%3C/URL%3E%3Ce%3E)

What's Water Tower Place?

I didn't make it through a whole slice.  That was insane!

Water Tower Place is a shopping center downtown. They had some medium range to upscale goods for sale.

They have a transparent glass elevator, which is what I remember about it the most.

I've had both. Giordano's is very hit or miss depending on which location you go to, but they do pack on the cheese. Gino's East has good think crust but you have to go to the one downtown for good pizza. Lou's is slightly overrated, but I do like their crust and freshness of their ingredients.

Yeah, a lot of people like going downtown to eat.  I hate it though.  It costs 20 to 30 to park then you have to pay for your meal too.  I suually find something close by.  I like Genos the best but I don't have one near me.  I still occasionaly get giordanos or Lou malnatis.

Since I was 3 I've either lived in chicago or suburbs nearby. I will probably move when my youngest son gets out of high school.  the state is in deep financial doo doo so they are constantly raising and finding new taxes, but never fixing the underlying problem causing the financial drain (government worker pensions).  So its only going to get worse.

I can say, that is actually what you get when you order a pizza there.  I think I made it through one slice (if that).

 At times yes.

the majority of the black people I meet and interact with are not a problem at all, they are no worse than any white person.  But there is always an element that poses problems.  Like Blazor and I were discussing.  A lot of the people I am related to and know personally have had experiences with black criminal behavior.

Wazz, shin, I have to say, I LOVE the ways Chicago folks handle pedestrians that walk when the hand is flashing/solid.  You guys go bonkers and it's people get movin'!  I loved it!

I like Giordanos a lot, nobody piles on the cheese like they do.  Have you ever had Genos East or Lou Malnatis?  IMO they both have the best pizza crust (kind of a cornbread)

Do you live in the Chicago area?

yep, in a nearby suburb.

Did you grow up in greater Chicago Wazzzup?

And with your NDP government running eleven billion dollar deficits, shielding the civil service from sharing the pain and credit down grades your taxes will continue to rise. This doesn't even get touch the train wreck that is Justine's regime. And then you guys have the free spending Nenshi.

I don't know.   I have not seen any news on that, but if your tap water starts tasting funny you may want to switch to bottles for a while just in case.

It's actually called "White Flight," and it's a real term.

When Whites get the fuck out of a Negro infested dump, to find work and a better life, the town goes completely to shit.  Detroit is a prime example of what happens during "White Flight"...

Most of the white flight happened in the 70s and 80s.  Occasionally a neighborhood here and there goes through change, but most have stabilized.

The thing is If you want to get away from non whites you can move to any of several parts of the city, or suburbs.  The article I read attributes people leaving illinois primarily to high taxes and fewer jobs, some of it may be white flight, but probably most is not.

Seems hydrogen sulfide is a bit of a problem...

"Documents obtained through freedom-of-information requests and from whistleblowers — internal correspondence, meeting minutes, presentations and inspection reports — disclose findings of failures in performance by oil and gas companies, including serious infractions, failed safety audits, daily H2S readings beyond provincial air quality standards and a death in 2014."
